    Ashley has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
    At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
    Some of Ashley’s interests are UA-cam, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s UA-cam channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her UA-cam channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

    GICs you have to let me know if your area smells like campfire 🙄. I’d be curious to see how far this goes.

    Last summer in NW Alberta we had smoke basically all summer. Many days our visibility was below 300m. What I observed was the plants that do better in part sun absolutely loved it. Tomatoes not so much, cucumbers and bell peppers did very well.

    This happened in the Berkshires, MA last season. There was a website or app to use to see when it will hit and the intensity. We had haze that the media said was fog, lol. It was orange. Peace

      @superkoopatrooper4879 2 місяці тому

      I'm also from MA, that's untrue. The smoke drifted over from Canadian fires and thats how the news reported it. There was no conspiracy. It impacted most of new england and I think new york for a day or two.

    Couldn't be more timely, Ashley! In Hinton we're right next to Jasper (pretty sad) aaaaand... we're beyond haze, the sun is blotted out, it's eerie orange and night-like outside. Or as the kids say, "It's like Mordor!" Siiiigh. Was just outside with my plants wondering what I should do besides shaking off the ash?😣
    Thank you!❤

      @@GardeningInCanadaJust in last 15 minutes it got even more Mordor-y. It's literally dark outside. But the rain has started! Hopefully enough to get the fires held. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    when we were young and burning organic garbage in the yard was still permitted(Philippines), elders deliberately burn wood or plant leaves near a tree (usually mango) so that it would produce lots of flowers and fruits 😊

    I’m SW of Calgary and the smoke rolled in just this morning, after I watered the garden. Still hot and sunny. A bit unrelated Ashley ( or GIC Crew) Do you have any recommendation for gopher removal that doesn’t involve illegal discharge of a firearm within municipal town limits? For a couple weeks I thought he was cute and now he’s digging holes absolutely everywhere. Maybe a small animal trap?

    We are not as bad as we were a few days back. The entire house was smelling a tad smokey. Nope, either it IS better, or I have gone nose blind. Lol We are just outside of Lloydminster.

    I’ve got a rain barrel which collects water from the roof. I can see the inside of it has a red layer. I think the wind blew the fire retardant onto my roof when they were working hard stopping the nearby wildfire. Silly question, will it be ok using this water on my vegetable/flower/ fruit plants? Thank you for your help.

    I live in Kingston, ON, so there is no smoke here (Touch wood). But I won't hold my breath because I'm sure that at some point, we will be, and we have been a few times over the years. My biggest concern would be a house fire since I live in suburbia.
