@@existencialcrimson9807 Spoilers for parts 6 and 7 Yeah, well Pucci wanted to show people their futures but his stand sped up time, taking away said futures in a sense. Diavolo being doppio’s split personality makes even more sense when you consider that doppio, being raised to be a devoutly religious individual, would name his violent, confident, and manipulative split personality Diavolo, the Italian word for Devil. Edit: Thank you so much for the heart!
DID can actually cause physical changes to the person's body, but they are very small, like a slight change in body temperature. So Diavolo's body changes is an exaggeration of this.
@@moustachio05 You don't understand it at all, do you? It's explained in the video somewhere that DID isn't something anyone "chooses" to go through, it's a general result of extreme trauma
one thing I'd like to mention is something i actually heard earlier today. it's a quote about the Devil. "The Devil's greatest trick was convincing the world he didn't exist."
The views of Diavolo being the confident and protective side of doppio in this video is interesting seeing that everytime Diavolo is in a fight, including the final one, he tries to run away when presented with resistance like a coward, contrasted with Doppio who would rather lose a limb or sacrifice himself rather than run away as we see in the metalica fight, and thats not even mentioning Doppio's sailor mouth and his outbursts of rage compared to the more calm and calculating diavolo
Something that supports this is King Crimson’s main ability. King crimson is a violent stand that exudes so much physical power that it’s not impossible that if it and Star Platinum were to go for an all or nothing one punch duel, that King crimson would win. But the moment Diavolo is threatened, he jumps forwards in Time by sacrificing all that power. It’s a stand that screams and rages but as soon as it hits any form of resistance; no matter how slight, it runs.
unknowning unknown but he considered running to start with if he couldn’t get the arrow, the only reason he went ahead was *because* Trish damaged his pride and he saw a favourable future for himself
@@thiefkingparsley576 You've been misinformed. The stat you think is durability isn't what you think it is. "Durability" is a mistranslation. It's "persistence," the term for the measurement of how long a Stand's ability can persist. King Crimson has an E in persistence because his ability can last only up to 10 seconds.
[Spoilers, obvs] Something this recontextualizes, and makes all the more depressing... is Vinegar Doppio's death during the Silver Chariot Requiem Arc. Think about it. Diavolo was always Doppio's defense mechanism, according to your posit. Whenever he needed help with a situation, if he felt he was in danger, his boss was always a phone call away. Someone who could calmly address the situation, helping Doppio as he needs it, and finding the best course of action to get out of a situation unscathed. But then, in his most critical moment, Doppio's defense mechanism assessed the situation and realized he would be better off without Doppio. The one thing he trusted the most betrayed him without mercy, and he doesn't even realize it. He spends his last moments calling out for his boss, the one thing he knows can always help him. Which, ultimately, is what kills him. It only leaves behind the monster he manifested. How incredibly poetic it is that in end, the boss ends up being a traitor, just like the people he's fighting.
At least Doppio got to live his last moments free of his unstable monstrous personality that has controlled him for so long. Doppio got to be his own person now, if only for a few sad, short moments. It’s an act of kindness and mercy by fate compared to what Diavolo ended up getting in the end.
I agree, because of Diavolo and jojo and Araki I discovered the greatest folk/art rock band in ZA WARUDO and I love their music, lyrics, vocals, and their jazzy sound
You are right. I was only watching jojo because all my friends ask me to and the name king crimson they kept saying. It was my favorite band. After listening to their music. I start to see the season why Divaolo’s stand is king crimson. His brutally just like the music
Pretty interesting how Diavolo's own "luck" backfired on him. He finds the magic stand arrows and sells them and gains a fortune. How lucky. Except........... The old lady you sold it to has a son, who gains a stand thanks to this and kills/rapes Polnareff's sister who joins the crusaders because of this later. The arrows find Dio who awakens his stand, and with that Giorno's Josuke's and Jotaro's Jotaro and Polnareff gain stand battle experience and knowledge of the arrows and Polnareff eventually finds Diavolo, but fate have yet to catch up to Diavolo. Except.... Because of this Polnareff finds out about the Requiem arrow's power. Meanwhile, Joutaro finishes his business in Morioh and send Koichi to find Giorno which helps Giorno learn more about the stands and the arrows and determines that they have to find the boss pronto. At this point the death flags all converge on Diavolo. He tries to kill Polnareff but fails because of the knowledge he accidentally let him learn, gets cornered by a kid whose power comes from the arrows he sold and the daughter he took his sweet ass time to kill and gets deathlooped by the combination of the three. In reality the man thinking he is blessed by fate was the most hated by it, only fate gave him the long and quietly creeping end he feared the most rather than a merciful and fast one.
Edit: I forgot that there was literally a scene in the anime showing him selling 5 of the arrows to Enya. Big oof on me. I only have one thing to say about this. How old do you think he is? I don't remember how old he is but if he was a teenager or young adult around his daughters conception then he would be about the same age as Jean or Jotaro. Gio and Trish are the same age, Gio's conception was before Dio fought Jotaro, Dio had been among the living with a stand for over a year if I remember correctly. Meaning that he would have had to find the arrows, gain a stand, and sell them before Trish was concepted which doesn't make since. Diavolo couldn't have sold the arrow that gave Dio his stand which gave the Joestars a stand. And Jean's sister died years before part 3, so Diavolo couldn't have created The Hanged Man. I get what your saying and it would be cool, but as far as I get it the timeline doesn't make since, but I could be very wrong here I don't remember how old he is, if he's in his mid 40's or older then it could, but I think he's in his 30's.
