@@davidliston4204 first of all, you’re hilarious, because I was actually agreeing with you, it’s called sarcasm. Since it sounds like you’re trying to start a argument.😂😂 Secondly, I don’t think company subsidies should be a thing at all.
@@tedarcher9120 Actually it's probably less than 90%, the military spending is insane (and I'm actually fine with having our military be strong etc but we gotta figure out a better way to procure that stuff...as Saagar says). Like, and I'm sure you know this, but if we build one, say, Stealth Destroyer it costs 150B but if we build 10 they cost 18B each. Well, in terms of efficiency we should buy 10...but that's often not the case (and in all honesty it's not just a money question, you have to staff and train those people on the ship etc). There are all sorts of little fixes that could save us billions in the long run. Sure it won't "balance" the budget, but it will put us in a much stronger situation in the future. The only way we could truly balance the books would be to start selling our military equipment around the world and/or innovative techs. That said, it's a dangerous world out there and I'd rather be in debt but strong than balanced and weak.
Not so much “it’s always been this way” as much as “everybody wants it to be this way if they were to really grapple with the things the government does vs how much those things cost.” Like Saagar said, very little of government spending is even available for conversation in terms of its utility, and I would probably be even more bullish than he is about most of government spending’s utility. While I agree it is worthwhile to audit spending because almost anything of this size is bound to have inefficiencies baked into its structure (not to mention well known small corruptions like spending your funding whether needed or not so that you can justify your budget for the next budgetary cycle), we should calibrate our expectations well short of the trillions of dollars that is being promised.
What I'm wondering is why you think these billionaires are going to be good agents of change that will benefit working class people like the majority of us?
@@NateSmokes816 normal people can't lead this kind of job. you need someone who knows how the system works. if you think billionaire can't do this job, who do you think are qualified? normal people with the NetWorth of thousand?
This where you should volunteer your time ? Oh damn you have to work to pay your bills and don’t have time . Let the people who have money and time to do this shit . You peasents need to STFU.
Just on its face, no one should support billionaires (who receive a large portion of their wealth from government subsidies and contracts) influencing government spending.
From what I heard, doge is not about reducing handouts and activities, (as this conversation suggests) it’s about making the management structures more lean and firing unproductive workers in the government, so the government can do the same things more effectively
And how much do you think could be saved by firing every single government employee? You obviously haven’t been paying attention to their proposals (social security has been mentioned) or to what the actual spending levels are in the different aspects of the budget.
There is already a way to fire federal workers. It’s just not easy for managers and the firing has to be substantiated. The fact that you don’t see a lot of firings has is because people actually do Their jobs and can prove that they do Their jobs when harassed by a manager who has a personal bone to pick. People who have a problem with this just want managers to have the power to fire at will for bullshit personal reasons. Reasons that have zero to do with production… again, a worker that does not and cannot produce is easily fired. Making federal workers at will employees will just invite nepotism and the good ole boy system which is the last thing you want in public service non profit work. Also… federal jobs are extremely competitive. Meaning, everyone hired into any position is well qualified and has to first work in a conditional status before they earn permanent positions. A federal worker being unable to do their job is like a fry cook not being able to lift the basket. It’s a laughable sentiment. Particularly the higher in grade/experience folks. For Whatever it is that they do they are subject matter experts and if someone wants them fired it’s almost always personal or political. Kind of like all the anti federal worker propaganda.

On a related note, keep in mind that Musk is himself a government contractor with contracts with his companies worth billions of dollars. The idea of conflicts of interest in government seems almost quaint these days (IMO due in large part to Trump) but it's really concerning to see a guy with such a significant stake (and who no one elected) be empowered by the incoming president to have such a potentially major voice in government funding.

Yes, it's true. I remember a few years ago both Saagar and Krystal scoffing at the idea that inflation was happening. Go search their old Rising shows and early Breaking Points episodes.
@ they scoffed at the idea that stimulus checks would cause mass inflation Ultimately, they were right. Most inflation came from supply chain issues and increased shareholder value/price gouging
Love being told we just need to accept trillion dollar budget deficits and run away debt. Nothing can be done apparently.. These are not serious people.
Trump added 8 trillion dollars to the national debt last time he was in office. More than any other President had ever added up till that point. Don't count on efficiency.
I have never understood the defense part of the national debt. This year we added $2.8 trillion to the debt and $800 billion of that was on defense. If defense is part of the budget that would be nearly a third of the debt, yet every podcast or article says that defense is only 15% of the national debt. Which is it? And frankly, if the defense department can fail audits seven years in a row it’s time to look at how poorly the defense budget is managed…
@ Show me the difference between the two within a given year with defense budget figures for both. Otherwise, you’re just talking to yourself. As I said, this year the debt climbed by $2.8 trillion and the defense budget for this year is 800 billion. Break that down for me so I understand how the defense budget is not 30% overall. Best not say the debt is moved down the road as “overall debt.” That’s bookkeeping magic akin to selective statistics…
@@designsourcebfg Defense is about 15% of the annual budget. If the national debt went up by $2,800 billion, that would be the deficit (not the debt or the budget). What you’re doing is comparing the defense budget to the annual deficit.
@ hmmm. So this year the defense department made $862 billion, “non DOD military” (i.e., NASA, nukes, etc.) gets $309 billion, veteran benefits are $320 billion, and interest on the national debt created by the military at $640 billion. All military comprising of $2 trillion to the annual budget. Far more than just the DOD of 15%. So, if the debt is grown by an annual budget and at least 30% is of that budget is for military use that’s Defense regardless of department. Now tell me where the “entitlements” are…
It should be a concern to all Americans that Elon and Vivek were in no way elected to represent us in Government, yet wield the power they presumably have, specifically Elon basically owning Trump.

