Greg and Jan Judy of Clark, Missouri run a grazing operation on 1620 acres of leased and owned land. Greg and Jan went from near bankruptcy in 1999 to paying off a 200 acre farm and house in 3 years with custom grazing on leased land and are completely debt free. They own 4 farms and lease 12 farms. They graze cattle, hair sheep, woods pigs, pastured laying hens, sawmilling and grow shitake mushrooms.
Greg wrote his first book in 2001, entitled “NO RISK RANCHING, Custom Grazing On Leased Land”, which details the methods they used to build their operation from scratch. In 2008 Greg wrote a second book “COMEBACK FARMS, Rejuvenating Soils, Pastures and Profits with Livestock Grazing Management”. Greg’s second book covers all the methods they use with Holistic High Density Grazing, multi-species grazing, grass finishing animals, eliminating costly inputs.
Greg gives talks and schools all over the US, New Zealand, Germany, England & Canada teaching the benefits of Holistic High Density Planned Grazing, leasing land, multi-species grazing, custom grazing, agroforestry and wildlife management. The Judy’s hold an annual grazing school the first week of May each year at their farm teaching the principles of HHDG. Greg quit his off farm job in 2009 and is now a full time rancher. Greg Judy is a bit of a hero of mine. So much of this homesteading stuff seems to be finding the most feel good warm fuzzy with no account of the reality of the dollars and cents of this thing. Greg's channel is a nice reminder that time is money, money is money, and good management saves money and it's all key to good farming and a more sustainable world.
Greg Judy is THE MAN. You dont have to be a farmer looking to earn a profit to learn from him...any person wanting to do cows or sheep or goats should listen to what he has to say. I've been listening to him for quite a while and I'm so impressed with him.
Am subbed at Greg’s channel. Have passed his channel along to cattle farmers here in S E Tennessee. There is always water and grass growing. Unfortunately like Greg said most everyone have been raised with the mid century model of debt and a hope and a prayer. His method is worthy of recognition! ❤️🌱

Greg Judy is amazing! Love how he just casually chats away while dropping so much information that is absolutely gold and you would never learn in a textbook.
I have been following Greg for 8 months, he is fantastic with his almost daily videos. You get to see every day what the cattle, manure and forage look like. He rarely feeds any hay and that is only in the field rolled out as to aid the pasture spreading out the extra hay and cows waste. His best way of crating new pasture is to do that purposely in the fall.
I am curious about the folks who voted "thumbs down" on this video. Carbon and soil farming like Greg promotes will help the planet & it gives the animals a happy, healthy life. He still is a rancher, but this is a better way to respect the animal and restore the ecosystem under the soil.

Yes, I agree. Start with smaller sand mid-sized cattle and or sheep (21:23). But then I disagree. I believe it's better to also run ducks and/or chicken as well. It's more management yes, but it also makes the land more productive plus more diversity means more income streams while using the same acreage. I find pigs wonderful for starting new patches whether for a garden patch or clearing forest for silvopasture.

My heifers are like deer too...regenerative land. Key is not to over-saturate the land with cattle. 1 cow for 4 acres. I don't buy any hay or grain for winter. My land has dense foliage...i probably need more cattle-deer like cattle.

Greg Judy has many very good points ! But you cant be in two places at the same time as Greg is here in his videos. Theres far more behind farming then having videos and running the roads. Any time I hear the word "bankruptcy" relating to farming only one thing comes to mind. The farmer is not dedicated ! Their mind is set and they have no desire to change. Its as if " God " came along relating to these videos. Anyone can change....just observe ! I started farming here 40 yrs ago. My father sat and cried. He told me I bought sand and rocks. Of course my farm borders a quarry. So go figure ! On 140 acres I was able to make a very good living milking 50 cows during those 40 yrs. Never bought anything for feed off farm. Raised everything.Only 12 acres corn... remaining hay and pasture ( often sold some hay and corn ) . Total equipment investment 40,000 dollars including my pickup ! So often I see farms which are just clutter...junk... fences barely hanging on. Most of those are so called " organic " I worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Liberia back in 1978 ....trust me.. those people live a rough life.......but it was my learning experience to learn about farming first hand ! I could live on 1 dollar per day for food. We Americans have no clue on how good we have it ! Smile and live life.....open the mind !