Technically he is because he never actually dies and if he does he'll be back to life again with no wounds so if he avoids what can kill him he'll be fine and immortal
@@zay9050 It's like reverse of Chaos in Final Fantasy I. He proudly goes on about how he's killed the good guys time and time again, about how they just won't be able to emerge victorious. But that's all he'll ever do, until he's finally defeated.
I mean, Fugo's stand would have destroyed King Crimson, if he didn't leave the gang... Even if Diavolo erases time, he cannot go near Fugo, because he's farting deadly gases around his surroundings. Looks like Araki forgot?
@@aethersome Part 5 would have been my favorite part if Araki felt like there would be more need to develop the remaining characters, for example, Fugo accidentally running into Diavolo and then he changed his mind. It would have been emotional if it was canon.
Diavolo for all the insanity that covers his character... he is really relatable, his anxiety and stress over his past and himself, his insanity for his own identity and his need to control faith is just something that i love so much about it, I'm not saying he's justified for his actions, but i can somewhat understand why he does what he does... even though he takes it to a whole other level of insanity... but god damn i love that bastard so much XD Also Fantastic video as always :D
Yeah. I heard from analysis video about how Diavolo is probably the most human main antagonist in Jojo. Yes, even more human than Kira. I can understand why. I mean, how many of us want to be and/or believe we are in control of our lives? We get super anxious about our future and secretive about the things we have done in our past. We get very desperate and aggressive when we get stuck in a pit of horrible events and want to climb back out into the safety of our lives again. I believe what Diavolo represents is the idea that you should not try to play with forces that are out of your control (Like other people, their actions, feelings, etc). In doing so, leads to a life of misery, paranoia, violence, loneliness, and insanity. Rather, savor what you can control, which is yourself (Your actions, your emotions, your ideals, etc). Prepare for events the best you can and let life play out naturally, and it will all work out in the end. To quote Roz Doyle from Frasier, "Even though things may not happen like we planned, they can work out anyway."
Tbh one of the reasons why I like Diavolo is that I can relate to him, I, too want to erase my past and hide my identity from the world but that's not everything, I want to erase my own existence, I want to commit suicide in a way that no one will find my dead body or even know about it or will mourn my death. Simply like I've never existed before.
+Lazydudedanny He died horribly though. Never made sense to me why Dio got an instant, pain-free death, and Diavolo gets to suffer for eternity. Dio's sins were lengthier and morbid.
Diavolo’s mystery is definitely the main draw of his character. I think what most people love about him is that we will never know the full story. What you highlighted in this video was a plausible background but that can be one of many MANY more. Great work on the vid, loved it.
I always thought that Diavolo had suffered mental problems since birth (assuming that story about his mother being pregnant for 2 years is correct; he'd be a little overcooked), and that resulted in him having a two-faced personality. Then, upon obtaining King Crimson, the schism in his mind deepened and eventually fractured into two entirely distinct personalities: Diavolo and Doppio, the former becoming the dominant personality. It can also be speculated that, in some truly _bizarre_ ways, King Crimson *is* Diavolo.
Really appreciate the disclaimer at around 6:00 as while I love JoJo and like Diavolo as a character, media is oftentimes the primary way people get exposed to different kinds of mental illnesses. Diavolo is hardly a realistic depiction of someone with DID, and should under no circumstances be viewed as such, as this can paint a very skewed picture of a very real mental illness that people who have been through horrible things suffer from.
@@SuprMikey64 I disagree. But putting that aside, what is really stupid is this imbecile that is somehow so hurt by such a measly thing, overreacting in a way possibly more stupid than the thing they make out to be.
I've always subscribed to the idea of Doppio being the main (original) personality. It just makes so much more sense that, in addition to everything you've mentioned in this video, the original personality is almost always unaware of their condition while the other personality/ies are. Diavolo knows he and Doppio are the same person; that's why he's so careful about instructing him and talking to him, framing it in a narrative about Doppio being his "most trusted subordinate."
So in a way he's like Kira if Kira was obsessed to not stand in out by literally killing anyone who even figures out what his name is, but like times ten?
Agree. Even if Araki tried to give Dio some backstory, that was completely discarded in Stardust Crusaders, in the end Dio is just a narsissistic megalomaniac jerk. He's a great meme, but a meh character. Diavolo is great because he's intriguing. We can see his past impacting his life, AND he have Doppio, which is a point to be considered.
Dio is a fun character to have on screen and a threatening antagonist but he doesn't have much depth to him which is why he is probably one of the worst antagonists in the series.
On top of being my absolute favourite villain in all of JoJo and fiction, upon further inspection, you also begin to realize just how much religious symbolism is in Vento Aureo and in Diavolo's birth, which is reminiscent to the birth of Jesus Christ, ironic for someone who goes by the epithet of the Devil and believes themselves to be the only one worthy of the Arrow and favoured by Fate. Amusingly, Doppio is also the literal analogy for schizophrenia, which is why is based off the song 21st Century Schizoid Man. Great video.
Big Daddy Yodel TM I feel like Araki based the basis of Diavolo’s character off of a King Crimson song called 21st century schizoid man (it’s a pretty good song, I recommend you listen to it if you have free time).
