Agree 100% Some people seems to not being able for forgive the fact that the game might not be a 9.5/10. But it is a very good and solid game. Also, a good optimization is pretty much appresiated. Most AAA games these days are poorly optimized.
Thank you so much for making this video ♥ there were a few details I hadn't realized during my 8 or so hours with the game so far, and it helps a lot to see things explained well.
I just wanna say thank you in your review for talking about why you like* the game and giving it a fair and balanced review. Its so easy to bash something and its a lot harder to actually find positive things about something. So many people have been dunking on the game and oddly, the more they bashed it and gave their reasons, the more I was like, wait... I think I might like this game. But *your review* is what sold me on why I think im really going to like it. The buildcrafting, the action gameplay style (I loved DA2 combat), the honest and straightforward dialogue, upbeat tone, the choice *and consequence*. Kudos to you for being honest about your opinion even when it may be unpopular, and sticking to your guns even though the internet wants to crucify you for it. A lot of people will balk at the GOTY statement, which is a very strong claim, BUT, i know youre the kind of content creator who really thoroughly vets and plays and thinks on these games, and that you definitely dont throw that term out lightly. I also love that you talk about, why you particularly like the game, why it appeals *to you* and also point out the places where other people might hop off the train and say "this isnt for me"
Damn, weird to find myself on the other end of culture wars. Like, the game has its problems, but I'm playing it, and I'm enjoying the game so far. People out here downvoting videos about veilguard only because it is not criticism. Holy shit dude, who hurt you people.
Right there with ya. Immersion is top quality, combat feels engaging and impactful, lore is everywhere, story so far leaves me a little wanting, but I’m only 12 hrs in. This is my most anticipated title this year and so far it’s delivering on all fronts!
They're just losers. Only people with miserable lives and nothing better to do go around hating things instead of just enjoying what they like and ignoring what they don't like. It's just like my coworker who always gets in everyone's business and stirs drama and misery around the office. Her home life is HORRIBLE, her husband is a jobless drunk bum who screams at her and she has no hobbies. So she has to go around spreading her misery to others. This is why people do this kind of stuff.
It's fallout 4 and Skyrim all over again. These franchises that have long lives always have loud audiences that hate anything that was different than the best/first one.
I appreciate you making this and i hope you make some more guides bc i, like you, am enjoying this game so far. Respect for not bowing to the pressure of the hate on this one.

My thoughts exactly. It'll be a hard pass for me after all (being the first pass for a DA series, but this is imho not a dark, gritty fantasy world I expect DA to be). But I'm legitimately happy for anyone who likes it, I would prefer to be pulled in it once again, but it just doesn't do it for me this time.
Yep, every DA game has been different from the past one so while Origins was my favorite and I'll likely wait for a deep sale before playing this one, no hate on anyone who is enjoying it, we all have different preferences in gaming.
Love the video Mort. Thank you 😊😊. As someone who’s always played either rogue or mage in previous Dragon Age games, I decided to give Warrior a try for the first time ever cuz the combat looked like fun. And ngl, I have been having a BLAST!!! 😂😂. I play a two-handed Lord of Fortune. Between my shield throws, my kicks, and the fact that I’ve been spec’ing my Rook to do high stagger damage, and also buying stagger gear, let’s just say I keep using that takedown button a lot. It is so much fun!! 😁😁. Wild definitely be coming back to this video for my second playthrough when I’m deciding what class I want to play as. Knowing that there are so many different permutations I can take with regards how I approach the combat for this game has been an absolute delight 😅
Thanks for this! It will be very helpful when designing my character. I’ve been avoiding all the media about this game so I don’t form a biased opinion before playing it. Your review is the only one I watched because I enjoy/respect how thorough and objective you always try to be. I’d been a little worried about Veilgaurd because of the issues Bioware has been having. Good to know I don’t need to be concerned about that anymore. I’m even excited about trying the new combat system. Who knows, I might end up loving it! …if I can actually remember the button combos, lol.
I love the game. Thank you Mort for being so drama free and objective. Glad you reviewed the game even though it’s sadly a culture war battlefield right now.❤
It's tradition for me to play a two hand warrior first in these games but the perfect defence timings on Underdog were a bit too tight for me with the number of enemies etc. Was going to go sword and board but them remembered I could just tweak that setting to balanced while keeping the rest of the challange levels. I'm now happily smashing things. Looks like my build is more or less the same as yours. Was even just eyeing up that exact path to some extra rage.
I'm glad I saw your review first. I saw all the flak coming and appreciate the honest work you do. I bought the game and greatly enjoy it, actually more than Inquisition in terms of gameplay and story elements. Characters, some I could live without, but it's nowhere near the "jarring disney-facation" I've heard of. And there's definitely still some very dark elements that are very Dragon Age. P.S. I want a show where Varric is the DM of a Dragon Age D&D style campaign. I could listen to him tell any story.
@charles9489 color me a traitor of humanity, I like a video game. You are almost certainly a 20+ grown man, upset that someone else doesn’t hate the same video game you do. Find a real cause to apply all that angst towards.
This is why you're the only creator and reviewer i've joined to be a member and who I will ever trust. This is what being principled and owning your decisions and opinions is. Because they're simply telling the haters what they want to hear! Keep it up mort and please do not ever change!

