Thanks for the review. I own this library and a real 12 string. The doubled strings are indeed supposed to be very slightly detuned from each other to achieve a natural chorus effect. But in the library, by default some notes are too much out of tune to my ears too. After watching your video I realize I can pitch them in the sample edit page, thanks! (Owning several other Ample instruments where those pitches are all set on 0 cts, I did not read again the manual...)

"Slightly" out of tune is correct. A few tiny cents, and you're good. More than that, it begins to gnaw on your ears!

The cents being off it how it should be. That's what makes a 12 string sound like a 12 string. Nice demo

hte slightly "out of tune" sound was a really big problem mostly with older guitars. I think Ample Sound has the sound of a 12-string bang on. I have never heard a better VST 12-string. For some of my projects I now use the VST instrument, rather than my Ovation 12-String. Having to tune that guitar 10 times a day is a real pain in the backside. The higher you go up the fretboard the more the 12-atring gets out of tune...also well done by Ample sound.

An actual 12 string is kept slightly out of tune (only a cent or so, the stock VST offset seems a bit much) for the chorus effect like you said. I remember my first time using a strobe tuner on my 12 string and being disappointed how "meh" it sounded "perfectly in tune".

Thank you very much! on the fence since I'm not sure if it's worth it if you already have other Ample Sound acoustic guitars, but I did enjoy your video :).

Nice video. The single arpeggiated notes sound great but imo no guitar library has got the strumming sounding authentic. There’s a lack of fluidity and they always sound like a new student awkwardly attempting to strum. Chords can also sound too harpsichord-y to my ears.

Good to know. I'm trying to find a way to make it sound more natural. There has to be a way. When I find it, I'll show everyone how it's done.

May I add that my comment is in no way a reflection of your playing, which is fantastic. The newer Orange Tree Sample acoustics sound good and the strumming engine is improving.

Curious as to what software you are using for the main program and what you would recommend for Windows users? As for off tune strings this is standard for 12 string to give the chorus effect as you stated.

For Windows users, I really enjoy using Cubase. ProTools is getting better for MIDI, but it is not friendly to all plugins.

I have AGT II, do you know if I can remap the keys from the program? For example, change the strumming patterns to other MIDI notes.
Also, what DAW are you using? Looks beautiful and clean. It seems on Mac :( I use Windows

Hey Yuli, you cannot remap the keys (to my knowledge). I've read the manuals and have never seen that. That would be cool! Also, I am using Logic Pro X. My favorite. Thanks for watching!

hifimidi Thanks! I hope they add that feature, because I have a Xkey37. Also, thanks for your videos! Can you make one about Serum and how to use it?

    • @OneShortMoment
      @OneShortMoment 7 років тому

Yuli : If you want to re-map the notes used to trigger strum patterns etc. (or keyswitches in general, actually) you might want to look at ways to do that in your DAW. Cubase for instance (also available on Windows 😉) has something called „input transformer“ where you could essentially say „if this and that midi input arrives, transform/change it to something else“. I guess other DAWs have similar features.

The reason why they sound off to you is because your not used the sound of 12 string. They do sound slightly off, it could also be the recordings were recorded when the strings where over tuned or cold. What i mean is a guitar is never tuned to E, A or G perfectly. Why? It is the nature of the string instrument, if you tune the guitar to a perfect G it will go out of tune very quickly. To compensate guitarists are over tuned them. What i mean is I tune my strings, say to a low E, to a point between E and E sharp. Please note it is not E# as that is another note completely. 12 strings are more prone to it due to the number of strings and the humidity of the place you live at. If a guitar is cold it will not sound as good because the wood is not as flexible. This is less true of laminated guitars. So yes a 12 guitar does sound slight off at the best of times. Yep the 12 string is known for its chorus effect, it's suppose to be that way. The G string on a 6 and 12 string guitars are pain in the backside to keep in tune. Some guitarist call it the wolf string. So you are right it is off but it is meant to be. Your playing is very nice and the quality of the sound is excellent. Thanks for the video

Colors are pretty bad, especially tis "riffer" part. You've made it really big but on a 4K screen this would be a nightmare to see anything clearly.

They remade the entire library. It sounds way better.
