- In February 2023, I was commissioned by the Scottish Poetry Library to write/make a poem in Gaelic and BSL
The poem is a call for help to restore and regenerate our lands, as well as the ‘cultivation of culture’ that relates to the land.
Despite the serious theme, there are also elements of humour and I hope the poem is an invitation to reduce communication barriers and join together with humour to use our culture and traditions to frame our experiences and support us in our endeavours.
The mix of BSL and Gaelic subtitles is beautiful! As someone just starting to learn Gaelic, this is fantastic. The language of my ancestors is just stunning, thank you so much for this!
Beautiful!!
Stunning. Pure Magick!
Absolutely beautiful, thank you for the sign as well! Its part of the communication and its all beautifully done.
Greetings from Germany and from the Dall family. My mom's family left Scotland sometime in the 1900s for South Africa. ❤
I know American Sign Language so watching this and just being able to recognize that you were signing was deeply frustrating, if only because fragments of it made sense to me. Two beautiful languages I don't know, brought together to make something entrancing.
Love the BSL element!
I am certain that most that you wanted to reach out to would have rather you shaved your arm pits.
You are boasting more than helping.
Sláinte.
really? ya be pit shamin this poor dame? ya be kind of a taint nugget
Maybe you're right on some level, and no doubt wrong on many others, but I can't help but feel a little sadness to think the attitude you levy against a woman growing her natural body hair is the same as that used against the Irish for speaking their natural language. In the end, I'm a man. I don't shave my armpits because I don't need to. How could I blame someone else if they didn't shave theirs? How could I insist that they should if I don't? And perhaps more to the point, how could I ask them to do it in the name of being more presentable to those who told us that speaking our own language was offensive?
what the actual fuck? Contrary to what you may believe, women don't exist to be pleasing objects for others.
@@SpookyJohnathan too much prn in the brain.
@IanMacQueenClanMacQueen is BSL your first language? If it is, I'd be very interested to learn about how body hair interferes with your understanding of the language.
