EASY SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE ~ PERFECT FOR CUT OUT COOKIES
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- This recipe makes a simple but versatile vanilla sugar cookie with only a few ingredients and no fancy techniques. The dough is easy to work with, you'll be able to roll & cut with ease and they are bound to be the perfect 'go to' cookie recipe for any holiday cookies 👌💖
This recipe requires chilling your dough, and yes I know, chilling is a pain....BUT rest assured that your patience will be paid off afterwards. I found chilling my cookie dough before and after cutting really helps to prevent spreading during baking. It also makes your dough very easy to manage when it comes time to roll it out and to cut out with perfect defined edges....so trust me when I tell you that it is well worth the wait! 😋👍💖
📌NOTE: makes approx 2 dozen of cookies (depending on cutter sizes)
💠 INGREDIENTS:
175 grams icing sugar/powdered sugar [US Conversion: 1 ½ Cups]
225 grams salted butter (room temperature) [US Conversion: 2 Sticks or 1 Cup]
1 egg (room temperature)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or any flavour your prefer)
1 teaspoon baking powder
420 grams all-purpose flour [US Conversion: 3 ¼ Cups]
💠 INSTRUCTIONS:
▪ Cream together butter and icing sugar.
▪ Add eggs and vanilla extract and mix well.
▪ Sift together flour & baking powder, add to the mixture little by little until well incorporated.
▪ Wait approximately 30 - 60 mins before working with the dough as it will firm up slightly.
▪ Roll the dough between baking paper and put it into the fridge for a few hours this will help prevent spreading. When the dough is a bit firmer, take it out of the fridge and cut into desired shapes (lightly dust with flour if necessary).
▪ Place the cut out cookie dough into a baking tray then put it into the fridge again for another 1-2 hours, this will also help prevent spreading.
▪ Bake cookies at 180° Celsius for approx 10-12 minutes (times may vary slightly depending on your oven). Note: Each oven is different, I would recommend you get to know your oven and adjust the time accordingly.
📌 USEFUL TIPS for making perfect sugar cookies:
🔸 Ensure that you ALWAYS use room temperature butter, in the video i have shown you how to check if your butter have reached the correct room temperature, I can't stress enough on how important this is! Test your butter by pressing it, they should give slightly but it should still hold its shape. If you use butter that have melted too much and too soft you will end up with a dough that is too soft and hard to work with.
🔹 When its time to cut your cookie dough, make sure to keep your cuts as close together to get as many cookies out of your dough as possible. I usually divide my dough into half before rolling them (you would have seen this in my video) and when it comes to re-rolling your scraps after your first cut, I usually add the second half from my un-rolled dough with the scraps and knead them together, then re-roll and cut again.
🔸 Chill your dough if you want a perfect cut out cookies with define edges. I can't tell you how much chilling really helps my dough to retain they shape and prevent spreading, so for those of you who are impatient out there....if you want perfect cut out cookies I'm afraid you will have to wait and practice being patient LOL

now if only we could get the recipe in cups instead of grams lol. Love to make it but these google conversions don't seem to add up for me
Hi Suzanne, I just added the US measurements in brackets to make it easier for you, please check the recipe in my description box, hope that helps 😉👍💖
and YOU mam are amazing....thank you very much!!!
aww you are so welcome, always happy to help whenever I can 💕😘
Suzanne Colon so true I’m stuck too
Hi Vy Nguyen, please check the recipe in my description box, I have added the US measurements in brackets to make it easier, hope that helps 👍
These are the most perfect cookies I’ve ever seen in my life
Ur conversions for the US down to all the description in the bar below the video is the best! Thank you for that!
You are so welcome, glad to hear its helpful for you 😉🙌💖
Rolling between parchment paper is genius!!
Thank You so SO so much for this recipe. And for Your great work on this channel. My cookies came out picture perfect. I am so impressed by the result. No spreading whatsoever. Also it was easy to eyeball the baking time. Thank You for such a fabulous recipe. Also it was really helpful that You were showing the consistency, the thickness, etc. Your tips were so helpful as well. I never could bake a pretty cookie before. Your channel is awesome!!! ❤ 🍪🌸
*Also a tip from me for Your subscribers - I made the dough, chilled for 2 hours, cut out the cookies and put them in the fridge overnight. Then I’m the morning I put them STRAIGHT in the oven on the same baking sheet they were on (so it was cold). And my cookies were perfect. This is for people like me, who didn’t have enough time to do it in one day and were wondering if chilling dough overnight would affect the result (it doesn’t)
The cookies look absolutely delicious, and you were so thorough in teaching us. Thank you!!! Best wishes from Santiago de Chile
You are so welcome Tita! My pleasure to share with you, and warm greetings from New Zealand 😘🙌💖

