I cannot get to the replay button fast enough. Let it be known, this 15 year old loves classical and would do anything to be able to play any and all instruments for this purpose alone. This is everything a touching and expressive piece should be.
This is one of my favorite Songs. I read where it is one of Hilary's mom's favorites too. Thanks Hilary for bringing your sweet elegance to the music you touch. Such Heaven is a Song.
I woke up listening to this on the radio a few mornings ago. Half asleep, I started sobbing uncontrollably. It is not about a lark, real or imaginary; like his oboe concerto it is about a mother's love for its child. Listen to the orchestral lullaby after about 2.35. It expresses a universal love, a love for all creation. I love Vaughan Williams. I'm crying again.
I just wanted to say how much I agreed with your comments, as to the emotion this piece evokes for me as well. I love classical music in general and this piece touches me . Do you mind sharing more?
Steven Ferrill You're very kind. To be honest, I wouldn't know where to start, I've had a very strong emotional response to music as far back as I can remember - it can be almost any genre of music, but classical music produces the deepest responses. All I would say is that I strongly suspect music is akin to machine code in computing (awful comparison to make I know) in that the brain processes it directly, language always has to be 'translated' first. Hence why the actual words of a song are secondary, the feelings are conveyed by the sound they make . Whoops I'm off again. Sorry. As you can see, music occupies a lot of my thoughts!
Hello again, and thank you for your comments back and your kind comments as well. I am just intrigued how music, especially classical touches you and know I understand better and agree wholeheartedly. I tried to send you my response to your last email, but it did not go through, as it went to No Replies at the you tube email address?
I agree with you...... this song makes me cry like a baby. Every time. I just lost my Father and this is a song that we both loved. I remember hearing it for the first time many years ago sitting in my car outside of Staples..... I was floored. Truly love Ralph Vaughn Williams.
Unimpeachable, immaculate and hypnotizing performance ! Our voice does not reach the ears of the Lark that fly high in the sky. All things disintegrate and the center can't be the center. Sorrow and lamentation are emancipated.
@bertxo I do agree, I listened to several performances and by far this is my favourite. The Lark... forces the violinist to keep changing the whole time and that's why it's a very difficult piece to play.
I taught exactly the same yet it's not a painting, it's just a photograph, I loved the tattoo which pretty much simbolizes what (I think) Vaughan Williams represents in this very particular play.
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I'm currently learning this piece, and I am in love with its grace. Such rich harmonies. . . I love Vaughan Williams. :)
Very gentle rendition. Kind of like kicking back and gliding in cruise control … and I mean that in the best way. I think it must be extra difficult to sound so relaxed and effortless while maintaining a subtle tension and total engagement for audiences to experience. Ah, such a gem...
Hi SugarPlumFairy-so beautyful!Your violin comes up,Your magical wand comes up and You fill the whole world with beautyful music.I would like to kiss each bird lightly and hold You until the pain stops.Love You so much Sugar! An Prayer!
Amazing ! years ago when skylarks where a plenty you can imagine the bird going up into the sky in small increments at a time then pausing, as if to say" look at me " i'm wonderfall shoo be do be wah im not a bit like you im a super show biz star etc .
@LadyInDaHouse88 I wrote it so many times that It might seem I have no ther possible answer but yes, her interpreation is final to me, it could not be anything better than this.
beautiful, and so is that tatoo, could have been the famous logo of the Larousse enciclopedias of another time, "je seme a tous les vents", improved with the light seeds becoming free birds....
I didn't know if Hilary would see this or not!Its just a nickname I came up with around a yer ago.Her statement when She was interviewing a Beta fish shook Me!She said something like She was dieing?I told Her a fish story which was true and tryed to offer some hints or suggestions to hopefuly beat the depression with!So I hope this is Hilary.I was just listening to Her one day and realized how beautyful She is then some other things came up and I didn't get to comment for a while. No bad intented
Hi Hilary. If You get this to read? This seams like something You like to play. Its beautiful.Hope everything is going really terrific.Love and Prayer *xXOo*-*oOXx* please say a prayer for Me.Thanks!
I can play a pentatonic scale. Anybody pretty much can. But compose a masterpiece such as this? It goes much beyond a simple pentatonic scale my friend.
You're welcome. I'm glad for him, it's nice to see that new generations do appreciate this too.
Her delicacy of touch is so remarkable combined with the intensity and passion of her playing, just beautiful!

Hilary Hahn's rendition is definitely my favorite. Beautiful
This is one of my favorite Songs. I read where it is one of Hilary's mom's favorites too.
Thanks Hilary for bringing your sweet elegance to the music you touch. Such Heaven is a Song.
My 6 month old son listens to this and he absolutely loves it. Thank you for posting it.
an angels voice singing on the violin. hilary has always been my by far absolute favorite violinist and this is one of her masterpieces ...
There are many fine performances of this deceptively 'simple' work. And then there is Hilary Hahn. She stands apart and plays this like an angel.

always beautiful music accompanied with beautiful photos...thanks :)
I'm studying this piece and this interpretation is a reference. Perfect tempo, intonation and sound. The score fits perfectly with Hilary's style.

Senza parole! Emozioni che mi scuotono l'anima...
This is so so beautiful thank you .
She plays this like an Angel!
SO GOOD
what a superb performance

Beautiful, thanks for sharing.
L'extrème justesse et une égalité de vibrato, au service d'une ligne mélodique sans faille. C'est divin.

Yes.
True.
Especially nice on a Sunday morning...
perfection
@beckfreak2000 With this music as perfect background, around 10 AM. Or perhaps, it's just me... I do idealize too much, you know.
beautiful, and so is that tatoo, could have been the famous logo of the Larousse enciclopedias of another time, "je seme a tous les vents", improved with the light seeds becoming free birds....
@larkascending100 Indeed.

nice music and nice tatoo

Oh, I see...
nice
Quite so.
und bald bald bald singen sie hoffentlich wieder in unseren weiten.... los frühling - komm frühling... mach hinne
The ink spill on the upper right back fails Kant's examination of real beauty. The violin is wonderful!
¿¿¿???
So slow…it's wonderful
not my favorite vaugh williams, pentatonicism is overrated
