Well they can catch 50% of the time. That's been infuriating to me but I also think JJ has some lingering injury issues because for a few games they essentially took the Deep ball completely off the play calls.
They went deep a *lot* early in the game against Nebraska. Missed every time, some were the fault of McCarthy, some a fault of the receivers misjudging the ball. I don't think it's for a lack of trying, it's just who they are right now. McCarthy's decision-making isn't as good as McNamara. Overall better with his mobility, but I think this is just who they are this year.
@Choppa Not really. The transitive property doesn't work in college football. Ohio State has looked better against some teams than Michigan and worse against others (i.e., Penn State). Their game will be decided by Ohio State being home and by how they match up with each other, not how they matched up against common opponents.
So is the CFP committee going to try and keep the ACC in it by having Unc and Clemson both be top 10 teams going into the ACC championship? Then if the pac-12 doesn’t have a 1 loss champ say that championship matters and put in the ACC champ at 4? Neither team deserves it but interesting to see where both are in the rankings this week with 2 weeks left I would expect UNC to be 12 and Clemson to be 8 based on how the games played out this past weekend.
Michigan has a tight gap scheme. OSU is trying to turn their running game into exactly what Michigan does. Potentially this makes it EASIER on the Michigan Defense because they are used to this.

Joel - Great point about the PAC-12 with no elite program leading to cannibalism. BUT... is this a function of the conference OR is this a leading indicator of college football in general. With the transfer portal, NIL contract recruiting, playoffs, and shifts from regional conference appeal to national TV revenue generation, can the concept of "elite" teams persist in a sport undergoing rapid, seismic foundational changes driving the sport. Small market teams like Alabama could in times past build generational powerhouses based on coaches and winning tradition, but through transfer portal, NIL, and TV revenue, historically lesser-light teams in big markets now have the advantage and we are starting to see this shift. The PAC-12 is the leading indicator, the canary-in-the-coal-mine if you will, of what is to come.
You absolutely start Trevyon Henderson. As the Cleveland Guardians taught us (albeit in baseball) starting Aaron Civale in gm 5, looking ahead for a potential atrategic advantage is extrememey short sighted. You always ensure you make it to the next game rather than overlooking your current opponent, rolling the dice and playing strategy.

Lay off the weed! Ohio State has a championship in 2014 & 2002. They have 8 all together. How many teams have more???ESPN voted Ohio state the best college team of all time. They have more wins than almost every team in history. They win the big ten almost every year. If Ohio state is not good then who is? Alabama? ?
@40:55 I disagree. Even Lincoln Riley said Arizona is the best offense they will face so far. This was before they played them. The record does not reflect that but it takes a balanced team to be good.
27:52 let me answer that for you Michigan's WR and play calling are getting worse. Michigan's passing game isn't a JJ McCarthy problem, it's a Matt Weiss, Sherrone Moore, and a WR problem
Michigan's out of conference schedule is looking a little bit better . . . UConn is now BOWL ELIGIBLE!!! I'd say Penn State was a test they passed, and Maryland has a pretty good offense.
I wish they'd all stop about the out of conference schedule. Clemson's was terrible. Alabama and the other big SEC teams out of conference are jokes too. Look who Alabama plays this week. No one said ANYTHING about the SEC teams and their crap out of conference schedules ever.
I'm really enjoying your show! Interesting analysis of the Pac-12. Historically, how has the Pac-12 stacked up against non-conference Power 5 teams? Not sure if this would also be an important yardstick for the conference. I agree though - not a lot of separation in the Pac.

