after watching levy's tourney series (which i love by the way) watching hikaru really hits different.
he's playing 3+1, and the considerations he's memorised or is making realtime in his head, at a 3+1 game, is so much more complex and in-depth than levy. who is obviously better than 99.95% of us
The gap between super GM's and everyone else is insane. Even the gap between Hikaru and other GM's is insane. They on another level of dedication.
Person tied with best player in the world vs top .whatever % is a huge difference. Think about Usain Bolt vs other people who are the top in their nation. This difference is huge and people who get this good at something while being ultra dedicated normally are gifted in some way that just makes their brain wired to be able to do these kinds of calculations.

somehow, hikaru makes quite some mistakes and blunders in these events even against players below the GM title, and its hard to excuse him for not having a good day because it just happens annually. On the other hand, he really doesn't blunder as much in competitive events(in a match-scale comparison to events like titled tuesday and arena kings) where there are players of his level and he is capable of showing his FIDE rating's worth. In addition to that, he takes both tournament types very seriously. The mechanism is kinda strange to be honest.
He clearly doesn't take Titled Tuesday that seriously and plays dubious/sub-par openings like the modern to hide prep
@@ym276 He said it himself that he takes all cash tourneys seriously because there's money and rating on the line.... Even if his openings were dubious, Idk man its hard to say that he's slacking off at all when you hear him make the calculations and his commentary on the positions.....

@@ym276 Well the reason that he plays dubious openings most of the time is exactly to get a win. He said it multiple times that if he plays mainline openings, there are many chances that his opponents would just opt for a drawing line. on the other hand, dubious openings can create imbalance. "Talking to chat is just a responsibility of a streamer to interact with the viewers" is what he said, so imma leave it up to you whether you think that's taking the match seriously.
