- How we swapped our double seat for a single swivel seat,opening up so much space in our self built van canversion

Most of this is used to keep emilys snack cupboard topped up but occasionally she lets Lou have

Just got a seat with base for my old transit from the scrap yard for 40 quid, yes it's the drivers side but with the base it fits the passenger side and then reverse the seatbelt attachment, put in swivels for another 229 quid for the pair from Seaside camper, you can do this for a lot less. tons of stuff at the scrap yards if you look.
The single seat really opens up the van! Nice balanced view looking from the inside of the van too :)

@@campervibe all done for mine. It was a drivers seat so need to grind off the seat belt receiver bracket and swap over, again your video made the process easier for me 🤘😃🤘
The cable could be seatbelt warning alarm if you have not had a light on the dashboard or an audible alarm your particular model did not have the system fitted, most vehicle manufacturers use a standard wiring loom across a model range so all they have to do is plug in the accessories needed such as seatbelt warning alarm or heated seats are
most excellent. bought the single seat swivel thing and was going to shell out for a mechanic to do it but now? pffft.. easy peasy. just need a few voddys down my neck first and then what could possibly go wrong?

Useful as I have just brought my passenger seat and I haven't to tool to get it out and hadn't a clue. Now to amazon to get a set., 👍👍

It's for the seat belt tensioner thas is connected to the air-bag system, hence the yellow connector.
You must have a seat belt tensioner if you have a air-bag so the air-bag doesn't blow up in your face in case of a crash.

Really helpful video, you come across really well. Nice to see someone else learning as they go. We are just converting a boxer l3h2, so I'm glad we found your channel. Had to bite the bullet and order a single seat at an extortionate price. Fingers crossed it's not chewed to bits when it gets here 🤞🏻 also went with the two sportscraft centre swivels as we want to keep the space between the seats for a small removable table. @@campervibe very rewarding. Just watched your electrics video. It can be pretty confusing. Used a site called 12voltplanet which has some really useful basics on their knowledge centre. Not sure if you earthed your battery to the chassis? Can save a lot on cable runs if you have.
@@michaelemeny5184 12v planet are great, really helpful on the phone to. I took all my negatives back to the fuse box bus bar, so that if there's ever a problem it's easily found rather than trying to dig around behind the walls looking for the ground point.

A new passenger base is £180, seats from salvage yard £100, swivel plate is approx £50, anyone who goes anywhere near £600 has been ripped off, you can also cut base to fit if you can work with metal. Good luck though.

Hey guys! Great video, now doing exactly this in our van, luckily managed to pick up a single seat for just £30 plus like £100 postage. :) My question was, did you find out what that cable is for?
I've seen some videos where people say it connects to the airbag. But like yours, ours doesn't actually connect into anything :)
Hi there, I believe it's something to do with the seat belt pre tensioner, which can affect the air bag or the warning system for it. If like ours tho yours is disconnected then there's no need to worry about it. On the drivers side ours was connected tho so that one was trickier.

@@CazzyandBradley no worries, I can't remember now as it was such a long time ago but I think a lot of these vand sont have an airbag on the passenger side anyway, like I say, I could be talking garbage but some vague memory from somewhere is popping up.

We got it from a private individual. It was hard to find on in good condition, they're expensive I'm afraid! Good luck with yours.

Hi, no we found it on ebay from a chap who just happened to have one. They're not easy to find lol.
It’s a shame you didn’t buy new I have a single seat in my boxer van for work it was a no cost option plus I had an air bag fitted at the same time not sure if the double seat has one
New would have cost way too much for us lol! There was no airbag on our double seat, so still no airbag on our passenger seat. Thanks for watching 😁👍
camper vibe yes I understand that I had electric folding mirrors fitted also best option ever be careful down the narrow lanes, looked in on you to see if there were any problems taking out the bulkhead as I need a bit more length to carry worktops mine is only a L1H1
@@travelswithbilbo7526 the bulkhead was pretty straight forward to take out to be fair, can be done in about half hour.
I dropped lucky with my single seat, brand new £200, just before the popularity of these Vans exploded. Crazy prices these days, a good alternative is to buy a lowered seat base and the CTA swivel and use after market seats.
I know, they are a complete rip off, even the after market ones aren't cheap anymore!!
+1 for the lowered base. Without the swivel the drivers seat was just a touch too high on its lowest setting. With the lowered base and CTA swivel its now perfect at a net 1" lower...and it now swivels.
Just a double swivel base is 295.
Is it?? We didn't even look at the double, our single base was about £140 and the seat itself was a ridiculous price! Campervan stuff is like wedding stuff, bloody extortionate lol!!
@@campervibe I needed 6 seats with proper seat belts. Plus a eating area for all 6, so having captain chairs for both sides was brilliant. Also it opened up the front part of the van which I didn't have originally. Can be a bit cramped but managed to get 6 beds in.

Haha, yes we r married lol. Nothing wrong with up front lol. We r loving doing our second van, learnt so much from the first one that we now know exactly what we want.

Ours is a bit small and old for 3 of us and 2 dogs but it's perfect for 2 and maybe one dog. We shall see what the future holds. I think so far its a Relay/Ducato/Boxer that's ticking my boxes but we shall see. Good luck and will continue watching your build with interest :)

Wow that’s expensive. Would have been cheaper to buy a set of front seats from something like a BMW and fabricate it.
If I had the know how I may have done but didn't want to take the risk of messing with safety as not crash tested if modified to fit in this vehicle.
