Do:
1. listen to a different version
2. repeat after each section
3. understand the lyrics
4. put yourself in the situation
5. hand-write down the lyrics
Do not:
1) Sing along
Your suggestion about listening to the words and writing them down took me back to my days of listening to a record, lifting the needle, writing and then putting the needle back down to listen to more. I seldom hit the same spot so it meant I'd hear some, most or all of the previous lyrics again which meant more opportunities to memorize. It also reminded me that it's way too easy to simply go to Google, print off the lyrics and then stare at them wondering why they won't stick in my head. Thank you for reminding me of those long ago days and how remembering lyrics seemed so much easier then.
Thanks Wally! I'm the same. Sometimes I just need to pick up a pen and write things down by hand. The information gets retained better that way :)
This was very helpful. I have always been a very slow learner with lyrics, they just never stick! I used to just listen over and over. Thanks to your advice, now I have a couple new techniques I can try for my new cover song videos on my channel! Also, I did notice the more I connect with or like the song, the easier it is to learn. Listen to any Karaoke track. The vocals that play in the back ground are backing vocals.
this is a LIFESAVER! My teacher gave me a song to sing pretty last minute and I'm constantly freaking out and forgetting the lyrics! This gave me some guidance..Thank you :)

did this way before seeing this vid. but glad i had the right idea to learn lyrics in mind. i still forgot the lyrics. it was the song i chose. it was pop and my first time trying pop hahaha i'm better at ballads. it was not embarrassing but i was really disappointed in myself. but glad that i tried something new. and these methods do work.

You need to understand what it is you're singing. I sing in Italian and Spanish all the time but always learn the meaning of the song first.

Remembering the lyrics has always been something I have been running from; however, lately, I had been using the 2nd and the 3rd tip you shared to remember the lyrics; and after watching this, I have another way added to them.........thanks for sharing the video......as always it helped:)

Please I would be so grateful if you can find me lyric of permanently by kiara Lanier. I could not find any where ! I can’t catch up the lyric of the song!
When I'm learning lyrics I play the original song a couple of times. Then I leave it for a minute and slowly sing each line from memory while wrighting it down. Each time I keep on repeating it like that but I leave a longer gap between listening and writing so it is harder to remember. A few times after doing that I can normally start singing the song anywhere even if I haven't heard it for ages.

i use the car backing instumental idea all the time. is so nice when everything matches up with the music. getting decent backing tracks can often be a pain though. usually try write them out a few times then go belt el out in the car :)

+Karim Dulatov well i kept listening to the song and try singing, then i pause it and try again to singing it while the artist is singing it, so i repeat some of the parts of the song so i know and will remember it :) sorry if i don't make sense 🙈😁

i literally can never remember songs, but some songs were just chosen to stick with me
I use karaoke music vids and I have seen how much I know and have been surprised. For me, it's nerves more than the lyrics themselves. I definitely sound way better when I know the song thoroughly and am comfortable in my environment. When I am somewhere not comfortable (don't know anyone) then my quality goes down and my memory fails me. Driving and singing is better than texting and driving.