Right now they are 2011 LSU, only difference is LSU dominated with their rushing attack and defense against ranked opponents.
I’m a Michigan fan but that is still one of my favorite story lines in the history of college football. Was cool to see how he took them all the way to a title that season after all those injuries.
As an Atlanta Falcons fan, I can’t give TCU’s defense all the credit for what we saw against Texas on Saturday. Sorry man. 2016 Falcons offense-2017 Falcons offense-2018 Falcons offense. That is all.
not really trying to start anything but who has Michigan played beside PSU at home? and PSU def cor said they tried too many "cutsy" things in the 2nd half and were behind too quick.
Michigan and Ohio state are good. Can we be honest with how Awful the Big 10 is as a conference this year? They feel like Clemson in recent years of not truly tested for most of the season.
As I've said before, I'm a longtime OSU fan. However, what I see in the Michigan Offensive Line run block play this year leads me to firmly believe that Michigan will defeat Ohio State. They won't lose a single game. I have them selected as the probable CFP champion. Their run blocking is tremendous. The Michigan passing is efficient on 5 to 10 yard passing, but not big play passes like Ohio State. I expect Michigan to dominate the line play and take that on from the OSU game all the way to the Big Ten and CFP championship. They have more than one excellent running back and dominate the clock with whoever they play with 40 to 50 carries per game.
The only thing I can counter that with is the level of competition Michigan has played. They struggle against decent teams in the first half then wear out the opposition in the second. With Ohio State, the talent is there to match the Michigan offense for the entire game. I will be interested to see how the Michigan defense plays against the Ohio State offense. If the Buckeyes are up by at least 10 points in the second half, the slow, run-focused offense won’t be able to chew up the clock.
@@joeyholskey706 Just boring. I mean SEC is where the elite football is played but I wanna hear about the entire country. I appreciate the PAC 12 love this year too.
Honestly we need to condense the power conferences to 4 with 16 teams in each conference. 8 per division. You play the 7 divisional games...top 2 from each division play. So 1 seed from west meets 2 seed from east and 1 seed from east meets 2 seed from west. The 2 winners play in conference championship...winner gets auto bid. It's fair and one loss doesn't eliminate anyone.
If Trey is 100% (as 100% you can be during the season) then you play him. Maybe on a pitch count but you play him. If it’s like 80/85% then no. You roll with Dallan and Chip. Go into The game with a healthy Treyveon and Miyan, and a potentially healthy JSN.
Michigan feels like a sec team in the 2010s. Also along with most of the big 10 focused on defense first on a lot of teams. In 5-10 years most of big 10 is getting better
OSU has to plan to target and open a different reciever(s) because Ttun will assume to double Harrison JR.. Hope we get Njigba back. would just complete this amazing offense! we havent been our best without him but were still dominant most of the time.
What is that argument about Marvin’s receiving numbers? That is the worst thing I’ve seen. Wouldn’t the more accurate stat to look at be his percentage points of receptions to overall completions? Starting with Rutgers to Indiana (not counting the game at northwestern because of its weirdness weather wise) 30%, 33%, 35%, 38% 41%. That looks like steady growth of an emerging super star. Well they can catch 50% of the time. That's been infuriating to me but I also think JJ has some lingering injury issues because for a few games they essentially took the Deep ball completely off the play calls.
@@fairtaxhtown yeh and he’s just missed on so many of those deep balls.
RIP to the Virginia students that lost their lives last night senselessly
Love your insight Joel!
I love how OSU doesn’t do anything newsworthy this week and yet Joel still spends 15 minutes talking about them
OSU gets more benefit of the doubt than any team for doing nothing SAD
@Choppa The game was 0% of what was discussed, so no. That doesn’t count for anything. Also, thanks for mentioning Michigan out of the blue.
@Choppa Not really. The transitive property doesn't work in college football. Ohio State has looked better against some teams than Michigan and worse against others (i.e., Penn State). Their game will be decided by Ohio State being home and by how they match up with each other, not how they matched up against common opponents.
@@strategicsage7694 spot on man
@@perfectsense3240 It’s because he called that OSU game dumbass…
Yep, i like the Wednesday idea. It would show that K-State would have a legitimate path to a 12 team playoff.
Not a chance ACC or even PAC 12 gets in now
@@basedindividual22 nope, but keep bringing people to salvation lol
I mean as long as TCU and Tennessee win out, the ACC will be out anyways
Georgia
Ohio/Michigan
TCU
Tennessee/USC
No Henderson, William and JSN no worries we’re still have Hayden, Johnson and Harrison Jr, Egbuka, Fleming first of all is CJ Stroud
Michigan has a tight gap scheme. OSU is trying to turn their running game into exactly what Michigan does. Potentially this makes it EASIER on the Michigan Defense because they are used to this.
Difference is sec teams like TN have tough schedules. Ohio state and Michigan play no one.
What’s the tough schedule Tennessee played compared to Ohio state & Michigan 😂? Let’s hear this ..
@@Christian_smith7 HAHAH! Yes! The quiet part said out loud. The SEC sings their own praises about how tough the competition is within the SEC. The only thing they really have above anyone else is the amount of $$ that is thrown out there for SEC teams. Advertisers love them apparently. The top teams, are good but not necessarily better than any other Power 5s. The rest, are simply the rest.
I think my favorite playoff scenario right now would have to be
1. Georgia vs 4. Michigan
2. Ohio State vs 3. Tennessee
A shootout vs a ground and pound…those games would be awesome
You think if Ohio State can score quickly and early, forcing Michigan to save time and pass, OSU wins, and if Michigan can keep it close, in the 2nd half, they'll bludgeon OSU to a 2nd half victory while killing the clock?
Michigan will prevail.
I’m a Michigan fan. I think you are right. Ohio St needs to win the first half to have a chance. If they put up more than 20 in the first half they got us. Otherwise we will ware ya down
@@TRIPMITCH33 Ohio State will not be that lucky.
@@TRIPMITCH33 The issue is I think both teams are 2nd half teams. It'll likely be close at halftime. Then it's just a matter of who adjusts better.
@@TRIPMITCH33 I disagree I'm not an ohio state fan but seen some games that ohio state has played. My question can Michigan keep a pace that will score points because if ohio state stops Corum they have good team but their team relies on Corum for things. So can they go at a slow pace to beat ohio state if they can't run as much as they normally do? I think it going to be a close game and no team will run away with it. If a team does I will be surprised
Love a great and long episode! Keep it up Joel!
Your in depth analysis never disappoints
You must study. A LOT. Good on ya
Literally talked about Ohio State and Michigan for the first 29 minutes of the show. There’s like 130 teams, spread the love a little
There is about 5 relevant teams at the moment though. Not to mention he talks about it a lot because he has called several games for each team and knows a lot more about them than most. He also will be calling The Game…so you can’t blame him for covering them
@@joeyholskey706 he didn’t talk about Alabama Ole Miss much, or Tulane UCF much, those games have implications on the rankings and NY6, and is the reason why LSU clinched the sec west. Not saying he needs to spend all day on it but he has horrible B10 bias despite the conference being down this year apart from Michigan/Ohio st
@@willmosinski9422 Bama and Ole miss was an irrelevant game…everyone knew LSU was gonna win the West, and no one cares about NY6 bowls right now, the actual playoffs are still the main focus right now, and two teams in the Big Ten are in the race for a playoff spot. If you want to hear someone blab about the SEC all day, then just head over to ESPN, where the SEC bias is mad
Oregon doing what they do best
The Sec is so overrated. LSU being number 7 is such a joke.
I believe JJ is dealing with a shoulder injury. They mentioned it a few weeks ago but said it only hurt when his technique is off. Since then attempts, accuracy and qb runs has been down.
I'M ROOTING FOR TCU .. & USC .. & CLEMSON TO KEEP WINNING ..
USC will go 11-1 and reach playoffs watch
You absolutely start Trevyon Henderson.
As the Cleveland Guardians taught us (albeit in baseball) starting Aaron Civale in gm 5, looking ahead for a potential atrategic advantage is extrememey short sighted. You always ensure you make it to the next game rather than overlooking your current opponent, rolling the dice and playing strategy.
He did it for Beibers health , same as Henderson heal up games not worth health