Hey, so as I was manually saving the game, there was a botton to switch characters? What is this for? Im assuming this is to switch between multiple playthroughs? So dont need to delete first playthrough to start another one? Is that right?
From a game design perspective I’m very impressed with how they managed to simplify most of the systems themselves, while increasing their interactivity; this makes them both more accessible and deeper.
Been playing my warrior towards the two handed build and the big smashing skills feel really good. Gotta get used to trying to block though instead of just swinging 😆
My impression about this game was mostly negative and wasn’t planing to play it at all. But as a DA fan, I hope this can be a good one and because of mort’s “unique” opinion about this game, I’m actually gonna try it out myself
Thanks Mort! I’m doing dagger and orb and having so much fun with it. I’ve never enjoyed the combat in a DA game as much as I enjoy the combat in this game.
I'm playing orgins rn for the first time and the combat is brutally frustrating and not intuitive or tactile feeling 😂. Still loving the game but I think I agree with mort it might be slightly overrated.
@ I love Origins! But the combat is not the reason LOL. It’s clunky, slow and it looks ridiculous. The only thing I really did like was how I could stack Morrigan’s and Wynn’s spells for special effects. Wait, I also enjoyed the stupid attacks like throw dust to blind people and below the belt to stun people. And decapitations are fun.
This is definitely a title for you, then! I’m 12 hours in and the lore is EVERYWHERE! They’re touching on and fleshing out subjects from past games that I’ve been dying to dig into.
@ Thedas has been such a big influence on how I approach worldbuilding in my novels. I’m a fan of all the previous games, even the more contained DA2 was I think very good for what it is, and even Inquisition for it’s fetch quests on the side. The political intrigue, the cultures, trade routes, everything feels so populated
@@junechevalier I agree wholeheartedly. I’m a forever DM and worldbuilding is my absolute favorite part. I can forgive stories I don’t like here and there if the world building is great.
Not just previous games, there are connections to the books and comics as well. I can highly recommend both 'The World of Thedas' as an inspiration for worldbuilding, and also Tevinter Nights as a collection of short stories with many tie-ins to The Veilguard.
Here to say I'm not even 100% sure what my own opinion on this game will be, but I'll be forming it myself and I respect that you stuck to your guns on this game. Too many people are willing to hop on whatever bandwagon rolled into town this week, I swear.
Big two-hander smash smash is also the build I'm currently enjoying a lot on my warrior! The attacks have some real weight behind them and it never tires to maul your way through a group of enemies. Making all abilities a 'charged attack' is good stuff on bosses. Though, I`m probably going to respec and try out reaver for a bit for the area denial.
Funny that people who won't ever play this game find, they have enough knowledge of the game to criticize someone who has done just about everything in the game. Keep up the great work