That's because Doppio is sorta analogous to the Anti-Christ. A human who becomes inhabited by the Devil himself, or possibly always was the Devil (sorta like how Diavolo is both a seperate entity and the same person as Doppio). The whole part has slight analogies to mostly Revelations, with a few callbacks to Jesus' time. Obviously Giorno is the son of "God" (And his name is in reference to the Sun [as in "son"] if I remember correctly) and Bruno's ressurection from Giorno's power is an obvious reference. But going back to Diavolo, he is someone who fears his fate (as the Devil is fated to lose, die, and be sent into the lake of fire to die for all eternity [or cease to exist, I don't know how it works]) Doesn't want people to know he exists and removes all his history ("the greatest lie the Devil ever told...") and Love is a foreign concept to him since he tried to kill Trish without a second thought among others in his life, much like the Devil who doesn't understand Love. And of course just like the Devil, Diavolo is fated to lose to Giorno who punishes him to die for all eternity. Also likewise in part 6 Pucci is analogous to the Prophet of the anti-christ, and is the bringer of the end of the world, and is one of the reasons for the "ressurection" of the anti-christ (Like the green baby in part 6). Something like that, I forget all the connections, and in that part Dio is the analogy for the anti-christ instead of Diavolo.
anyone who says diavolo is a bad villain or he doesnt have much character development as dio is wrong. You can understand his personality with his actions and if you pay attention to the whole part you’ll see the symbolism of Giorno and Diavolo, they’re both so important characters in my opinion, just like the symbolism of holy corpse in steel ball run
Love how Araki creates character based on lyrics of song. " Confusion will be my Epitaph " , this sentence describes the confusion of Diavolo's past and fear / Epitaph the future of Doppio .
As a person who suffers of DID, I actually find the talking thru objects part relatable. Me and my others use to speak together and have long discussions. For my family or other people, it seems I am rambling making different voices just like Doppio. I discovered jojo and part 5 first because a friend of mine told me "there is a character with your problem and he kinda has the power to even switch body. And it's Italian like You!" And that's the story how part 5 got me into JJBA and because I find King Crimson my favourite stand.
The church's infamous reputation for molesting young boys is a very interesting notion here: Doppio intended to be a man of the Lord, and dedicated himself to it. My headcanon is that Diavolo became a defense mechanism for Doppio if maybe he experienced sexual abuse in his youth. The fact that Diavolo hates having a daughter and regrets that stage of his life would make a lot of sense from this pov. The fact that Diavolo's theme (Not Doppio's) has church organs in it would also support this. In his theme, church organs are meant to give a sense of grandiosity, terror, hopelessness and complete dominance. This could mean that Diavolo associates the church with violence and unwavering control. Diavolo sought this kind of power through his stand. He might also be very paranoid due to the fact that he could've felt betrayed by the church. Religion is supposed to help you improve as a person. Doppio and Diavolo being go-getters and wanting absolute power could be his way of keeping sane, kind of a way to say: "No one can hurt me now. I'm in charge of my life now." His fight with Bucciarati even hints at this; "I won't allow anyone to threaten my throne." It could very well be that being a major drug dealer and mob boss gives him A MAJOR ego boost and sense of safety.
Hey, great video, I enjoyed it a lot! One thing I think you didn't quite nail that I'd like to hear your thoughts on, though: Doppio doesn't have a kind or gentle personality. He has an avoidant, disarming, and defensive one. He quickly becomes violent or loses his temper (well before he hits a "Diavolo switch") and even tells Diavolo to shut up. He seems nonconfrontational, which gives off the illusion of him being cute and kind, but really he is inclined to lash out at the slightest sign of hostility. Polnareff's speculation that he was abused might not be too far off... he shows a lot of stereotypical, exaggerated features common in abuse victims. If he was abused by someone, Epitaph might have less to do with him just being afraid of the future and more to do with trying to predict the future to tell when he is about to be harmed. It then makes sense that he would try to conceal his identity from Donatella because of fear, be it that he "isn't good enough" or that he's embarrassed of his past, etc. So he created stories and developed talents to impress people. Whether it is abuse-fuelled or not, Doppio has extremely severe anxiety and a fear of judgment. Let me know what you think!
@@avemariella They definitely played it up in the anime. This was written before last week's premiere. Even then, his kindness is more geared towards animals then people. Look at how he shoves aside the little boy to talk to the bug, or when he's talking to Donatella and looks like he's about to cry the whole time. He doesn't even really talk to her.
This video was amazing. It brought light to one of the most bizarre and psychologically deep moments of JoJo and one of the most misunderstood characters in JoJo. It's funny and sad how relatable a psychopath villain with DID can be so relatable. Also I see what you did at 12:22 , don't think I am just letting you get away with that.
the screaming in the background when he talked about Diavolo's brutality helps to put a even bigger emphasis on how terrifying Diavolo really is, nice job with that little detail
An interesting way I like to interpret Diavolo's fate at the end of the part was that he is continuing to in fact, live his lie that he has created that he is in fact immortal. He never dies and he always enters a different "death" right before he actually dies. Golden Experience Requiem had made Diavolo's fantasy a reality. And now, "he will never reach the truth", and will continue to live forever in his own dillusion. I'm not the biggest fan of Golden Wind, but that's damn good writing
king crimson works by skipping time. For someone with DID, the other personality taking over and then returning would work as time being skipped by them- like what happens to anyone but diavolo/king crimson when it activates
I think you're spot on about Doppio's D.I.D. Especially when you went into detail about how an alternate personality can be used defensively, sort of like the fortuneteller who wouldn't stop harassing him eventually forcing him to change.