So glad you're in NZ, now I can get the exact same ingredients and tools as you.
Hai. Im just find ur recipe after I feel failed to make it with my recipe book. I will try yours next time.
Thank You from Jakarta.
you are welcome Nikola, i hope my recipe works well for you. Please let me know how you go 😉👍💖
finally find a recipe with salted butter!! it's so hard and expensive to get unsalted butter in my country:( thank u very much for this! I'll try this recipe for sure
Is it ok if I put my dough into the refrigerator overnight and then bake it the next morning?
The recipe is amazing! I loved the fact that you actually described how it's suppose to feel after you mix all the ingredients in. Thank you so much! My dough looks great right now but it is quite hard. Should I wait for 30 minutes at room temperature before baking them? Again thank you for this recipe, I hope that this turns out great! 😁🤩👍🏻
Hey sweetie, I dont wait until the dough goes into room temperature...in fact i think the dough will retain the shape more if they are chilled and hard when they go into the oven. My cut-out cookie dough goes straight from the fridge into the oven to bake and they always come out amazing 😉👍💞
Oh I see, my cookies turned out amazing! They were absolutely delicious! Thank you for this recipe! 🤤🥰
I made this recipe and I can tell you: it's the best recipe for this type of cookie, I loved it and for sure also I recommend it!

@@CookieliciousNZ yes indeed I am a Kiwi and I will definitely be hanging around!!! love your ideas, so inspirational. I'm based in Auckland, and it is a relief to see information based on places and ingredients I can source easily and not have to wonder if it matches an American equivalent.
wow..now this cookies looks really smooth 😁😁😁 i love the texture.
hi, I love your recipe, and I have tried it. I just change a bit of your method, I don't used mixer, instead I used hand whisk and I'm blend it only until it's even. Therefore, I don't have to Chill my dough in the fridge over and over, just 1 time and around 15 minutes before I'm baked it🤭 and the shape is still good.
Anyway, Pardon me if my English is sucks, I'm still learning it🙏🏻
Love from Indonesia😘
Halo Astri, wah ternyata bisa juga yah bikin resep ini gak pake mixer....bagus deh kalo bisa, aku gak pernah coba karena kalo aku bikin cookie dough tuh sekalian banyak jadi bisa copot tangan kalo gak pake mixer hahaha 😅😁 Thank you for letting me know that you can bake the recipe without using a mixer! I'm so glad the shape hold really well! Warm greetings from New Zealand! Ps: Aku dari Indonesia juga tapi sudah lama tinggal di New Zealand 😉💖🙌

ohhh how exciting!! Do let me know how you go hun....would love to know how you find it 👍😍💖 I hope the baking and decorating will go smoothly 😉
@Janelle Mcfarlane Hi hun, a few people have posted in the comments sections after they try the recipe, feel free to scroll thru and have a quick browse before testing the recipe 😉👍💖 Oh just bear in mind that this recipe produce a soft cookies and not the crunchy ones, my family loves the soft sugar cookies so that's what i usually make 😁💖💞
@Janelle Mcfarlane I made the recipe as close as possible, but each all purpose flour has an absorption property, for the brand I used I needed to put a little more flour. The cookie was extremely delicious, so I highly recommend the recipe. I rarely follow recipes, because when we have a sense of cooking, we can change the recipe a little bit.
Oh it's very yummy😋😍😊👍❤️
Thanks Natalia 😍!!! Siempre se aprende contigo, mil gracias 💕💕