Govt employee salaries are like 4 percent of the total budget yet we are the problem. We are public servants and our pay is less then private sector employees. All this will donis push out the performers and leave the govt with the plebs that are able to clock in and out. The big money is the military industrial complex that won't be touched.
Social Security and Medicare are off the table unless they want a civil war. I have Trump supporting friends (retired like me) who have told me they will not tolerate messing with SS. If Musk can take on the MIC he may do some good. If he does, as powerful as he is, I believe he may end up like the CEO of United Healty Care.

I love the story of Washington explaining the senate to Jefferson with the cooling tea analogy, because it relies on the fact that in the days of the founding fathers, they would pour their tea onto a little plate and slurp it off like a cat
It's sad to hear him dismiss DOGE so easily. I feel like he has completely failed to understand the "purpose" of DOGE. This is about exposing the Gov for how it spends Our money. Pressure is building in America, at some point We will say ENOUGH!

One of the problem they will face is that the oversight to ensure that there isn't spending fraud is expensive in and of itself. In the 1980s, I witnessed a contractor spend $513 for a $13 power strip. The $500 spent was on labor ensuring that the $13 was not wasted.
Elon Musk has convinced people to help him build rockets, electric cars, and put computer chips in peoples heads. I think he might have a few tricks up his sleeves 😉 👽 🧠 Alien Brain Musk!
8:16 its statements like this that make me think of ryan mcbeths criticism of saagar. The pentagon has been researching miliary science around drones for a long time, and the us has counter measures in place while developing even better ones.
The number one complaint I’ve heard is that agencies cannot go out and buy their own supplies at normal market costs. They have to bid it out, and the companies that bid have to certify it. Which dramatically increases costs. If agencies could just go buy “over the counter” instead of having to bid it out, there would be a significant amount of savings. For instance, many military vehicles are compatible with new civilian components that actually exceed the original design requirements. Like how the Hummer and MRAP engines use outdated engine components that have direct civilian upgrades that were specifically designed to fix problems. Yet these new upgraded parts cannot be adopted because they don’t EXACTLY meet the original specifications required by the contracts. They could actually buy BETTER off the shelf components and save money. Also, doctors get bonuses from pharmaceutical companies for prescribing certain medications. If Medicare set up their own mail pharmacy they could eliminate these kickbacks and eliminate unnecessary prescriptions. Doctors wouldn’t do this if they didn’t get rewarded for it.
Saagar is incorrect about something. He stated that doge has no “power”. That is not the proper use of the word power. Doge doesn’t have formal authority. But it certainly has power. It’s power is a result of its influence as a proxy for the people, as the people are vehemently behind doge. The folks with formal authority will be under intense crippling pressure to enact doges recommendations.

I don’t care if it’s hard to pull off. Just do something. Anything would be better than the tax and spend government we have now. Seriously. Only 1% of government workers go to work.
@ I think that’s a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of billions we’ve spent on Ukraine and illegals. But to be fair most of Tesla money sent to rich owners of cars simply because they’re electric. Same with the $18,000 sent to rich people who could afford solar on their homes. They get free electricity and the working poor who paid taxes to them still pay for their electricity. Those people can’t afford $50,000 solar panels.

All he's saying is it's not the government overspending but congress. Go figure
It is obvious that you don’t understand the difference between debt and deficit.

What a surprise, their recommendationsn will be available next year, an Elon Musk classic
First Elon bought X and now he launched the XAI951x token this year is crazy
And bought an election! Thats no easy feat!
Lex - you not saying anything while Saagar talks - baller.
Saagar is a smart cookie
This dude nailed the logic of the game.
Thank you so much for this amazing video! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Normally I would agree.
“something this way comes.”
And everyone in power knows it
Saagar is great
Saagar is 100% on this.
Lex, tell me who is Atlas among them? The one with the scarf
I don’t care if it’s hard to pull off. Just do something. Anything would be better than the tax and spend government we have now. Seriously. Only 1% of government workers go to work.
Maybe stop giving grants to profitable businesses like Tesla.
Tell DC traffic that only 1% of workers go to work.
@@AndrewSmyk Elon Musk asked to have the subsidies to electric car buyers stopped
@ Don’t most take the subway?
You mean it isn’t possible for the government to look after our hard-earned money better? Get serious.