Diavolo is such a well written character. Idk how Araki even came up with this idea but I love how despite the slight exaggeration, it all perfectly makes sense
It would make sense for Doppio to be the original. For one, the way he was described as a kid is definitely Doppio. More importantly, he has dissociative identity disorder, and there are times when the host/original is completely unaware of the other alter(s).
thank you so much for this video - i myself have DID and it always hurts seeing misinformed people not bother on researching just saying blatantly wrong things about it. i was skeptical to click on this video, but i'm so glad i did. you give an extremely clear picture of what DID is and does to someone. thank you, and great video!
Back when I read Part 5, I used to think that Doppio was just a normal guy and that he was possessed by his own Stand, King Crimson, who was calling himself Diavolo... That would explain why Diavolo knows how to control his Soul and how he knows about Buccellati's condition... But I prefer your explanation...
@@STDVH I never thought that. It was pretty obvious it was split personality disorder, hell even polnareff mentioned it. Also, stand user can speak through their stands.
Thing is though...Diavolo really ISN'T protective of Doppio. I mean, he was so long as he inhabited the same body, but during the Chariot Reqiuem arc, he really didn't give a crap when Doppio died. That kind of goes against the whole DID theory, which makes me think it was more like Diavolo was some kind of parasite/demonic entity living off Doppio all his life.
Here's the thing I don't understand about Diavolo: why is he leading a mafia if he lives the way he does? Despite being obscenely rich and the most powerful person in Italy, he only sleeps in hotel rooms and even there he wears a hood and hides under the table to ensure he's not seen. He doesn't enjoy any of the benefits of being a mafia-boss and it only makes him a target, the last thing he wants to be. His desires and his behaviour contradict themselves
I wouldn't mind seeing a spin off completely based on Doppio, his past and relationship (if you call it that) with Diavolo. Seeing his childhood, first "contact" from the Boss, his daily life and other things. It would be very interesing, a new spin on the "Jeckyl And Hyde" kind of story, when instead of terrorizing others, the Hyde of the story protects the Jeckyl. But the Boss is supposed to be a mysterios figure, so we will never get that. Bet Araki already forgot about him. Also more evidence on Doppio being the main personality: Epitaph can work well as a simple stand all alone, while King Crimson needs Epitaph to work in all it's potential. Also in the Chariot Requiem arc, Doppio gets transformed to Bucciarati's body, and vice versa, while Diavolo only gets to posess Thrish. If Diavolo were the main personality, I think he would have gone to Bucciarati's body instead. But hey, that's just a theory. A manga theory. Thanks for reading.
@@lightbeingpontifex diavolo switched from the body doppio got stuck in since his a separate he was able to go into Trish’s body because of their connection and later switch to mista where her soul was
@@skinless5136 I'm more curious as to how Doppio sees Donatella and his "daughter", Trish... I do believe that he was the one meeting Donatella, before Diavolo truly manifested... Maybe he had been curious as to why he "left" Donatella and his original friends, before his boss filled the void he himself unwillingly and inadvertently created...
I feel bad for doppio, meeting his mother really tore him apart... Literally, splitting his soul and personality in two... The fact he also believes he doesn’t have a stand cause of him being the root soul also saddens me... He doesn’t feel like he’s strong enough to have a stand, even in another body..
I like how Diavolo's stand, King Crimson, acts like giving D.I.D. to the person you are fighting, where after the ability ends the person you are fighting can't remember what they did.
Really interesting video, I heard about the theory of Doppio being the original persona, never giving much thought to it tho, but the way you put it makes it really plausible. Also finally someone that can pronounce Diavolo the correct way.
"as the emporer, the king of kings, the boss" that being said at the song epitaph reaches it's high point was beautiful. and I highly agree with you! my best friend has did and I study phsycology as a hobby (just as a hobby, I'm by no means a professional) and I immediately came to the conclusion that doppio had did. it was sad to see yet another demonization of people with this disorder, the whole "I have did so I must have an evil murderous alter" thing, but I was still really suprised to see it in jojo! i kinda made my own au where doppios did is more realistic, because I find the disorder to be incredibly fascinating and I love to explore ideas about it through one of my favorite characters, doppio
A theory I’ve had for a while is Doppio/Diavolo’s being due to a Stand Ability. From what we know about his birth, he was conceived in the span of a day, with his mom saying his father was long dead. So what if his father had a stand ability that allowed him to transfer his consciousness via his seed, which would have a time lock effect. So Diavolo would be the father using his son’s body. But that’s just me.
aww, Diavolo just want to protect our little Doppio, jk. Came from reddit, it feels fresh when we see JoJo from psychological way as it gives more deep understanding of the characters. Nice video, subcribed.
Also I'm a year late, I want to add something. When Doppio changes to Diavolo, the fortune teller says that his physique changes from a young teen to a full grown adult. My hypothesis is that when Diavolo is in charge of the body, the way he stand and behavior changes into someone of that an adult. When they're communicating using various random objects, my hypothesis is that since sounds are perceived through our brain, Diavolo is talking to him through their minds since Doppio's mental health is already in disarray. Thus why they can communicate through random objects, Doppio "preceives" random objects as hidden phones laced through the world, Doppio also "perceives" talking to Diavolo is talking through the phone. Thus concludes my hypothesis...
