Listening all the time, I’m autistic, diagnosed as an adult. I remember as a child, and still to this day, listening to everything. It’s not just a responding when you want to thing, sometimes it’s just hard to answer, almost like a can’t thing being stuck inside your head. But, know that more than likely he actually hearing and understanding every word you say.

I don’t comment a lot but on this video I felt I had something to say-my beautiful son is now 21 and I recognise Sawer in him in every way possible except for the shoe insoles! From the maths skills to zoning out (not quite there, the lights not on, they’re in their own little world I heard it all) the reason I write is just to let you know give it time, give it time and try to enjoy the journey(easier said than done-I know)and perhaps easy for me to say 21 years down the line. My son has come such along way he can handle teeth brushing, nails been cut, hair been brushed ,socialises beautifully , everything you worry about and responds so appropriately people haven’t got a clue that he is autistic (not that it would matter if they did know!) I am immensely proud of my son and all the things he had to overcome to become the beautiful person he is today with a wonderful job he loves and where his wonderful and unique personality can shine and who is carving his own place in the world . Sawer is still so little he has the world at his feet - it is a beautiful privilege to be able to watch him grow and see where his journey will take him and where ever that will be he will be safe because you and Will will be at the side, just give it time - I shall look forward to seeing where he is in 21 years time. You are doing such a great job, Much love Southampton, England x
Having just talked to my son (I wanted to make sure it was okay for me to talk about him) we thought it would be a good idea just to mention (and I know this will be hard because you have such a busy house) if , at times, you could talk to Sawer in a quieter and gentler voice because loud is not always better especially if sensory sensitive in certain ares (I know he sensory seeking with the spinning) and just give him extra time to respond (This is not a criticism on your parenting just an extra tool to use to try, having been down this road , hope you don’t mind me suggesting it)xxx

I love him! I have three sons - 2 with autism and one ADHD. Sawyer reminds me so much of my youngest son Ethan who’s 4. Especially I noticed when he did the thing with the doorknob! Ethan LOVES reflections! Brushing teeth is hard with him bc of the texture of the toothbrush and his gag reflex. Sawyer is just adorable!!!

Great job filming a day in Sawyers life. Sawyer is blessed to have you and Will as parents. You take such good care of all your children. Glad to see you & Will are able to do something for yourselves like each being able to go out & run.

You are just amazing. What I learned about autism is that yes they hear us but too shy to engage and come across as ignoring us. You just have to engage him more by keeping him busy doing things with you which you are doing amazingly. I feel like he going super high functioning. He is super cute and lucky to have you as a parent. 💕

Your right about being in his world but yeah in the past year he has really come quite far. I've in the past and occassionally I still work with autistic children. I think this year from just video observation he would beat the bottom of stage one maybe a little two. But he is responding to you guys now, hes talking alot more. I think with continued O.T. he will go far. He is so cute and yes very smart. It has been so nice to see to see your kids grow.

Haven’t finished watching yet but I’m totally with you when you said you feel like he’s listening but doesn’t want to respond. Mines exactly the same , she’s super super verbal and when she wants to talk or is interested in the subject she can talk and talk for hours , sometimes I swear she doesn’t take even take a breath for air. But if I ask her a question “what do you want to eat” , “did you have PE” , etc she completely blanks me and you’d think she didn’t hear , I could call her name over and over and she wouldn’t look but the second I say something like “here’s a chocolate bar” or something that interests her she answers and looks up immediately. So she definitely hears me , she’s just particular about what’s worth the effort to answer me. The constant supply of energy is so her also! 🤣

I love your little family! I hardly ever comment but your family is really special to me! I found your channel when I was pregnant with my twins five years ago, around the same time Emily was pregnant. I followed her updates religiously because she was a few months ahead of me so it let me know what to expect. I love watching your children grow. Super special! Keep up the good work you two!

Having worked in 4-6 yr old autistic classes in public schools as a teaching assistant, I feel that Sawyer is low on the autistic scale - meaning not too severe - but he is immensely high functioning - almost to the point of having Aspergers Syndrome which is where he excels in usually one specific subject, such as his math skills. I would love to have a whole classful of Sawyers to work with! :-) (Keep in mind, I am not an expert at diagnosing, but have seen quite a few autistic children his age through the years.) Just a hunch, but I'll bet he's going to be fantastic at music/singing also. Y'all are WONDERFUL!!!