hey sweetie, im crossing my fingers that you will find 'the one' lol 😁😋👍💖
meeeeee toooooo! I have an 100+ year old family recipe that we made cut out cookies from. But, we didn't decorate them. We call them Old Fashion Tea Cakes but I've NEVER found the exact recipe written. That is my benchmark for a great tasting cookie...not too sweet...but can be enjoyed without icing...and crisp edges and medium soft center. Only problem...it rises and spreads because of baking soda. Every time I make them, I try something different but haven't found the perfect solution. I've tried lots of other recipes too, but none are as good. I'm going to try this one...mostly because of the powdered sugar. Here's to hoping for an amazing cookie...just sweet enough but not too sweet, no rise, no spread!
Thank you! Looks great! 👍👍👍👍💐💐💐👏
you are welcome my sweet friend 😉💖🙌
@@CookieliciousNZ 😍💐❤️
I have tried a few different recipes now and yours is my favourite! One question, I’ve frozen some of my dough in freezer bags. When ready to bake, should I leave in bag at room temperature until almost thawed? Or how do you do it? Thanks so much! ❤️

Se ve muy buena!!
de nada mi dulce amigo, es un placer compartir contigo 💞😘🙌
Wow! I really found this video interesting and I really wanna try it out. As of now don't have electric mixer yet .. can I use hand mixer for making the batter??
Can add 2tsp of coffee vanilla creamer instead of the vanilla extract? It’s a game changer in cakes , I wonder if it would be in sugar cookies as well😊
I don’t see the recipe written?? I want to try this so badly!!! I bet they are so good and light. Recipe reminds me of a sand tart I made as a teen
I just love your channel and tutorials !!! 🖤 would this recipe be the same for your cookie sticks ? Like the Halloween ones ? What type of cookie cutter do you use for those ? Thank you again for the amazing tutorials!
Trying these out today and tomorrow! 🌈🌌✨❄️🕯☀️
They turned out exactly as expected!! No unpleasant surprises and the end result is perfect!! Thank you so much ☀️☀️☀️
These look so good. Going to try them today. Do you know what the shelf life is for these cookies?
Hi Jennifer, sugar cookies should last a few weeks, depending on how you store them. I usually heat-sealed my cookies individually in a cellophane bag, which keeps the cookies fresh for longer. If you don't have a heat-sealer then I would highly recommend storing them in an airtight container with parchment paper in between layers 😊
Hi dear...i tried this recipie...it cesout awesome..all my friends liked it n gave orders...can i skip egg for eggless cookies?
Hi Natalia, new subscriber here from PH! I definitely love your cookies and arts for them ❤️👍 i made some of these but it turns out that my cookies are soft and after I let them overnight to rest to decorate and flood the royal icing (I use meringue powder) I didn’t harden and it’s soft too (I don’t have a dehumidifier machine instead I use an airtight container with a food grade dehumidifier silica gel).
It’s hot and humid here in my place and it’s raining when I made them 😭, do you think that’s one of the main reason it didn’t come out right? I followed all the instruction aside from putting it in a humidifier machine.
Thanks and more cookie arts to come 🍪
Hi Mary, Im sorry to hear the cookies didn't turn out so well, i have to ask if the dough was super soft when you are in the process of cutting them? If you are in a hot & humid condition I would highly recommend putting your cookie dough in the fridge before & after cutting them into shape as well as before baking. you will benefit from it specially if you are in a hot room or a humid country. I'm not sure what you mean by dehumidifier....i only use a dehydrator, so im presuming you meant a dehydrator? A dehydrator is useful to dry out the top layer of your icing, but it doesn't affect the texture or condition of your cookies.
If you find the cookie dough super soft (even before cutting them into shapes) I need to check if you are using the correct room temperature butter? If your butter is too soft or have melted it will affect the texture of your cookie dough.
Your stand mixer looks cool😄
Good job😍👌
Best recipe! ❤
Hi great video! Do you believe a hand mixer would work just as well or would you suggest a hand mixer
Lindas galletas y buena masa
muchas gracias por tus amables palabras mi dulce amigo 😊💖🙌
Hello I know this video is a little old just hoping I’ll still get a reply from you 🤞🏻 I’ve tried so many sugar cookie recipes and I find using powder sugar gives the cookies the best taste for me personally. I’m having problems when I make these though one the dough comes out a bit crumbly. Two when I bake them the top will look cracked or like bubbly idk how else to describe it I do use a fondant smoother which helps but then there’s also the spreading that I’m trying to avoid so I’ve added cornstarch to my recipe I don’t know if this messes it up or what. And finally when I bake them the sides look like layers not all smooth like yours. I hope you can help me out I’m loosing my mind trying to perfect this recipe because I love the taste so much! By the way I cover my cookies in fondant so I really don’t want them to spread. Thank you!! Hoping you’ll reply 😉🤞🏻
Thank you for posting this. It is so very helpful! You're a wonderful teacher!
You are so welcome! 💖🙌😉
Looks so delicious 😀 can I make double ingredients when I have large order with out lossing consistency or flavor ????
About how many cookies does this recipe make? I love your channel and can't wait to bake these!
Hi memory, this recipe makes approx 2 dozen of cookies, however this depends on the size of the individual cookies that you are cutting the dough into 😉👍💞
Hai. I’m so in love with your recipe.. 😘 can’t wait to try and have the same result as yours. I have a question. If we put the balance in the fridge (the balance of the dough with parchment paper), the dough will tough to roll in right? So how long it’s take to roll the dough back from the fridge? Thank you,
Hi Noor, it doesnt take long for the dough to soften into room temperature after you take it out of the fridge (it will take longer to soften from the Freezer), mine usually take 10-15 mins then it will be soft. I usually like to cut them into shape when the dough is firmer/slightly harder so that I get cleaner lines and sharp edges. Hope that helps 😉👍💖
Thank you for reply 😘😘😘