Talking only to people who are arguing in good-faith here, I don't know how someone can prefer Inquisition's build and combat systems to this. Veilguard, whatever its flaws are, is just a superior when it comes to build, combat and combo. Every combat encounter in Inquisition on the highest difficulty makes me want to pull my hair out. Veilguard has annoying filler combat too, but at least when I build well I blaze through them a lot faster. Any inquisition fans can explain to me why you may prefer its combat?
Thanks! Don't worry, I'm not even bothered, had a fun Halloween with my son and all those comments & dislikes still mean they clicked on the video and gave me engagement which gives me more ad revenue.
I just want to say how much I appreciate you not giving in to the stupid hatewagon everyone jumped on with Dragon Age: The Veilguard. You actually shared your own opinion on it, despite all the negativity and backlash. Some people are so black-and-white that they’ll dislike this video without even owning the game or knowing what you’re talking about, just because you were positive about it. They think anything that gives The Veilguard the spotlight deserves hate. Honestly, it’s so simple-minded. What you did here really makes me trust you and your opinion on future games even more.
Please don't stop making guides if yu got anymore to give! I just bought this bad boi and totally stoked to play it! Origins fan since the beginning BTW 🎉
People who think Mort is easily swayed by corporations aren't fans, they're rageposters who migrated here to get angry. Look at his Dragon's Dogma 2 After 100% video and tell me he panders. He's one of the few reviewers I trust to present both good and bad features. If he says he enjoyed it, I'm taking him at his word. I'm still going to wait until Veilguard goes on sale, but not because I think Mort is a shill.
In Mort I trust. I was on the fence just due to mixed reviews. I generally ignore fickle and often times crybaby gamers. Mort loved it and he's not steered me wrong yet.
As many reviews said, the game is really a slow burn, 10 hours in i got really into it; 20 hours in, I really love it. The combat only gets better, as well as the lore and characters. The writing isn't perfect, but when is it ever in a game this big? Maybe not perfect but theres so much heart in this game, all complaints have legit sounded like "I hate the positivity." + the switch to metroidvania style exploration is also such a joy. Honestly besides bigotry I really don't see why people dislike the game, it is a new direction for Dragon Age, but anyone who cares anything about the lore will know that the world fundamentally feels like Dragon Age, even if it doesnt look like it. Your decisions not carrying over, but if thats the only thing that mattered in this world, then did you even like it for what it is in the first place? Or were you just attached to that sense of agency? A franchise does not need every product to be the same thing ad nauseum. Which is something many fanboys can't accept seeing all other franchises from Star Wars to Assassin's Creed. (Hate me all you want but Odyssey was amazing, had so much heart and was incredibly funny).
Good Guide, thnaks for the Info. Looking at the Skill tree for Mages, seems like fire is a bit under-represented or at least very complicated to make a Fire-Ice combination. Seems I have to be either a spellblade or deathcaller to have enough points for it.
So far I have seen the gameplay footage from various youtubers, it seems as a normal action adventure game the Veil guard is okish. Story and Lore is great too. But it further departed from the tactical RPG origins was. Its kind of Spiderman Remastered happened in Thedas with character building aspects pushed here and there. It may draw more casual gamers but surely anger long time DA fans. Another thing is that many just started criticising the game even before playing it.
I don´t think i´ve ever seen the redpill crowd THIS mad. I find the non-binary stuff a bit silly and cringe as well tbh, but good lord these people are going ballistic. Props to you for just doing your thing Morty, never change.
Mort is the most dedicated content creator I've seen on UA-cam yet. He's detailed, in depth with whatever the video is about and he takes pride in his work. He also cuts straight to the chase about whatever the video is about. Keep up the good work Mort, I love your content and I enjoy watching every video you put out. Mort, which class did you have the most fun playing as? My intention is to create one character in each and try them all out, but hearing from someone who played them all in highest levels could be useful. Thanks!
I wish people would chill with the hate. The game is perfectly serviceable unless you're paranoid about woke stuff. It's not for everyone and it's obviously watered down Dragon Age, but it doesn't deserve all the hate it gets
@Mattskywalk and truthfully trying to figure out what others like about something is a waste of time and energy. I take his reviews with a grain of salt. But I love he don't jump on the bandwagon like most big channels. And understand that every game has a place for someone.
I am now 27 hours into this game and I am surprised by how much I’m enjoying this game. It honestly keeps getting better the longer I play it and it’s blowing my mind, ngl
I spent like 45 minutes in the character creator just trying to decide my class. I ended up going warrior but Rogue also looked really fun. Well thats what second playthroughs are for. Great video and very helpful.
I've been having a grand old time with the game. Origins is my favorite so I naturally assumed I wouldn't click with this title, but the combat has been great fun and I absolutely love the lore and story so far. Dialog is a little lacking and quippy but it's on par with what I expected from a Dragon Age title. It's sad to see the real merit and positives of this game be buried underneath grifters trying to pay rent with fake outrage, but it's not dampening my experience lmao.

