I disagree with this activist's reason that "dignity" is the reason for marriage. No. The reason for marriage are all the legal rights and societal recognition of the relationship that marriage provides. NOTHING short of marriage will provide that. So yes, we need marriage
Does it have to be one or the other? Why can't it be about both - about legal rights AND ALSO about dignity? I know when US legalized same-sex marriage, the court opinion of course talked about legal rights but the verdict talked over and over and over again about dignity and equal dignity. The opinion is littered with the word dignity in it.
