Can't thank you enough. You are bringing the scriptures alive to me - never thought how much JSH 1:27-65 applied directly to me and my journey to become more like Christ. Thank you for the time and effort you devote to making it possible for us to be part of your class. My the Lord bless your efforts and all those who take part in these Come Follow Me lessons.

Brother Halverson, as a stay at home mother of 5 and a homemaker, these lessons that you have felt inspired to teach have truly given me a desire to better understand and immerse myself in scripture study and then share what I have learned with my husband and children. Those two words just don't seem to be enough for what you have taught me. 2 Corinthians 12 and Ether 12 have become even more beautiful and meaningful now that I understand the difference between weakness and weaknesses. They feel more personal, more something. I'm not conveying my thoughts the way I want to, but I know I feel the Spirit confirming truth taught. I love the way you teach, such a great command of the scriptures, coupled with your immense knowledge is inspiring. The only time I am able to watch your lessons is at night after my husband (a non member) and dogs go to bed so the house is quiet. I have come back to the church after more than 20 years of inactivity. I have so much to learn and like your student I often pause to read referenced verses, back up to listen again, make notes and think about what you have said. It takes longer to watch the entire lesson but well worth missing a little sleep. Thank you so much for your dedication to your calling to teach, your love of the gospel and willingness to plant seeds that help us grow,

I love this I feel like I am in a class and thank you for the message to our converts. I am a convert myself, all I remember, I was getting baptized at an early age, however we went inactive right away, my mom came from a Catholic background, she was baptized too, not sure she did it because my two older brothers joined the church. I remember as a kid I loved going to church, long story. When I was 16 our Stake President and his counselors came to our home inviting us to church, I was excited not knowing I was a member. My mother said no. When I was 18 years old I saw one of my older brother sneaking out of the house and I asked where are you going? My brother said shhh going to church, I said wait I am coming. When we got to church and entered I felt the most beautiful feeling, I knew then without no one testifying to me of the truth except for the spirit I knew the church was true. I found the Bishop and asked I wanted to be baptized, like ASAP lols. My sweet Bishop assured me I was from then on I felt like a new person and I thanked our Stake President for searching out the lost sheep. Has my life been perfect? No lols, however I can testify that Heavenly Father is there when we need him, and yes he will try us and good thing for the heads up because I would be so lost without the Gospel.

This morning as I was reviewing a note I had written in my scripture that Joseph Smith is the first messenger mentioned in Malachi 3:1 ( also discussed by Jared in this lesson), I realized that Joseph Smith is like John the Baptist...he was to prepare the way before the Lord’s (2nd) Coming. Joseph had several similarities to John the Baptist including being a martyr, living a rough (difficult) life, crying in the wilderness, etc.
Also, last night just before going to sleep I briefly read a verse in JS-H 1:57. It was Joseph and Emma’s 194th wedding anniversary yesterday.

This lesson was very personal to me for some reason. I had to stop several times to just breathe and ponder what you said, then rewind and listen again and again. Thank you for sacrificing so much to teach us the gospel from the scriptures. This was a WOW lesson for me.I just want more.

I love the questions you ask throughout your lessons. Every lesson is such an insightful 2 hours for me. I just found your channel at the start of this year and I’ve already had so many impressions, so much enlightenment, and I am in constant awe at things I am learning for the first time, even though I have studied the Doctrine and Covenants many times before. I was actually listening to your lesson on the first vision while cleaning my bathroom. It was awesome to be scrubbing the floor and washing the sinks and counters with tear filled eyes as you shared the story and as the spirit touched my heart and enlightened my mind. “What do you know that God knows you know because he’s the one who revealed it to you.” WOW! Such a cool question to reflect on. LOVED that!! I thank you, Jared, for sharing these lessons with us each week. I have been sharing your channel with Everyone!! Dear Brother Halverson. One of the biggest blessings for me coming out of COVID is you. I enjoy so much listening to you that even though I live in Switzerland I can go for a walk with your words in my ears. Today when I listened to you explaining posterity, promised land and priesthood and the ultimate goal of the earthly experience, it made me cry. My testimony of Jesus Christ goes so deep and it defines my life. I love going to the temple to celebrate my covenants and receive the strength for my everyday life. However my husband hasn't made the step yet to be baptized so I am not married in the temple. I am not sealed to receive posterity, promised land and priesthood. The words "in vain" made me think. Please don't stop talking "to me" in what ever chair or proximity to the camera you choose to do it in. Thank you

    • @Unshaken
      @Unshaken  4 роки тому +5

Thank you so much, Sister Hess. It's an honor to accompany you on your walks--though I wish I had your view of the beautiful Swiss landscape along the way! And I'm sure that your example is doing more good in your marriage than you may realize. It's charity that never faileth, and as long as that is there, there is room for faith and hope to grow in time. There are so many parts to the equation--a person's background and upbringing, their culture and environment, their mental outlook and spiritual gifts, their experiences and perceptions of those experiences--so there's no need to pass "final judgment" before the Lord does. There is always hope! As I've often told my students, permanent bad news is against my religion!

