Arborist here that works on bigger trees on the west coast. We love our 311 it does limbing and up to 24in rounds really well. Use it and abuse it years in and she just takes it. If you’re looking for an inexpensive saw that has the durability of a pro saw.. 311 is your saw
father was a logger for just over a decade. always recommended getting the pro saws. I followed his advice and do not regret it.
I mean if your cutting timber u have to have a pro saw if your just cutting firewood it's pretty stupid to buy a pro saw

I’m a full time pro chainsaw operator working along side harvesters Mon to Friday, I’m on my 2nd 500i, before that I bought a 391 it lasted a year of normal in my opinion abuse and failed, it was a great saw. Still have it up in my local saw shop he thinks he can fix it. But I wouldn’t recommend one for full time pro work.
I know nothing about the 311 at all but I love the 391 I just bought for cutting firewood. The farm store regular price was $ 759.99. On sale with a factory promotion it left the store for $ 461.99. I use mine for larger wood though. Should have bought the other one and resold it.
In Croatia price difference is 200€ and I bought MS311 18mo ago and extremely happy!!

How is the 311 on fuel consumption, is it actually using less fuel for same work as they claim?
I think 🤔 so yes! Very easy on fuel
I love my 391 ..it has good power ....why would someone not want to port one by the way??
The 391 is one of my favorite OEM saws for sure.!
So, one reason would be WHO ported it and of course how they port it! If it's done well and a good firewood port job (meaning work saw port) then truly no worries in doing so! But if it was done incorrectly it would cut the life down of the saw. To many guys just grinding on cylinders that probably have no business doing so!
I build a lot of saws and work regularly on them... So if I go to far on one I have many other saws to pick from. The concern would be the guy who only has a saw or 2 over powering his saw and ruining it.

I would go with the 311 the 391 is just to big it all depends on where u live thou where i live ive cutt firewood for 15 years qnd ive never neaded over a 20 inch bar there has been a few times ive had to cut one side then the opposite but thats it
I see both these models on the used market pretty frequently. I don't see the point of these when you could buy a 70cc clone for half the price.
391 is 700.00 in my area now. 😢