Hey guys just so you know, when someone has DID there is no such thing as the “original personality”. There’s a host, who fronts most often, but think about it like this: when you drop a plate and it shatters, which piece is the original? There is none, there’s just broken pieces.
That's probably why Araki himself didn't lable either as the original. It's also likely the reason they are both two separate souls. They came from the original but are different parts of him. Both of them have names that don't make any logical sense one being literally called devil and the other double. Meeting his birth mother probably completely broke him and forced him to regress into his younger self and destroy the things that hurt him at the same time. The complete disconnect between both is probably the reason both personalities are extremely different.
as someone with DID that also has a headmate/alter named Diavolo, i enjoyed this video. for one, its nice that you actually know what youre talking about. people that make weird assumptions are tiring. i also think you really sum up how doppio's past links with diavolo's role really well in a way that lets me see it with a new perspective. my diavolo named herself after jojo's diavolo, but its mostly because she loves his aesthetic. while jojo's diavolo is about erasing their past, mine is about protecting innocence, though elaborating on this further would probably be upsetting for me. anyway, thanks for the video. it was wonderful
Your first Disclaimer made me incredibly happy. Your emphasis on “this is anime, this is not accurate, this is just analysis” is something I have to tell so many people. The amount of people who use their “Psychological Knowledge” on anime are ridiculous. and they HAVE to be right. It’s never just a conversation
I would love to see you analyse Fugo this way. I'm convinced he has either Bipolar Disorder or BDP, which is something you don't see that often in anime, at least from what I can recall.
Watching Split (2016) makes me appreciate Diavolo much, much more. Cuz sometime i feel pity and sad for them due to their ill nature. Also this video is superb.
I actually have a hypothesis about the random objects being phones. What if Diavolo is talking through the stand? I have proof of this in the show. Jotaro vs Imposter Captain Tennille chapter 128 or episode 6 season 3. In the water Captain Tennille tells Jotaro that Stands can talk to other stands or stand users even in situations like being under water. * [ ua-cam.com/video/Zp3dqoAcs_0/v-deo.html -> time index 1:53 ] What if... Diavolo is not manifesting King Crimson but King crimson is talking to Epitaph. Diavolo seems to know what is happening even when he is not the personality that is in control at the moment. Just a thought I had when I was watching your video, thought you would be interested in this comment.
They are the same person but yea he might be speaking trough king crimson Because of the soul swap doppio was his own soul not being able to call out his other side
As someone with an official diagnosis for severe dissociate identity disorder, I absolutely loved this video and analysis! Lots of good research and very respectful.
So if I understand correctly, Diavolo is an alter (who would fit strictly a "protector" role) who split off when they found out about their origins and couldn't deal with the information given. They didn't have the necessary support nor the emotional maturity to process anything, which led to dissociation and an alter being born of the need to protect themselves against their past due to emotional trauma at a young age. I- Damn.
Originally Diavolo his the one with DID syndrom He wants to be the emperor, the king of the kings, the Boss but without anyone to know about his face or identity ( Doesn't remind you of a secret emperor ?? I mean God ofc ) I think Diavolo wanted to be like "God" someone that everyone knows being the emperor of this world but without knowing his origins, face or real name. He was raised by a priest a man who devoted his life to God and being like how he was being not too bright ( In the manga it says that child Diavolo was not very clever ) I think he was very naïve and from reading the Bible he was thinking that himself was kinda related to God ( I don't know what may be inspired Diavolo but I am sure that he believed in himself being somehow God ) but realising quickly that he was just a man among us. ^ And all the thing that I've said maybe the cause of the DID He was thinking that he was above us... but he sees the hard truth being just the son of a sailor and a jailed mom in a little village on a island, and all of this idea of believing he is God created this phenomenon (That phenomenon being very exagerated by Araki ) the Diavolo we all know rejected all his clumsy personality to ressemble as many as God ( In that case he will try to be as powerful as God but not as merciful as Him ) and put all his rejected personalities in one new personality Doppio. With all the transformation Diavolo did on himself he was thinking that he become the perfect embodiment of what he always desired to be, meaning... the emperor, the king of the kings, the boss, God ! So to be clear he had a God complex that scaled into decomposing is own personality in two new format one being the God ( Diavolo) and one being all the rejected personalities ( Doppio ) I think that there's also an anology between Jesus and Trish being the son of "God" ( Diavolo having this idea of being one) but I think I am going too far and I am half-asleep PS: English is not my native language
You're focusing way too hard on maybe statements and assuming story pieces that don't exist. Doppio is the original person because he has a full name while Diavolo does not. In part 5 everyone of importance has a full name. Meti has a video on it that explains it best. Plus it's hard to believe he has a god complex, he only wants to keep his power as a mafia boss. He isn't going further up, he is content as to where he is.
Great video! I had always wondered about the psychological side to Diavolo, or I guess Dioppio’s mental state, and I think this idea did a great job dissecting and explaining DID. Great job! I hope you make more videos like this.
Diavolo and Doppios story is very tragic since there trying run away from their past yet I think there strangely alike since their personality's are ones created by fear. it's what makes them great villains since both personalities are ones he created from fear.
Pretty interesting to note how Doppio's chapter is called "My Name Is Doppio" while Diavolo's is "They Called Him Diavolo"