How is one and a half acres a pasture for multiple cows. My yard in 2.5 acres. How much do you actually farm. I get homestead but calling them farms is questionable

Yeah gerg Judy is a nice good porson, I follow him on UA-cam he does show some interesting stuff as in worms castins or poop whatever he calls it..lol and how fast his grass regrows after he pasture it but there again grazing is the main thing that's common sense, cuz it's kinda no different how the Buffalo use to graze across the US hundreds or thousands years ago.. but what he does it is wunderful and amazing.;) Again sure am not a expert..lol but grazing is common sense. @@richardmiseljr2413 bud....save up 7500 get a apartment. Find a local jobs. Contact land broker about what you are trying to do. You can even ask to rent a field for a season (6) months at a set rate to buy later. Or pay the acerage rentals.
You can also rent your equipment.
I don't think jumping in to cattle is the wisest. Start with 15 acers of mixed vegetables you can afford the water on. Land is horrendously cheap in southern Colorado, Utah. And new Mexico because of water. But you can buy it for 3/4 of a penny to 1.5 cents a gallon.
I know this because i was in the similar position.
You MUST. Get uncomfortable.

Can someone clarify something for me? Did he lease his own land for other people to graze their animals on until that land was paid off and then grazed his own? Or did he put is own animals on someone elses land that was leased to him and sold the cattle to make money for his land in the future? Im new to all this lol

tyrroo Correct. Some farmers dig ditches on the contours of hills to collect water with the idea that it stores water for future use. Mr Judy paid a chunk of change to have someone dig swales for him and then the cattle ruined them. He has a video on it.

It's their accent you're hearing. Accents make changes in regards to the way that people pronounce words. Greg Judy is a genius... It makes no difference how his southern accent causes him to pronounce certain words in the English language. :-I
Dean O. Greg is a super hero to me but its a pronunciation thing not the accent. My point here isnt to argue on youtube though, I just think that the message is important enough for us all in the regenerative community to act and speak precisely as farming is already looked at as ignorant and back woods. To displace that ignorance we have to show that we can pronounce words as well as grow extremely delicious and nutritious food.

I'm certain that most people can tell that it's just Greg's southern accent. They don't have a problem with it. You can tell that is the truth by the shear numbers of people who pay Greg Judy to come to their town and speak about his system of successful, sustainable, and benevolent, cattle grazing. This isn't the same issue as the issue you are trying to link it to. That is why I am being so persistent in my replies to you.
You see from the beginning I got this feeling that as a black man you are sensitive to a very real reality that you see generates negative stereotypes... especially among black people as a whole. But I am not so sure that it actually does the same damage to Greg Judy or to regenerative cattle grazing as a whole. Especially in this case. The idea that people who speak with accents (country accents or otherwise) can sometimes jack certain words up when they pronounce them is not the same as the issue you are sincerely trying to equate this situation to.
I knew a German woman who came to the U.S. after WW.2. She has lived here for decades and she has never lost her accent. One significant thing about her German accent is that she cannot pronounce W's... They always come out as V's. So when she calls her son William... She always says Villiam... We all knew who she was talking about. Nobody faulted her because she has a fairly thick German accent... It is who she is. She came to the States, she learned the language, and she is a good and honest woman. She raised three sons. who are good men, who contribute to society in a positive way. That is all that matters here.
Nobody cares about her accent and the fact that there are words in the English language that she has trouble pronouncing. For all we know Greg has some kind of mild speech impediment... But if that were the case Greg has overcome that in a huge way. Because all things considered Greg Judy is an excellent, an educated, and a passionate communicator. That should be all that matters to any of us.
I think what you are sensitive to and what you're talking about is so called Ebonics. Where Ebonics takes words from the English language (severely jacks up the pronunciation of those words) and also gives those words completely different definitions that are not real in any way, shape, or form. Ebonics is not all about making bad grammar acceptable. When people lobby to standardize and validate Ebonics as some kind of important inner city way of speaking (that should be recognized as an actual language) then there is a real problem there that is designed to hurt the people that learn to speak so called Ebonic's.
Because that kind of madness (by design) can only promote ignorance... Not in just black people... but to any race of people that learn to speak and embrace that kind of inner city slang. The rap and hip hop musical genre's (also by design) pollutes the minds of all the different races of children, teens, and adults, who embrace that style of music... Although with that being said... Rap and hip hop's stylized vernacular are the very least of the problems that are perpetuated by those famous as well as the infamous Rap and Hip Hop artists themselves...
But most especially the Rap and Hip Hop way of thinking which is the real issue here is purposely perpetuated by the Rap artists JuuWish handlers who pay to produce the music, mandate the genre's political agenda, and make the genre popular, by relentlessly promoting it as some kind of a positive art form in American culture. When in reality the genre itself obviously stands against the people who embrace it, as well as the entirety of American culture, and it stands against our nation, as a whole. That is a very real and an extremely dangerous problem... Most especially for all of us who are concerned by how it obviously and willfully seeks to destroy the very fabric of our society.
But Greg Judy not pronouncing the word REGENERATIVE correctly? Not so much.
The major issue's that come from Rap and Hip Hop Music is how the music brainwashes the listener into believing that rape, theft, murder, and the overall street thug gangster lifestyle, are acceptable ways for any person to steal a living away from other innocent people. Therein lies the real problem and when you look at it that way... So called Ebonics is merely a byproduct of a criminal Rap and Hip Hop industry that continuously seeks to lower the dignity, the moral compass, and the social standards, of any and all who embrace it.
Most people in the states only care about foreign nationals who come to America and refuse to learn the language or adopt the customs of our nation. The problem with Illegal aliens thumbing their noses at U.S. Immigration Laws should go without saying and all ethical and law abiding Americans should be in agreement with bringing back and maintaining strong immigration laws. (at least with sane and honorable people that should be the case) These issues are all extremely huge problems. My Dads family all came from Italy and Sicily. I'm the first born American child in my Dads line. In fact my dad was born on the boat in international waters before they docked at Ellis Island and began their successful quest to earn their citizenship. Which (earning citizenship) was as it should be and as it should always be.
My Dads family did everything they could to become Americans. If you called any of them "Italian Americans" they would vehemently correct your huge mistake. They would be insulted if you called them Italian American's. They were then and they still are to this very day American's through and through. They are Italians by birth heritage... But the United States of America is their home and their beloved nation state. The idea of coming to a foreign nation and bringing your culture and your language along with you with an intentional subversive agenda that seeks to conquer your host nation and it's people by using the weight of sheer numbers is an act of genocide against the host nation... that is the real issue here.
Speaking broken English only shows that you are indeed trying to learn the language of the nation that you want to be a part of. A bigot might make fun of a Spanish speaking Mexican who speaks broken English... But that would be true in any nation. Bigotry is not exclusive to any one single race... No matter how hard the Liberal Marxist Communists like to say that only Caucasian people can be racist. That noise is just political hogwash that is being perpetrated by psychopathic bigots who do not want to be held responsible for their inbred hatred. So they try to turn their bigotry into an acceptable way of life by using political double speak and the lies of a very real Satan to scare and manipulate others into allowing them be as hateful, as criminal, and as insane, as they want to be.
Greg Judy is a gentleman cattle rancher. His message is clear and concise. Greg doesn't mince words nor does he assign certain words with differing and opposing definitions to suit himself. He simply mispronounces a word based on his accent. It's really a non-issue because Greg's mission in life is not hampered in the least by the fact that he pronounces a word incorrectly. In fact by the way his channel and his overall popularity is blowing up as of late... I would say that people understand Greg Judy loud and clear.
Still... With that being said... I want to say that I definitely understand where you're coming from.
Having written it out with you thus far... even if we never come to a place where we agree. I do believe that your opinion about Greg messing up the word regenerative does not mean the end of the world. That is why I chose the word nitpicking. When you're picking nits that simply means your taking a very small issue and making it into something that it isn't for whatever reason you may have. But I empathize with your position even though I know that (as far as Greg Judy's speech pathology is concerned) you are just making too big of a deal out of it. But your premise as far as this nation is concerned is definitely something that should not be ignored. In that sense that makes you and I closer to agreement then you might ever care to believe.