Hi Liza! Your cookies are great and I often bake with your recipe. Please advise is it possible to bake and decorate the cookies in advance? And to keep them in a fridge than for a week?
hello, i just need to let you know that my name is Natalia and not Liza 😜 anyway to answer your question, yes you can bake and decorate in advance, i do that all the time as I always juggling priorities and often pressed for time, so I usually make & decorate the cookies a few weeks in advance, i store them in the freezer but ensure to heat-sealed them in an individual cellphone bag then put them inside an air-tight container (this will be a double protection against freezer burn). 📍NOTE: it is very important to know, please DO NOT put completed decorated cookies in the fridge, you need to store them in the FREEZER instead. If you put your completely decorated cookies in the fridge all your hard work decorating will be damaged. The freezer will keep them intact and fresh. Also note that the shelf life of decorated cookies will be suspended while they are in the freezer so you can keep them in there for a few months.Hope that helps 😊
Natalia , sorry for calling you wrong 🙈 many thanks for your detailed answer!!! Since I need 20 pcs of cookies for the 21th Dec and a birthday cake and I wished to make the cookies with your recipe, because they are really great and delicious 😋 and I was worried about how to keep them fresh. 😉many thanks 😊 I love your channel and how you do it 🥰❤️ thanks for your answer!!!
Natalia, and how go you unfreeze the decorated cookies? At room temperature or in the fridge? How much time it’s required to unfreeze the cookies?
hello my sweet friend, simply leave the cookies inside their packaging (do not take them out of the cellophane bag) and place them on your kitchen bench at room temperature for a couple of hours to let them thaw 🙂
Thank you!!!
Hello dear this looks great can i skip the egg ?
Or
Replace it ?
I adore your channel and love to watch such a talented artist at work. You have inspired me to start decorating my own cookies. One tiny suggestion: the techno music on your vids is really distracting and anxiety producing when I’m trying to follow your tutorials. If you could find some nice soft music to accompany your lessons, it would kick up your vids from great to 💯 % perfect. Just a thought...I can always mute 🤐❤️🌵🍓🍒
Hi AvieMare, thank you so much for your feedback. I always try to find the right music but because we all have different preference its hard to find one that suit everyone 😊 I also always try to support my fellow artist and the music I used are from a friend who is also a talented musician. Please feel free to mute the music if you find it distracting. I will keep your feedback in mind for future videos 😉💖🤗
Made these... They turned out awesome.. quick question though, how to store them after baking for decorating the next day so it stay fresh?
you could try to put them in your fridge
Guys,I did 100 grams less than she said in a recipe, and it’s kinda really smooth.. smoother than on a video, should I add more when I will roll it?
Hi :) what are the steps of using the stored left over cookie dough after taking it out of the freezer? Do I let it unfreeze in room temperature for some time? Or put it in the fridge first? Thanks!
I also need to know!! Please!!
hello! thank you so much for your videos! I'm venturing into the cookie making world and I never get tired of watching your videos! Question: Can you over-chill the dough? Or is it okay if I do mostly everything the night before, chill the cut outs over night, and bake them in the morning?
Also.. Can you put them in the freezer to speed up the process?
Hi Michelle, the answer is YES to all of your questions 😁 I do that sometimes when I ran out of time...left the cut out dough in the fridge and bake the day after. I usually make my dough at night so if i get too tired or its too late to bake, i put all my trays into the fridge and bake the day after. OR if you don't have too much time in your hands, use the freezer to speed up the chilling process, you don't have to put it in there for long but it works really well to retain their shape, hope that helps! 😉💖👍