It’s a stand that screams and rages but as soon as it hits any form of resistance; no matter how slight, it runs.

is Vinegar Doppio's death during the Silver Chariot Requiem Arc.

You are right. I was only watching jojo because all my friends ask me to and the name king crimson they kept saying. It was my favorite band. After listening to their music. I start to see the season why Divaolo’s stand is king crimson. His brutally just like the music
By that logic, killer Queen and made in heaven are the best villain stands since they expose people to queen.
The arrows find Dio who awakens his stand, and with that Giorno's Josuke's and Jotaro's
Jotaro and Polnareff gain stand battle experience and knowledge of the arrows and Polnareff eventually finds Diavolo, but fate have yet to catch up to Diavolo.

Also Fantastic video as always :D

Diavolo’s mystery is definitely the main draw of his character. I think what most people love about him is that we will never know the full story. What you highlighted in this video was a plausible background but that can be one of many MANY more. Great work on the vid, loved it.
“You will never reach the truth”
I always thought that Diavolo had suffered mental problems since birth (assuming that story about his mother being pregnant for 2 years is correct; he'd be a little overcooked), and that resulted in him having a two-faced personality. Then, upon obtaining King Crimson, the schism in his mind deepened and eventually fractured into two entirely distinct personalities: Diavolo and Doppio, the former becoming the dominant personality. It can also be speculated that, in some truly _bizarre_ ways, King Crimson *is* Diavolo.
I wonder if Diavolo was either a pisces or gemeni. Both which have a dual symbolism.
Sometimes I think them saying his mother was pregnant for two years is an analogy for her giving birth to two children; Doppio and Diavolo.
So your implying that those two (Diavolo and Doppio) were one person and split later on the story? That an interesting theory
Overcooked
Epitaph is Doppio, King Crimson main Body Diavolo. That was very clear.