Your husband may be growing spiritually in ways he doesn’t even understand, Sis. Hess. Keep living the gospel and showing love in everything you do. That will make the atmosphere right for him to change when the time is right. At a recent funeral I heard that the non-member husband had recently developed a testimony of Jesus Christ and his gospel as he knew it. He was progressing and was at peace at the time of his death. I have no doubt that he will accept the gospel and the ordinances in the future. There is always hope!

Brother Jared thank you so much I have always been hot and cold in the church, and have not done much research in the old testament. I’ve always wondered what the governments and the promises were and could never seem to put my finger on them. You’ve made it simple and I’m so glad. Prosperity. Promised land. And priesthood. What a great blessing. I noticed a lot of people talking about the sound and I’m hearing you just fine. Thanks for all you do

The three blessings of God's covenant with Abraham were Priesthood, Inheritance or Promised Land and Increase as numerous as the stars or Posterity...descendence...children. It's easy to mix up posterity with prosperity. But that too is implied in the inheritance portion or Promised land part of the blessing. It's a lot to wrap your head around, huh. Good stuff! I love Brother Halverson's videos!!!!

What I enjoy most about these presentations is the line by line examination of the scriptures, instead of a theme overview which generally occurs in our lesson plans. Themes are helpful and probably essential, but the line by line presentation exemplifies the power of pondering. Thank you Jared. I listen a bit daily to stimulate my own discoveries.

I loved many teachings from this lesson, but the two that stood out to me are 1. Musing, marveling, meditating, pondering... how many times I checked the box - read scriptures - done and moved on with my day and haven’t pondered. 2. That I need to protect and preserve my testimony, and not be careless or neglectful about it and be aware of the forces that will attack it. Thank you for the effort you put into your videos each week.

Your early comments reminded me of this:
“There is loneliness-but a man of your kind has to live with his conscience. A man has to live with his principles. A man has to live with his convictions. A man has to live with his testimony. Unless he does so, he is miserable-dreadfully miserable. And while there may be thorns, while there may be disappointment, while there may be trouble and travail, heartache and heartbreak, and desperate loneliness, there will be peace and comfort and strength.” Gordon B Hinckley

Jared, This is related to your comment about Moroni's feet not touching the ground or being soiled by the world. I think you touched on something so profound, that eludes us physical beings.
I have had many occasions, to talk about something closely related in regard to our bodies. Having been made from the "dust of the earth", I don't think many of us realize the depth of that connection. We are, until the resurrection, physically and inseparably tied to this earth. It is, in part, why we struggle with the "natural man" in the ways we humans can.
I suffer from a physical disability that sometimes renders me fully incapacitated and has sometimes allowed me experiences of the spirit that crystallize both the differences and the intertwining of the spiritual and physical.
I have often reflected on what we will be like when we are no longer bound to the earth, but are made of such delicate (as related to structure; of intricate workmanship or quality. Such as "a spider's web, strong yet delicate"), and exceptional spiritual matter!
Thank you for shining a light.

Just found your channel, what a brilliant teacher you are. I have been looking for theological style teaching of the scriptures. I studied in this style using scholarly thoughts and historical context for the synoptic gospels and St.Johns gospel. With an analytical dive into the particular lexis used, and the choices by the authorship. So it has answerd my prayers finding these lessons, and to have something similar for our church's scripture- thank you.

If anyone is interested - there is an ensign article that discusses the possible “other passages of scripture”(JSH 1:41) that Moroni quoted to Joseph Smith. It’s in the August 1990 Ensign issue “Moroni’s Message to Joseph Smith” by Kent P. Jackson. I have loved studying this weeks lesson with you, Brother Halverson! Thank you!!!

    Brother Jared,
Again thank you for your time and energy.
As to our being tried by God:
My dad was at heart a “dirt farmer”, one who started out behind a mule team.
He took a different tack on trials: God knows how Abraham, and I, will respond to any trial. It was Abraham. , and I, who need to know how we will respond.