Almost a full hour of the Joel Klatt show😮💨🤌🏼
50 MINUTE VIDEO. And 15 minutes goes just to Ohio State. Joel, I love you. But you talk about OSU way too much. All those wins and talent and only 2 championships this millennia to show for it. Please, there was a lot of great football this weekend and 1/3 of the video was to a team that blew someone out…..
Lay off the weed! Ohio State has a championship in 2014 & 2002. They have 8 all together. How many teams have more???ESPN voted Ohio state the best college team of all time. They have more wins than almost every team in history. They win the big ten almost every year. If Ohio state is not good then who is? Alabama? ?
Name all the teams that are better than Ohio state the last 30 years. The list is short. You sound dumb. I’ll wait for you to write it out
@40:55 I disagree. Even Lincoln Riley said Arizona is the best offense they will face so far. This was before they played them. The record does not reflect that but it takes a balanced team to be good.
Lol to Joel's pac12 rant last week about UCLA
Dude really doesn’t like USC 😂

Michigan's WR and play calling are getting worse.
Hahahahah!
I wish they'd all stop about the out of conference schedule. Clemson's was terrible. Alabama and the other big SEC teams out of conference are jokes too. Look who Alabama plays this week. No one said ANYTHING about the SEC teams and their crap out of conference schedules ever.
A good offense wouldn’t score 0 points in a game
I'm really enjoying your show! Interesting analysis of the Pac-12. Historically, how has the Pac-12 stacked up against non-conference Power 5 teams? Not sure if this would also be an important yardstick for the conference. I agree though - not a lot of separation in the Pac.
Just because of his bias I hope tcu wins it all. Lol
TCU has won by the skin of their teeth to many times already. Lucks gotta run out eventually
@@cavtastic5691 if it was luck it would have run out already. Nobody is ever 10-0 due to luck. Idk why it’s always so hard for people to admit when TCU is good

If I’m Ohio State, I’m doing everything to stop the run and forcing UM to use that underutilized passing attack. I think Michigan is in for a long day when they play Ohio State. Right now they are 2011 LSU, only difference is LSU dominated with their rushing attack and defense against ranked opponents.

How bout them Buffs, Joel, 😂! Love the show.
Joel is now a true texas fan I see
the 12 team committee in the future should place a special emphasis on teams that have to play a 9 game conf. schedule for the at large bids
Cardale Jones taught me to trust the depth.
I’m a Michigan fan but that is still one of my favorite story lines in the history of college football. Was cool to see how he took them all the way to a title that season after all those injuries.
"They know that you know, and they don't care, they don't care at all!" 😂 -Klatt on Michigan's run game.

Is Jaxson Smith njigba coming back this season last years bowl game was insane
He may be back for Michigan, but my instincts tell me he is done.
O H
The only thing I can counter that with is the level of competition Michigan has played. They struggle against decent teams in the first half then wear out the opposition in the second. With Ohio State, the talent is there to match the Michigan offense for the entire game. I will be interested to see how the Michigan defense plays against the Ohio State offense. If the Buckeyes are up by at least 10 points in the second half, the slow, run-focused offense won’t be able to chew up the clock.
The PAC-12 overall from top to bottom is the second best conference behind the SEC.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

If JSN is back…❌ichigan better watch out
Michigan feels like a sec team in the 2010s.
One thing for sure, The Game is good for college football, and especially Big 10 football. Go Bucks!
Really not sure what’s alarming about that.
Exactly…he hasn’t had to “carry” the team at all…he has just been rising to levels that no one expected from week to week, he is gonna be very special