Vegans are so protein starved that their bodies are forced to get the nutrients they need from their bodies own muscle mass. This fact puts a huge strain on their hearts and on their brain chemistry. Complex protein is important to brain function and muscle mass. The human brain is made out of fat. The human heart is made out of muscle. For instance if a person goes long enough without vitamin C then the body will develop debilitating scurvy. Thousands of homeless people in the United States alone suffer with scurvy from not getting that one single vitamin C nutrient in their lives.
Vitamin C is just one of the many vitamin nutrients that the body needs to survive. If you go long enough without certain nutrients you slowly starve the body and your brain chemistry suffers tremendously as a result. When you deprive the body of complex protein (complex protein can only be found in animal muscle and fat) then the human body will slowly consume it's own muscle mass in a last ditch effort get what it needs to survive. You can get a form of protein from mixing beans and rice together but it is not complex protein so in fact your brain chemistry still suffers in the process.
Vegans are only slowing down the dangerous effects of the Vegan diet by consuming beans and rice.
People literally can give themselves a brain chemical disorder that looks like the early onset of dementia by depriving their bodies of the nutrients they need for their bodies to function properly. It takes a very long time to outwardly manifest but the initial symptoms come rapidly in behavior. If a person wants to slowly go crazy they only need to cut out all complex protein from animal fat in their diets. Vegetarians can easily damage themselves as well... But Vegans are literally killing themselves slowly... While at the same time they are slowly making themselves go crazy.
The reality is that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. So in fact it is you that needs to get a grip pal... Quit shooting off your mouth like you know what's going on when nothing could be further from the truth about you. Thousands of nutritionists all concur that if a vegan does not supplement complex protein with vitamin pills made from animal fat then they are going to suffer problems down the road as their bodies slowly consume it's own muscle mass. Vegans slowly starve their bodies of what they need to function properly and that reality first shows up in many of them in their extremely unreasonable anti-social behavior. :-I
