      It was so difficult. Washing clothes wasn’t easy 🥲 but I ended up with loving some of my clothes and get rid of the others hehe ^^
      And I learned to not spend my money on clothes that I’m not gonna wear so it’s helpful..

    I used to work five days per week. I used uniform rule to prepare clothes for work. Every week I wore the same 5 sets of clothes prepared for the season. I did laundries on Friday night so that I had Saturday and Sunday to let them dry. The feeling was so great from peace of mind I experienced every morning.

    I remember hearing someone talking about project 333 and saying they needed more items. I have always been pretty minimal so went and counted my clothing items. I tend to have 10-14 items per season. I live in a place with 4 distinct seasons. I am also not counting underwear or outerwear. I said this to someone once and they had a hard time grasping it. I have to tell them I literally have 5 sweaters, it was winter at the time of this conversation that I rotate. They were surprised because they never noticed I had only 5 sweater that I rotated with a few pants. Once I had someone ask me where I get my clothes that am stylish. I was stunned and almost blotted out that I have been wearing the same black pants all week long and just been changing my top. One thing I do agree with you on is that the clothes get worn out but that made me start investing in better quality fabrics and washing or cleaning my clothes in the right manner so they don’t get damaged. I still have lots of clothes that last till the next season comes around and if a top doesn’t make it to the next year, well, it has done well given the many times I must have worn it.

      I’ve had the same experience. I don’t have many items, I’ve been complimented on my style & asked about where I get my clothes…and if I do point out that I wear the same pieces over and over, people are usually shocked. They don’t notice. My wardrobe isn’t perfect, it’s always evolving…there’s always pieces that need to be replaced because they get worn! I finally made peace with the fact my wardrobe will never be perfect and I will still make purchase errors. But it’s significantly better than it used to be. I make significantly fewer compromises on fit, accepting “okay” pieces, and overall feeling comfortable in my clothes. Also, I wear my “good” stuff pretty regularly (because I no longer buy or hold onto worn/ill-fitting pieces or clothes I don’t like. And I think it’s these last 2 points that people pick up on when they compliment my clothes. They fit, I like them and am therefore comfortable which shows up as confidence, and I wear my nice clothes all the time…I do not save them for “special” occasions that rarely/never come. One last semi-related point…I remove all clothes that don’t fit from my closet and drawers. If something is “too small”, just seeing it sends a psychologically negative message that you’re not good enough today. I do not want to start my day being insulted by my clothes.

    For the first time in my life, I sorted out my clothes to only keep my summer outfits in my closet. It felt good to see a clear and light wardrobe and it spared me a lot of time when it came to choosing clothes. I didn't have much and had to wear the same outfits on repeat but I never got bored and actually, really enjoyed wearing my summer wardrobe ! Now I switched to fall clothes and realized some changes needed to be made to it so it will be more practical. I'm still figuring it out but I'm definitely on board with capsule wardrobes!

    I haven’t done the 333 Project although I have read the book and like it. The thing that helped me tune into what I love and what lives me back is that I’d did the Marie Kondo cleanup. It’s kept me from just buying things for retail therapy. I am also committing to sewing more/using my stash. I have long been someone who thrifts or goes to consignment stores as I find that’s a great way to actually see what lasts beyond the first week or two. A lot of brands including the expensive ones can look pretty sad as second hand wares.

    Hi Malama, I’m new to this group. At first I was inspired to watch you because my hubby and I love visiting Hawaii and one of our sons is presently stationed there in the Army. Minimizing has been a two year process for me, once we moved from a bigger home (in Utah) and vacation home (in CA) to a smaller bungalow style home here in TX. It was HARD at first… HARD…. lol…. And now I’m at a point that it feels so good (peace/simplicity) to get rid of things that I don’t need anymore. This process for me, has been in layers. Presently… I really need to focus more on my wardrobe! What you stated in this video about clothing that really doesn’t describe us, hit home for me. I have too many different types of clothing that doesn’t reveal who I really am. ❤Thx for the tips!

    • @Susan-sn8fx

      Oh! I forgot, I wanted to make two little comments. As far as washing clothes… I find it’s a good habit to start one load (even if it’s a small load) every day… to keep things flowing. AND I had learned from another minimalist teacher; that washing your clothes on delicate (or short wash), in cold or warm water, and hang to dry, keeps them from fraying and getting worn. Truly this has helped my favorite pieces from getting worn! If you do a load daily.. it’s only a few pieces to hang and it’s super simple. I wash sheets and under garments (undies/socks) in hot water of course (once a week).

