Thank you for sharing about the Osage. It’s such a tragedy we’ve lost so much of their wisdom and traditions. I’m glad for everyone (including natives today) keeping them alive. We must re-learn how to live in harmony with nature and how to be more self sufficient. The most important things in life cannot be bought online.
This content is what makes UA-cam worthwhile... My work took me to the Martyrs' Shrine here in Ontario, Canada, and I was able to spend time there learning of the Jesuit missionaries at Ste. Marie Among the Hurons, and of course the tragic outcome experienced by the men who themselves felt fear, knew hunger, suffered loneliness, but somehow forged great friendships among those with whom they sought to leave a legacy of faith. So... to hear Geoff tell the history, by extension, of some of what took place in Ste. Genevieve really helped show the breadth and magnitude of the Jesuit influence. Those men were... I don't like to say "pioneers" but rather, brave explorers who ventured into a dangerous world. I find the architecture of the buildings at that time very relaxing... earthy, and on a human scale we don't see today. Tell your friend he did an excellent job at sharing his knowledge.
I totally appreciated Director Geoff's presentation!!! He's such a great storyteller/history recounter. 😄ETA: After seeing that movie 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' it's very interesting for me to learn more about the Osage people.
Thank you for sharing the delightful M. Geoff with us! He is a natural and engaging storyteller. Who cares if M. Buldoc returns soon...time spent with M. Geoff is better.
Thank you very much,Mr Geoff for your instructions on making moccasins. Your information about the Osage and the people of your area was most interesting. May the Lord bless and keep you.
People like Geoff are keeping history alive…what a blessing it is to hear this story. People of today could really learn a thing or two from the past experiences of the people who lived back in the day ❤ Thanks so much for sharing this! Loved hearing the bell ringing in the background 😊 Your town is truly amazing! God Bless, till next time 👋😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’m learning so much from this video. Plus is wonderful how he’s just talking to us. Lots of us are isolated and I love the conversations on this channel. It brings people together. Edit: Can anyone tell me why he doesn’t use contractions? It must be historical.
Thank you,Mr. Geoff for the telling the story of the English, French, and Spanish communities and their traditions that came to St. Genevieve. That stew part was funny. I thought those wooden shoes were a tradition of the Swedish and Dutch, but thanks to your story I learnt those shoes were used by the French, too.
I love the passion that Mr. Geoff has for history of your lovely town. Videos like this, really make me wish I could move to Ste. Genevieve!❤ I hope you do move videos like this!
This channel always delivers great educational content. It’s so much easier for me to absorb history coming from such a friendly & informal atmosphere 💞.
Oh my I loved this! If history in high school had included bits like this, that made history interesting, I might remember more of what I ‘learned’ then!
How interesting, I love listening to stories of the past, my hubby really liked what the natives called the firearms, and the story about the fish stew, it made me laugh. Thank you for sharing Geoff
I love Geoff he is a delight with such wonderful knowledge I could listen to him for hours about his wonderful stories. Thank you for this awesome video.
I really loved the video. I try and portray a French Canadian from the Upcoutry. Ouisconsing (Wi.) in particular. The only comment I have is that that lock really needs some work. I lived in NE France as a kid. Sabots were still being sold in the markets in the "60's. The way the farmers and other outdoors people wore them was to wear a heavy wool sock or an insulated booty. They kept them on by nailing a leather strap over the arch of the foot. I do the same and it really works..
The sabots are really interesting. When there were uprisings in France, the people would throw sabots at the hated individuals! OW! OW! OW! Great video, and I would love to see more of these. The fish stew story is just hilarious! The French king's greeting!! LOL.
Enjoyed this VERY VERY much!! As an aside, the catfish stew is the same as my father used to make, substitute potatoes for squash. The anecdote is priceless! Always like to learn these things. I am 70, and still have a need for knowledge.
Oh!!!! I really....really....really..........enjoyed this part of your videos. I enjoy Mr. Geoff! He truly is very knowledgeable of French history around that area and when I can get around again....I plan on traveling to that specific area. 😊 please make more videos with MR. GEOFF .....(if he is willing)!!!
Geoff you are the best at teaching history. This video was so interesting especially the way you present it!! You need to do more videos! I felt like I was right there in Ste. Genevieve on the porch with you!😊
Ah, I have firench traditions as my mother is from France. But, I have modern traditions from France. And we have more when our cousins come to visit. One tradition is Potato Soup. I don't know if you have made it or know of it or it was part of early American series but, it is an easy soup. Potatoes, leek, carrots and celery. You can add or whatever with it or substitute garlic and onions for the leek. After it has cooked you empty the water and mash the contents. Add milk (or if cream then maybe add some water so it is not as rich) and put it back to warm up. Serve and you can put butter on it and some salt and pepper to season. Very good.
Do you know of anyway they would have quickly loaded either Fowler rifles or civilian smoothbores with normal round balls? Or would they have just used something similar to the military like a paper cartridge
History through storytelling enriches our lives. Thank you for sharing this video. I felt transported through time listening to Geoff's words.

This is what some of America has lost. We need more of this.
Mr. Geoff is such a great storyteller. I hung on his every word & was transported back in time. Thank you for sharing! 🙏🏽
Our pleasure! Btw, you like to come to our wedding? :)

I love the first person interpretation. Hardest to do but the most enjoyable, I think, and I truly enjoyed this. 🥰💕❤️👍👍
Wonderful explanations of the early French and native Creole way of life. And always enjoy Mr. Geoff!
That was amazing. Wow! So good. As someone who will probably never get to this place, what a treat to be able to experience it this way. Thank you.

I love the history telling. Thinking about making myself a pair of moccasins.

While a peasant might be able to make their own moccasins, I doubt that they could make sabot! Another great job by Mr. Geoff.

Does anyone in your settlement wear mitassen or the brayet?
Does anyone else besides me find his hat to be a little precious?
Yep. 😊
👍
I need some moccasins
Is this close to Tom Sawyer's house and museum ?
So-so. I believe that they are around 2-3 hours apart.
@@frontierpatriot I just wondered. We were planning a trip there this summer.
Why is the sound sound like a tunnel ???
wind and cheap mic :)
@@frontierpatriot lol ok