Anyone else getting the impression that most of the negativity-addicted haters have never even played the game at all, but talk like they have some experiential knowledge of it because they found a bunch of cognitively harmonious bashing videos?
My thoughts too. I think the game is pretty generic/meh, but when reviews are this polarized you have to play it yourself. It's not as bad as it's made out to be, but it's definitely watered down.
It's about proving a point to the industry. We don't want them to derive from their roots to include some vocal minority group. Having bad dialogue to include pronouns and feelings while sacrificing the core ideologies of DragonAge is a problem and we vote with our wallets. The characters look awful and cartoony.

Some people seems to not being able for forgive the fact that the game might not be a 9.5/10.
But it is a very good and solid game.
Also, a good optimization is pretty much appresiated. Most AAA games these days are poorly optimized.
The writing seems cringey, though 😂
@DLiotine so does repeating what a youtuber told you it "seemed" like. Sure its not very edgy writing but it's a fuckin video game not Shakespeare
Them: enemies are just sponges!
Mort: hold my build
They're hatewatchers. They have nothing better to do with their time but be petty children.
Who hurt who, there's like one negative comment in this entire section, chill
I appreciate you making this and i hope you make some more guides bc i, like you, am enjoying this game so far. Respect for not bowing to the pressure of the hate on this one.
Here comes the unrelated and hating comments already smh. Guys get something better to do? Fine you don't like this game, play something else.

@@tjep2670 and that tells you how little attention I paid to Andromeda when I played. Thanks for the info.
This game isn't for me but I respect Mort for sticking to his guns
I agree , at the end it's just a game and people are free to cover it
I mean, if he let children (or manchildren living in their moms' basements) dictate his opinions, that would be pretty stupid. Glad he's ignoring the hate.
And I respect that you say it's not for you rather than using it as justification for hate.
Some people are so petty about this game they stayed with the channel just to dislike content about it. Talk about unhinged.
An island of sanity in the sea of outrage
I really appreciate the tips and insight, Mort, thank you! Fantastic work as always.
Just started, this is very helpful!
It's nice to see balanced reviews with no hysteria and anger lol.
Not a fan of the game, but a fan of Mort. So Im here for the vid.
My people.
I'm excited to see more Dragon Age stuff from you.
Haaaaa this makes me so happy seeing you post veilguard guides. Way to not succumb to the neckbeards, this is why we love you!
@charles9489 color me a traitor of humanity, I like a video game. You are almost certainly a 20+ grown man, upset that someone else doesn’t hate the same video game you do. Find a real cause to apply all that angst towards.
Bought it and will play for my own opinion. Thanks for sticking to your guns Mort 💪🏼
based mort keep making positive videos on Veilguard. I don't even like this game (I think it sucks) but fuck the haters.
This is why you're the only creator and reviewer i've joined to be a member and who I will ever trust. This is what being principled and owning your decisions and opinions is. What people don't seem to realize is that the majority of the creators who simply decided to hate on this game without giving the game a chance so they can form their own opinions and just jumped on the hate bandwagon are the REAL SELLOUTS! Because they're simply telling the haters what they want to hear! Keep it up mort and please do not ever change!
Btw, I saw it mentioned you took a lot of flak for your veilguard and liking. We all appreciate you giving your honest opinion and the truth is its a game that changes the formula and artistic style in ways some can appreciate and some don't. Ignore those the fluffy mouths and finger and keep doing you. You are appreciated, been watching you a while. We need honest diverse opinions and some people are "dumb".
Started Yesterday and liked IT so far, 5h in. Very different from previous Games though! Mage is fun so far..
Mage has always been top dog in dragon age. Glad you're having fun.
@@stevieWonder-h2j same here. I loved inquisition and the fact they even brought back same voice for the inquositor is amazing. Gamrplay is best in series. I also normally play as a Mage yet I decided to start with a Rogue this time and so far it’s fun.