I've always subscribed to the idea of Doppio being the main (original) personality. It just makes so much more sense that, in addition to everything you've mentioned in this video, the original personality is almost always unaware of their condition while the other personality/ies are. Great video.
i could be wrong, but i believe schizophrenia and schizoid personality disorder are pretty different
@@gxrgonzola No, you're correct.
Big Daddy Yodel TM I feel like Araki based the basis of Diavolo’s character off of a King Crimson song called 21st century schizoid man (it’s a pretty good song, I recommend you listen to it if you have free time).
@@SleepyMook I'll be sure to do so. Thank you, Coder. Let's hope Robert Fripp hasn't already erased it at his whim.

And it's Italian like You!"
And that's the story how part 5 got me into JJBA and because I find King Crimson my favourite stand.
The church's infamous reputation for molesting young boys is a very interesting notion here:
Doppio intended to be a man of the Lord, and dedicated himself to it.
Doppio and Diavolo being go-getters and wanting absolute power could be his way of keeping sane, kind of a way to say:
"No one can hurt me now. I'm in charge of my life now."
His fight with Bucciarati even hints at this;
"I won't allow anyone to threaten my throne."
It could very well be that being a major drug dealer and mob boss gives him A MAJOR ego boost and sense of safety.

Let me know what you think!
in the anime it's clear that Doppio has kind personality. the defensive one is just a stage when he's about to switch

And then everyone feels confused and dissociated after the time skip, similar to before and after a person shift.
He makes the rest of the world experience did skip
Huh, i never thought about that
I think you're spot on about Doppio's D.I.D.

I was thinking the same back then.
that's what i think too, King crimson isn't diavolo's stand, it IS diavolo. Diavolo frequently speaks *through* King Crimson, after all.

Oceaniz : Diavolo doesn't exit, he can't hurt you
Diavolo : *KING CRIMSUMUU*
Thing is though...Diavolo really ISN'T protective of Doppio. I mean, he was so long as he inhabited the same body, but during the Chariot Reqiuem arc, he really didn't give a crap when Doppio died. That kind of goes against the whole DID theory, which makes me think it was more like Diavolo was some kind of parasite/demonic entity living off Doppio all his life.
Personally, I think they are literally 2 souls that inhabit the same body.
Doppio is the best boi, and I can’t wait 4-5 weeks to see him animated.

I'm more curious as to how Doppio sees Donatella and his "daughter", Trish...
I do believe that he was the one meeting Donatella, before Diavolo truly manifested...
Maybe he had been curious as to why he "left" Donatella and his original friends, before his boss filled the void he himself unwillingly and inadvertently created...
One of the many reason why part 5 is so fascinating
props for actually playing Epitaph while talking about Doppio
I feel bad for doppio, meeting his mother really tore him apart...
Literally, splitting his soul and personality in two...
The fact he also believes he doesn’t have a stand cause of him being the root soul also saddens me...
He doesn’t feel like he’s strong enough to have a stand, even in another body..
I just had a realization watching this. Diavolo was in his mothers womb for two years because each personality had to develop in the womb!
9 months for diavolo/doppio = 1 year and a half
I like how Diavolo's stand, King Crimson, acts like giving D.I.D. to the person you are fighting, where after the ability ends the person you are fighting can't remember what they did.
Really interesting video, I heard about the theory of Doppio being the original persona, never giving much thought to it tho, but the way you put it makes it really plausible.
Also finally someone that can pronounce Diavolo the correct way.
"as the emporer, the king of kings, the boss" that being said at the song epitaph reaches it's high point was beautiful. and I highly agree with you! my best friend has did and I study phsycology as a hobby (just as a hobby, I'm by no means a professional) and I immediately came to the conclusion that doppio had did. it was sad to see yet another demonization of people with this disorder, the whole "I have did so I must have an evil murderous alter" thing, but I was still really suprised to see it in jojo! i kinda made my own au where doppios did is more realistic, because I find the disorder to be incredibly fascinating and I love to explore ideas about it through one of my favorite characters, doppio
yeah. not sure if the “demonization” was intentional or not,
but it left a bad taste in my mouth:(
Diavolo is the Dark Souls lore of JoJo characters
A theory I’ve had for a while is Doppio/Diavolo’s being due to a Stand Ability.
From what we know about his birth, he was conceived in the span of a day, with his mom saying his father was long dead.
So what if his father had a stand ability that allowed him to transfer his consciousness via his seed, which would have a time lock effect.
So Diavolo would be the father using his son’s body.
But that’s just me.
*The greatest lie the Devil every told… was that he doesn’t exist.*
aww, Diavolo just want to protect our little Doppio, jk. Came from reddit, it feels fresh when we see JoJo from psychological way as it gives more deep understanding of the characters. Nice video, subcribed.
Araki does a great job with the characters that they seem a bit plain but once getting deep to the character you start understanding some shit
The complete disconnect between both is probably the reason both personalities are extremely different.
always felt that stand was the alternate personality. The stand was so powerful, that it over took the main host
I really wish Doppio can live as his own, but that will never happen, poor soul.
doppio goes to heaven without boss, lives happily.
@@urvanrry2348
Doppio went to heaven, reunited with Donatella, and found out he forgot to pay child support...
Imagine someone with DID just having like 30 stands and being the most overpowered character. That would be really funny
as someone with DID that also has a headmate/alter named Diavolo, i enjoyed this video. for one, its nice that you actually know what youre talking about. people that make weird assumptions are tiring. i also think you really sum up how doppio's past links with diavolo's role really well in a way that lets me see it with a new perspective. my diavolo named herself after jojo's diavolo, but its mostly because she loves his aesthetic. while jojo's diavolo is about erasing their past, mine is about protecting innocence, though elaborating on this further would probably be upsetting for me.
anyway, thanks for the video. it was wonderful