Hi awesome and very helpful recipe can I please be advices of what i can use to substitute the egg? Need a reply asap. Thanks

Hope that helps! 😉👍💖

Jaką żywotność ( ile czasu mam na zjedzenie ) maja ciastka po upieczeniu i ozdobie ?
Hi! New subscriber here! I have a question, when it says to put the dough in the fridge for “a few hours”, is 2 hours okay? Or does it need more time?
Great video! Im definitely going to try this. I don’t have a paddle attachment to my mixer and it’s an unknown brand so I can’t buy one for it. Will the hook or whisp attachment work as well? Thanks in advance
Hi hun, I think you should be fine using the whisk attachment...I usually use the hook attachment for making bread, haven't tried it for making cookie dough so I can't comment on that. I specifically use my whisk attachment ONLY to make my royal icing and I don't use it for making the cookie dough as I dont want to risk any oil contamination for my icing (from the butter when making the dough), but if you want to use the same attachment to make both just make sure clean it really well and maybe rinse it with lemon juice before using the same attachment to make your icing. Hope that helps 😉💖👍
Great video and I guess you are a perfectionist! I am going to try your cookies and update you on the result! Finally I can get rid of the powdered sugar I have which I hardly use! haahaa

whats the difference in using icing sugar compared to granulated sugar for the cookie recipe?
Can you use unsalted butter & if yes how much salt would need to be added to have them turn out correctly.
Como hiciste para que las galletas quedarán completamente planas en la superficie?
Hi, I'm planning to make these cookies today, just wanted to know is it ok to chill the dough before rolling then out? As it's very warm and humid in my country. As if it's oki how long do you think I should chill it before rolling it out and chilling. Thank you so much .
the cookie's taste isn't salty? because of the salted butter? or should I use an unsalted one?
Hi Tai, very good question but nope it doesnt taste salty at all as the salt actually balance the flavour in the cookie, however its a matter of personal preferences as I know a few bakers that only use unsalted butter 😊 I would encourage you to give it a try, however if you want to do a test maybe do half a batch with salted and another half with unsalted butter and see which one you prefer the taste of 😉👍😋
Hi. Is it okay not to use a mixer?
It will be really hard to make this without a mixer, I suspect you will struggle so much with it. If you have a hand mixer you might be able to get away with using that but its very hard to make without a mixer. 😊
Love this. What kind of mixer and model do you have.
Hi Norman, thank you so much for your kind words 😊 My mixer is Breville Bakery Boss in Champagne colour 😉🙌💖

Hey...I know you can't replace egg in all recipe.....but after reading so many of the comments I just can't resist making...will milk or flaxseed be a good option, please reply and if so what is the quantity to be used.
Hi Manjula, if you are making the cookies for someone with egg alergies or someone who cannot have eggs, then you can substitute the egg with 2 teaspoons of Orgran Egg Replacer, this is the one i usually use: www.orgran.com/products/no-egg-egg-replacer/ Hope that helps! 😉💖
Just saw this and would like to give it a try. I have a question tho. Does it taste like coconut-y? The recipe I used tastes like I put some coconut flour in there but I did not.
Hi Monica, definitely doesn't taste like any coconut cookies, i haven't heard anyone give me that feedback about this cookie recipe so i think it should be fine 😊 let me know how you go if you give this recipe a go 😉👍💖