  • @pinkroses135
    @pinkroses135 8 місяців тому +12

    It's definitely a process. I've never done 333 but I recently started a pick 7 outfits for the week, wear them over and over and swap out different pieces if I find they don't look that great on me/fabric doesn't feel right to me/doesn't fit experiment. It's whittling down the fantasy self options for sure.

    Thank you for the video! One thing you mentioned that many people dont is the wear and tear on your clothes when you are wearing the same things over and over again. 333 is a good concept if your clothes can take a beating or if youre not washing them after every wear, which does not suit my lifestyle. I think a more comfortable number for me is higher than 33 items.

    At the beginning of this month I had a sad experience of losing money. For some people it may be a ridiculous sum, but for me it was worth 2 months of my ‘pocket money’, i.e. the money I take from our family’s budget to spend on myself. This has got me thinking - can I live for 1-2 months without buying clothes? I even thought that I had been reckless with my money and had a sudden impulse to return some items I had bought ‘on sale’ and even sell smth I bought before and was in doubt. Anyways, I’m kind of trying to make the most wisdom out of this situation 😆

    I have been through this situation. Although I never did the challenge before, I have heard of it over the years. I once had only 10 pieces of clothing (not counting underwear). It wore them down a lot over time and I had to sew and fix things up a lot. I sweat a lot, as you do. I am sorry the fluctuation you have is growing. I think it is good that you realized what works for you and that you need more than 33 pieces in order to feel comfortable. I think it is important to use what you have and you were doing that and it taught you a great lesson, I feel. Your trip sounds amazing. I'm glad that you were able to prioritize yourself and your life more.
    I am going through the roughest period of my minimalist life in 17 years, as I am in between sizes. . between postpartum and the clothes I want to wear. I don't like most of my clothing right now and can't wait to get through this phase into what feels more normal for me. I may have to start fresh. I went through this twice before, but bounced back faster and feel I was more okay with living out of a small box of clothing back then than I am now.

      I feel for you. It’s hard when nothing we wear feels good. Is your clothing worth taking to a tailor for alterations? Also, I think of minimalism as a mindset, not a hard and fast limit. Taking care of yourself by getting some pieces that feel and look good is not violating your intentions (in my mind)

    • @TheMennomilist
      @TheMennomilist 7 місяців тому

      Oh no, I can't have a tailor fix it because I am bigger than before. Usually I wear an XS/Small and am in Med/Large right now from postpartum. I will get back though. Basically I HAD to buy more clothes so I had something to wear at all! I thrifted though. I will get back to my normal size, so I am going to keep my old clothes (I've gone through this twice before). I always only have enough clothes to fit one drawer.@@catherinegreen8440

    This sounds like a great idea. It also feels like a mindfulness activity. Thank you for sharing! Also, I was in the beautiful island of Oahu for 2 weeks. I went to Kailua Beach which is one of my favorites. Mahalo!

    I sophie I couldn't see last couple of videos of you cause of my work but yeah recently even I did similar thing I cleaned all my wardrobe clutter and coincidentally I kept the clothing which I used the most for the past 3months. Now I am really happy because my wardrobe has pieces that I usually like.

    I’ve been having trouble with this as well. I’ve been playing around with fewer clothing items (putting some away, only keeping current seasonal items in my closet). But it’s really difficult! I also fluctuate in weight and need to have a couple of sizes every few weeks to months. Great video, Ty!

    Thanks for sharing your take on this experiment 😊 Sophie I changed it to 50 clothes for 3 months, because that’s appropriate for me 😅 I resonate with your feelings of lesser time to pack, no one observes what u wear: it only matters to us 😂 and lesser headspace with clothes. I am gonna stick with this I think 🤔 thanks Sophie 🎉

    Love this, Sophie! I was wondering, what you did with your other pieces of clothing and accessories during your three month experiment? Did you box them up and place them in storage (whatever that means to you) so that you could reevaluate in the end and adjust as needed)? Did you donate them already? Can’t wait to hear! Also can’t wait to watch about your travels in Asia! Have fun ☺️🫶🏼

    To keep up on laundry I’ve been washing a small load (whatever I wore to work that day) everyday and then hang them to dry and then when I go to get dressed I just wear the outfit from the day before and without realizing it I’ve been only wearing the same 2 outfits everyday. Nobody to my knowledge has noticed and I don’t care, I don’t think I’d notice or care if I saw a co worker repeating outfits.

    Do your 33 items include multiples of the same item (eg. white shirts) or undergarments and socks? I just counted my entire wardrobe excluding those and I'm still under 33 items 😅

    33 pieces seems like a lot to me who wear only 10-13 items per season indeed. I wear clothes until they are completely worn out and no one notices. I actually wore my last sports shoes for 6 years until there were 6 visible holes on them and then called it quits haha.