No
@Oceaniz as somone with DID I can say the whole speaking through a frog is somthing that in some cases actually works.
To say that Diavolo is somewhat paranoid is to say that atlantic is bit of a moist area.
Maximillian Sukiman You need to do more research. Split is not a good represation of DID at all.

What if... Diavolo is not manifesting King Crimson but King crimson is talking to Epitaph.
Diavolo seems to know what is happening even when he is not the personality that is in control at the moment.
Just a thought I had when I was watching your video, thought you would be interested in this comment.
They are the same person but yea he might be speaking trough king crimson
Because of the soul swap doppio was his own soul not being able to call out his other side
I belive Araki is the best mangaka in existence.

Krysaon Munchie I do too,it’s my favourite manga ever, second is JoJo
Diavolo has my favorite dub VA. The guy has been in FNaF since Sister Location.
As someone with an official diagnosis for severe dissociate identity disorder, I absolutely loved this video and analysis! Lots of good research and very respectful.
I agree its so interesting to see how an anime puts so much effort into every character
I-
Damn.
thank you for using epitaph by king crimson, we need more king crimson appreciation in the jojo community
Originally Diavolo his the one with DID syndrom
He wants to be the emperor, the king of the kings, the Boss but without anyone to know about his face or identity ( Doesn't remind you of a secret emperor ?? I mean God ofc )
I think Diavolo wanted to be like "God" someone that everyone knows being the emperor of this world but without knowing his origins, face or real name.
^
And all the thing that I've said maybe the cause of the DID
He was thinking that he was above us... but he sees the hard truth being just the son of a sailor and a jailed mom in a little village on a island, and all of this idea of believing he is God created this phenomenon (That phenomenon being very exagerated by Araki ) the Diavolo we all know rejected all his clumsy personality to ressemble as many as God ( In that case he will try to be as powerful as God but not as merciful as Him ) and put all his rejected personalities in one new personality Doppio.
With all the transformation Diavolo did on himself he was thinking that he become the perfect embodiment of what he always desired to be, meaning...
the emperor, the king of the kings, the boss, God !
So to be clear he had a God complex that scaled into decomposing is own personality in two new format one being the God ( Diavolo) and one being all the rejected personalities ( Doppio )
I think that there's also an anology between Jesus and Trish being the son of "God" ( Diavolo having this idea of being one) but I think I am going too far and I am half-asleep
PS: English is not my native language
i really like this theory
ps. you have great english
Bro you saved my life with your theory. Thank you very much. I love you.
Although I'm more into Doppio being the original personality, I really like your explanation, sounds really makes sense.
You speak very good english... oh and good theory btw
Great video! I had always wondered about the psychological side to Diavolo, or I guess Dioppio’s mental state, and I think this idea did a great job dissecting and explaining DID. Great job! I hope you make more videos like this.

D.I.D? I wanted D.I.O
Mind Blown. I already liked Diavolo just because of the mystery theme but this just made me see him in a totally different way.
Diavolo and Doppios story is very tragic since there trying run away from their past yet I think there strangely alike since their personality's are ones created by fear. it's what makes them great villains since both personalities are ones he created from fear.
