This is actually a cover of a song that is called Manhattan Serenade by Leon Russell. The Dutch part of the song are “new” lyrics written by the band and reference lots of places around the city of Rotterdam. The band still exists and is still doing gigs on a regular basis.
I met these guys midsummer 2014 in Hellevoetsluis in a bar called 'Barbiertje'. Good music, made a talk with them. Nice humble people. The stratocaster is a 1963.

Yes, I love the song, a golden oldie. When it was a hit I was to young to notice it. But every year, at the end of the year we have a top 2000 where people can give their favoriet top 10 of all time in the Netherlands, and every year this song is listed in it. That's how I heard the song for the first time. I love it, it's slowmusic in a fast world. ❤
Some 40 years ago two of them (with a guitar and a bass painted in rainbow colours) used to perform on the streets of Rotterdam, and I would watch them on my lunchbreak and forget to get something to eat... 🙂 Good memories...
Never heard of them, but this was very pleasant indeed. Plenty of bands had this kind of vibe around this era, or a bit earlier - but this guys have a great groove, and lovely sound. Very surprised by this - so thanks to the requestor and obviously to our highly talented reactor.

Thank you so much, this was really a blast from the past. I lived near Rotterdam at the time. Used to shop with my two year old daughter and always stop and listen to these two buskers. My daughter now has a three year old daughter herself!
The drummer, Louis Debij, who you can hear in numerous Dutch hit songs, has sadly passed away. The singer and keyboard player of the band, Wim Kerkhof, still performs as The Amazing Stroopwafels with another partner, Rien de Bruin, plus the guitar player from the clip, Arie van der Graaf. When they perform in the theatre the bass player from the clip, Koos Pakvis, joins in, as well as drummer Hans Greeve. The singer with the acoustic guitar in the clip is Fred Piek. Shortly after this 'Oude Maasweg' success, Wim and Fred split. Fred went on to perform acoustically, with his own songs. He had had a remarkable success already in the seventies with the Dutch folkrock group Fungus, in which Koos Pakvis and Louis Debij also played. In 2019 Wim Kerkhof's son Merlijn wrote a very good band biography about The Amazing Stroopwafels. In Dutch. In the beginning of the group's existence The Amazing Stroopwafels sang in both English and Dutch. Eventually the band stuck to own songs almost all in Dutch. And a lot of these songs deal with topographical and historical subjects.

I have that one o an Vinyl Album autographed (my mum handed it down to me)😍😍😍 Seen them live many times. 1 time in Rotterdam at least and many times at a café in the village I was born and grew up in. It's Ships Bell (Scheepsbel) by the way.
I have the vinyl album autographed, too. I bought it backstage after a concert. I gave them a mint as a "thank you". Lots of laughter. Really nice guys.
I think you would appreciate Raccoon as well. Especially the Dutch song 'Oceaan' which is a very emotional song about hard times and finding comfort with your loved ones. ❤️
