You’re really good at this I love your passion and the fact that you’ve delved so deep into this hobby and built up so much knowledge in such a short time it’s so encouraging
Ive spent endless time, and ive come up with the decision to name this guy,by far the "Nike" of all cosplay Ironman suits--period.Thank you Frank for all the dedication and hardwork you done for the people, and im greatly appreciative of these videos.Hats off to you Sir!
You! are opening people too the world of 3d printing! Me and so many people see it as a nic nac printer! And your showing us it can be so much more! That’s awesome!
Just found your channel after getting into 3D Printing and subbed super fast. I'm also starting with the hands and you're right, it's a pain. About to print my 3rd one and it's good to know it's not just me having an issue scaling these things.... lol. I thought I was measuring wrong or just missing a simple step but you're right, there really is no good way to measure the hand against the STL file.
For the palm lights, I'm using LED strip wrapped around the perimeter of the ring and facing inward, covered by frosted perspex, which gives a halo effect to the light. Cutting 5v strip at 2 or 3 LEDs shy of the cut line allows you to use a 3.7v LiPo to power it.
Just discovered your channel and thank you I got my first printer a month ago and you help answer so many of my questions and as ive recently printed and started preping a mk3 helmet you have helped alot so again thank you you have a new subscriber
I can't believe i never thought about just wearing a glove and sliding it into the hands/gloves... i always would try to glue the gloves i'd wear underneath to the armor itself... thanks for this vid!
Thank you for the info man, your work is amazing and your generosity sharing your secrets and techniques makes you one helluva stand up dude. My suit is coming along great thanks to your advice. Much appreciation for everything you do.
Man I swear any time I have questions on how to do something, you have it covered already. I've said it a few times in the past but thank you. Currently printing a MK3 helmet and after this guess I'm moving to hands.
Nice work Frank! Have you looked into using a glove like the Maxiflex glove brand? They are thin, woven nitrile, very pliable and it might totally eliminate the flex tape. We used them at work. You could pick up a 1/4" washer off the work table. The electronics could be applied to the outside of the glove and not to the inside of the printed glove. Of course the print would have to be sized larger. The flex glove could be lightly painted to hide the skin color of your hand also. Just thinking out loud! 🤓
A great video...I am currently working on a pepakura carboard suit and I exactly did the same for the fingers...I tried pointer finger an it fit my middle finger and then I did some calculation and eventually got it right. And now I was about to work on palm and luckily found this video. And the part with elastic made me super happy. Thanks for all this. Love your work dude
So for my birthday thats in a month, im going to get one of those 4x4 printers, and is now planing on making money by selling iron man gloves, and im glad i came to this video
I have saved you in my favorites for some time now and I had some ideas about the glove and I wanted to see if yours were any different. It turns out that your ideas that you already have to your glove what these acting things I was already thinking I already have the thingivers glove printed out and I already Had the elastic ready to go. I just wanted to thank you because I know that I'm on the right path.
Yup, I have a bag full of 'failed' prints. I had crazy problems with scaling the individual finger segments to suit my own hands. All sorts of percentage ratios on even a single finger. I'm basing mine over snug fitting leather gloves which match the burgundy red of the paintwork, which complicates things somewhat. I was thinking of attaching the wrist plates with those magnetic purse snaps.
Got it, I found the sweet spot on size of the finger tips , Im stiil a noob on meshmixer I get so disoriented trying to lay flat each finger part , but gonna try to print like a tea cup
(I'm "old school"...) I remember making Freddy gloves with real metal, copper, rivets, etc. That took a LOT longer! Just ordered my 1st 3D printer that should be here in 2 days...can't wait!
Thanks for this info! Not too fast at all, we can always pause and rewind. A couple of questions, what kind of elastic band are you using? Also why didn’t you like the TPU fingers? I just printed out a set with some fairly thick walls and they seem like a nice compromise between flex and looking solid. I’m printing off the palms now and will test soon.
I’m wanting to get started, Bebe watching a few of your videos but I do have a question on STL files. When it’s downloaded can you reuse the file? Or a 1 time print?
I’ve just started printing out the gloves and holy hell are they awkward. I’ve got smaller hands than most people and the part that goes between the fingers for the main gloves just stop me from getting a good fitting on the fingers. So I know what you mean by printing so many parts!
Nice video dude - though you could always add smothing modifiers to the stl file in blender to fix the low pollyness instead of spending loads of time filling and sanding down
Paul Culkin thanks! I’ve thought about that but I don’t need to use any filler. 2 minutes with my palm sander smooths it out perfectly however I wouldn’t mind an upgrade And now I have a Sony A6600!
Hey awesome video! I’m making my first iron man glove and have no clue about electronics. I was wondering if you can make a video about making gesture activated leds like in your suit. Like the repulsers or stones
What model did your fingers come from? I can't find it . Believe me, I looked. Or did you make the borders on the Top of the uppermost part that meets the knuckle has a border that is painted gold in your example. I really like this look. Forgive my butchering of the english language.
Thank you for this video, brother. God bless you. I wonder, I do you size each finger and the angle of each finger? I'd love if you explain them because I am having a hard time. Thank you brother, God bless.

So I did a test fitting of my gloves, and that went very well! But I noticed it was very difficult to grip anything as the PLA just doesn't get any traction. Have you (or anybody else reading this) found a good solution?
@@FranklyBuilt OK thanks, I was figuring some sort of tape or similar would be the way, just figured I'd see if there was anything in particular that someone had success with before experimenting.
Maybe a suggestion: drop the low poly model into blender. Go into sculpting mode and there is a tool to smooth areas. The size of the tool is adjustable for big and small areas. Might come in …errrr…handy.
You printed a lot of low poly stuff. Just wanted to give some help if you want. Im converting low poly to high poly. Im currently converting a whole low poly mk7 to a high poly one (mave on your discord). So if you need help i can try ! Good video !
instead of using your index finger and your middle finger for the controls why doing u try your pinky and your ring finger that will give u the ability to make a fist??

Any tips on the best adhesive to bond the elastic to the printed parts? 😊
You can actually get flexible superglue. Adam Savage features it in some of his recent makes.

Working on Heartbreaker for next year, but these hands (specifically yhe d03d ones) are frustrating. How do i assemble the two halves, seamlessly?
Would flexi pla or tpu be more comfortable to make a fist with?

The second he said elastic strips I closed my laptop and went to buy some at my local arts and crafts store ^_^