I just wanted to say. You were right about the game. I'm having a great time with it. I appreciate your review.
Hey mort. Love your vids. Which class would you say was best for dps? I was playing rogue but found it a little disappointing
Hey, so as I was manually saving the game, there was a botton to switch characters? What is this for? Im assuming this is to switch between multiple playthroughs? So dont need to delete first playthrough to start another one? Is that right?

Baldur's Gate 3 did the same thing. I feel all games should separate saves between different New Game starts.
@@JeannieLove a lot of games have that feature especially rpgs I think DA:O had it as well
From a game design perspective I’m very impressed with how they managed to simplify most of the systems themselves, while increasing their interactivity; this makes them both more accessible and deeper.
I love how he talks about the intricate skills of his spellblade character and then I look at my warrior "Get big stick and go bonk" build.
Best build ever. Unleash full unga bunga
I so badly want to start another run and see how the other side lives. Doing a mage on nightmare is a lot of juuuuuuust getting by. I love it.
Human. Male. Fighter. Sword.
My type of carrying on! Ignoring the whining mouth breathers and making content for the people who enjoy it. Thank you.
Been playing my warrior towards the two handed build and the big smashing skills feel really good. Gotta get used to trying to block though instead of just swinging 😆
Thanks for the guide! Going for a duelist rogue build when the game is done downloading.
I’ve been having so much fun with this game as a Rogue. Building momentum and perfect parrying is great
My impression about this game was mostly negative and wasn’t planing to play it at all.
I agree. I’m playing as a rogue and the combat is great. I’m only 10 hours in but I’ve been really enjoying it so far.
Thanks for the video. At least the comments are better than the initial video. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I’m really enjoying the game and really glad Mort is continuing to cover it - love this channel!
I love the worldbuilding in Dragon Age. Would love to give this game a try just for that aspect alone
@ As an author I do mind the story but if I can learn one thing or two about the worldbuilding, I’ll take every lesson I can get lol
I've played
Big two-hander smash smash is also the build I'm currently enjoying a lot on my warrior! The attacks have some real weight behind them and it never tires to maul your way through a group of enemies. Making all abilities a 'charged attack' is good stuff on bosses. Though, I`m probably going to respec and try out reaver for a bit for the area denial.
The best combat in a Dragon Age game so far. It’s so fluent and impactful, I love it.
Funny that people who won't ever play this game find, they have enough knowledge of the game to criticize someone who has done just about everything in the game. Keep up the great work
For warior you can switch your weapons while you attack, and this can create a new combo for attack.
Am 5 hours in and loving it. I had to adapt to the gameplay as it´s not as easy as it was in 2 and Inuisition. But this is definitly the best mage gameplay we ever had. Love the shield and that we actually have to move in as mages in a DA game :)
game feels alright so far. my biggest issue is that I cant control my party plus no evil option. big missed opportunity imo
Tbh I honestly can’t really think of many “evil options” throughout the whole series. Nothing on the scale of mass effect evil anyhow
@@hdawglion718 yes but 1 thing i found annoying is that sometimes when i select a arrogant/angry option, the voice line is different. That wasnt in older games. You could be rude to npc’s
Regarding the evil option, I think that should be a norm in 2024 rpg’s. This feels like its too safe to be a choice based rpg. Only 15 hrs in now so lets see what happens ahead
@@8wayz2shineI didn’t feel that at all, I felt like MY character is an unknowing child that messed up a Gods plan (which involved cracking a few eggs). At the end of that convo I felt like my character was already questioning if what they did was right or wrong. I imagine Solas will be guiding me now as my fade buddy.
With how the skill system is setup combo wise I'm guessing this was not their first setup. Probably hard to manage if not simplified.
Same for no health for the companions.
Have not gotten far into the game but so far I really love the game. Yes I have played every one in the Dragon age games no I am not afraid of games trying to be different from their earlier games but I also understand why other may not like the game because it changed to much.
can you play multiple class in one playthrough or are we meant to use only one?
No multiclassing. They all fight inherently differently in game so you cant really mix them and match them
Mort you’re a hero not a sellout. This game sucks in my opinion. I respect yours. Still the best UA-cam reviewer on the internet.
love the work, keep it up and dont mind the mad children, its not your fanbase, they are just hating everyone liking the game, it will pass as they always do.
The game is actually pretty fun. Thanks for this!
That's why I liked Inquisition.