  • @KateH77

Emily. Have you thought about trying an electric toothbrush with Sawyer because the vibrations from it might encourage him brush his teeth especially if he’s very sensory based. I’m suggesting this because until we started using an electric toothbrush with our son. He didn’t like doing his teeth.

when in meltdowns happen most of the time just means too much info might be coming in like it is too bright too loud even can come from too much feelings at least that what happens with me when a meltdown happens you are doing the right thing by ignoring them but also turn down the lights and noises if you can

This is why I asked if they ever dx him as Savant because some autistic children can be savant too. Savants have really extremely high areas in some areas like math to the point you could ask them what day was January 6the on in 1945 and they can tell you. It will show more as he gets older if he has that too but I strongly suspect.

Bless his soul!! He has improved so much over the years and will just keep improving. Autistic kid's speech and acknowledgement gets better as they get older. They're very literal people (ie they don't like being fussed over and are difficult to show emotions) so getting into his 'headspace' may be hard right now but definitely not impossible. I'm so excited to keep following his journey 🙏💙🤗

I'm 16 years old and I have autism, and one way people get me to be engaged when I dissociate (go to my own world) is by asking me to answer a question but they say the wrong answer because they know that if I knew the right answer I would correct them.

I was like Sawyer, and please don.t scream at him, i never understood why my mom is yelling at me, i was so small and the only person that i trusted was screaming at me, i had meltdowns i couldn't stop myself, i was screaming and yelling, because i knew what i wanted, so if he wanted dinner give him some food, his body crave it,he needs more nutrients, organic food, organs like liver from chicken or beef, eggs, butter, chicken without antibiotics, search a local butcher, read meat, the kids deserve organic food, all coming from animals,no flour, grains,no sugar a lot of crap and chemicals, Sawyer is sensitive to toxins, his body eliminate toxins slowwly, and nervos system is suffering. Also he doesn't absorb very well minerals. At 6 years old i was reading newspapers,no one taught me,i wanted to live in my world and nobody touch me,and nobody scream at me,and leave me alone, i love music and movies and learning stuff because only this give me happiness and rises oxytocin serotonin levels in my brain, i can.t socialise crap that people are talking about it s booooring, since i am eating way healthier i feel happier i am a lot in the sun, walking relaxes me, i take b vitamins with b12, magnesium b6 ,potassium, vit d + k2, electrolites, sea salt for me is very important, regular salt has no minerals,i eat fish oils, fresh fish, i can think clearer now, and can handle stress, its harder to annoy me now. When you where pregnant the twins didnt had the minerals and nutrients they needed because they where 2. I want your family to be healthy. And now when i.m older i understand what was wrong with me.When i look at this poor little guy, i want to help him, he deserves
a happy life.I also thinking he is not autistic. He listens everything you say but it.s hard for him to respond because he is annoyed then and not happy, don.t pressure him, when he is happy he will come to you and respond.It.s hard for him to express emotions. Of course therapy and all the help is welcomed but you can help him too by fixing from inside. So don.t listen the doctors, some of them are stupid, no ofense.Mom"s intuition is way more correct then their studies, so please change your diet, everything from nature. You are a super mom.

A friend who lives in Canada has a son with autism who’s been making good strides…..it all started when their doctor had her cut out ALL processed foods, cut out all sugar, all fructose corn syrup, etc…..basically she feeds organic fruits and vegetables to avoid 99% of chemicals sprayed on our foods (research the “dirty dozen foods” to ONLY eat organic) she uses RAW, LOCAL honey or PURE MAPLE SYRUP for sweeteners. Because of the limited food choices, she makes him homemade, high protein waffles, pancakes, he eats hard boiled eggs, blueberries, strawberries and the favorite …watermelon for breakfast.
She always puts out a little of a variety, and adds a little bit of something different…..like scrambled eggs, etc….rarely does he eat the ”added” food, but it has happened 😂 But the key seems to be a clean, chemical free, natural diet and routines, therapy, etc. etc (everything you talk about)
But….every country, every doctor, every family, every autistic child is different…..so whatever people find that works for them is great! ❤️
