I have a 1976 Continental 10 speed I bought new. It has the chrome front forks and is painted metallic silver but looks like yours. I converted it to an upright. I'm a tall guy so I got the 26" frame.
thanks
i have this bike ride it every day
100 bucks back then. The Paramount was 350.
Had a 73 continental. Good solid frame to restore.
Does this have the Aluminum frame ???? Did the early 70s continentals ever have steel frame? thanks Thinking of buying one.
Connie's were heavy steel flash welded. The next one up the line was the Super Sport. Thin walled ChroMo tubing, fillet brazed and made in the Paramount shop. Look for the round badge.
I just picked up the same bike I put air in the tires and took it for a ride I was very impressed I really like these older bikes brings me back to my youth lol.
my uncle just gifted me with this bike and we are restoring it together well hes teaching me but im helping it was baby blue but it was rough so im gonna do white instead makes it pop got it primed. now just need to make the baby shine..but man what a great bike
Back in the early 70's my brother had a dark brown Continental ten speed and my sister had a bright yellow Varsity ten speed, and I had a Stingray and they were the standard in bikes back then. Now I'm disabled and last year I bought a Schwinn Meridian adult trike and I love it but the Schwinn of today is not the same Schwinn od yesteryear we all knew and loved because now the frames have decals saying *Made in China*, and the metal badges that used to grace the front of every Schwinn are now just a piece of cheap stamped FOIL applied with double-sided TAPE. The frames still seem to be made and welded very good good but the little things that made a Schwinn a Schwinn are long gone :(
Chicago Schwinns were just the pinnacle of the company. Back then Chicago Schwinn was THE bike to have. By the 70's, Schwinn's 10 speeds were losing to imported marques like Peugeot, Gitane, Raleigh, Mikado, etc. Still, they made some bombproof bikes, including the Continental and Varsity.
It brings tears to my eyes to see how Schwinn's name was ruined by Pacific Cycle. Pacific also tainted GT Bicycle, another brand that I have attachment to. Chinese made bicycles can be excellent, as evident by city bicycles built by Shanghai Forever Bicycle Co. However, a Made in China/Taiwan decal has no place on any Schwinn. Today's Schwinn is a mart-bike, a slap in the face of the company's name and an insult to Ignaz Schwinn, the company's founder.
@@nigahiga6400 That's the US government fault for giving in and allowing China to take over production of pretty much everything
No US company that makes their stuff domestically can compete with China made products, because it's much cheaper for companies to build stuff there with the sweat shop slave labor. So US companies now simply build stuff there. The USA made products today are niche markets, for people that are willing to pay the extra for the USA made product
im like you ! Funny, just found this vid again because a few hours ago the guy down the street just gave a Schwinn. The frame is a copper brown color, it is a May 1975 Continental I think. Your's is the same, light, levers, same everything. Your Fuji is awesome. Better bike, they are a different species. But I have 7 now, :) . I also love my Fuji Finest from the early 70s. Very light and TALL.....Take care.
Built like a tank, I owned one as a teen.
very nice looking bike.
hey bradda! ive been riding the og tubes on mine for 5 years! they are awesome!!! =)
I had an identical 1973 Continental with a 27-inch frame and with the identical generator set. The color was identical to yours, however it was not two-tone. The lighter blue was the color. Yours could be a re-paint?? Should you touch up the paint, look for Schwinn "Kool Blue." I believe that was the correct color name. I think I still have a spray can of it.....
I loved mine until it was stolen out of my parent's garage while I was away at college in 1980....
Enjoy your bike, and the continued restoration. Buy a copy of Glenn's Complete Bicycle Manual (1973) for technical/ how-to information. Congrats on your purchase!
Good luck with your Continental project Jethro. I just finished restoring this bike recently and will be riding it this summer. As soon as I get a nice sunny day, I'll do an updated video on it. Stay tuned!!!...
I just got a blue ‘75. Restored it. Friggin indestructible Armageddon bike! New tires and puncture resistant tubes. Unstoppable!