Not sure about all the negative reviews because I'm really enjoying the game. Thank you Mort for the video, really helpful.
Another great video Mort, thank you.
ahhh thank god there are items that change ability afflictions, was kinda bummed that my melee rogue does exclusevely necrotic dmg.
It'll probably be a long while before I play this one but it's cool seeing some of the build possibilities here.
Mort please dont let the comments from these tools discourage you. Keep up the good work, i love your videos and value your opinion on games
Thanks! Don't worry, I'm not even bothered, had a fun Halloween with my son and all those comments & dislikes still mean they clicked on the video and gave me engagement which gives me more ad revenue.
Starting my game today so this will definitely help out. Thanks Mort!
Super helpful video, thanks!
Good vid Mort! Curious are you going to post the builds you've been running like how you did with BG3?
Just one
@MortismalGaming I hope it's your spellblade one. That's a class I'm definitely looking at playing
Much appreciated my friend. I’m absolutely loving this DA installment. Not a favorable comment I know. But I’m having fun, so that is all I care about
Good Guide, thnaks for the Info.
I use the controller but play the game and press R1. There you get Mass Effect style tactics
I hope that you're having a great day.
I'm 5 hours in and like the game. I'm missing my inquisitor(s), but I missed my Hawke at the beginning of DAI as well. All 4 DA games are very different. Thanks for the guide! ❤🎉
All mementos for caretaker can be found or should I buy any I can from vendors?

Thanks for talking about the actual game instead of focusing on politics.
Mort your videos are the only reviews on youtube i use, keep doing you
Mort, which class did you have the most fun playing as? My intention is to create one character in each and try them all out, but hearing from someone who played them all in highest levels could be useful. Thanks!
Late game mage, Rogue is probably the best overall I'd say. Warrior is a bit slower comparatively.
I wish people would chill with the hate. The game is perfectly serviceable unless you're paranoid about woke stuff. It's not for everyone and it's obviously watered down Dragon Age, but it doesn't deserve all the hate it gets

I’m only 15 hours in, but I’m enjoying the game despite some of the short coming in the writing and gameplay. It’s still scratching the itch I had for dragon age

But can I build a party of 6 nekkid halfling barrelmancers...? ;-p
Thank you Mort for your tenacity. I am enjoying the game immensely, as a long time fan. Hi Mortismal, do you have a referral link through wich I can purchase the game AND support your channel?
I appreciate the thought, but no, that would be a huge conflict of interest for a reviewer. You could join the channel members or just super thanks any video though!
@@MortismalGaming ooh that is true.
