  • This color short tells the story of the beloved hymm by Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber. While it was an instructional film (geared toward high school students according to catalog information), some magazine and newspaper listings suggest it was also shown on television in some viewing areas during the 1950s.

When I was a little girl in the mid-1960s, this film was one that our teachers would show the class at Christmas time. We would go down to the school basement and sit cross legged on the floor to watch the movies projected on a screen.

I remember watching this film in grammar school almost 50 years ago. I liked it so much that some 40 years later I found a 16mm b/w copy and a Kodak projector on ebay and I was set! This was over 12 years ago. I've added several similar films and has become my own Christmas tradition. Unfortunately I wasn't able to set up everything for this season. Glad it's on UA-cam!

Yeshuah was not born on Christmas he was born on the Hebrew feast of Tabernacles, but about a year and four months the astronomers from the east had been following an apparition and alignments now known in a book called avoice crying in the heavens, had been observing heavenly phenomena that confirmed a tradition that had been taught for generations, probably from the Prophet Daniel, for it was Daniel that received the revelation of the Seventy weeks message from the Angel Gabriel, and that 69 weeks of years the Messiah would suffer and be cut off, so when the heavenly phenomena began to appear in heaven the Astronomers carefully watched for the sign in which they would leave Persia and follow the star, by the time they came to Jerusalem it had been around 2 years hey had tracked the heavens, but not traveling for two years, Yeshuah had already been bor one year and four months prior to their coming into Bethlehem where Joseph and Mary were now residing, they themselves were from Nazerith but had come back to their ancestral land of beit lechum or house of bread where the Davidic line had resided since King David. The two accounts of the birth of Yeshuah are quite different because they were Two accounts of his birth, in which Mary and Joseph were come to be taxed during the reign of Augustus Caesar while she was with child they arrived during the feast of Sukkot or Tabernacles, in late September or October, this is when the Angel informed the Shepherds in the field of the Messiahs birth, where they found the babe lying in a manger or an animal trough for eating, in a sukkah, for the original word for Sukka was a shelter for the sheep in which Jacob had built and called it Sukkoth, Yeshuah was the word that tabernacled or Sukkoth amongst us.
But the time of the Magi was when Joseph and Mary had returned to their ancestral city and the magi came into the house, not in a Sukkoth or manger, this is the time when Herod being tricked was angry and killed all the children in Bethlehem in judea from around two years and younger at the time the Magi had seen the star formation. They arrived at the time we western nations call Christmas, unfortunately western Christianity has adopted pagan practices of the birt of Jesus at the winter solstice, and rebirth of the sun a universal pagan practice, however the time according Jewish feasts it was Hanukkah, and Chanukah was a Jewish celebration of the cleansing of the altar in which Antiochus epiphanies sacrificed a pig in the name of Zeus on Zeus’s birthday on the venerable day of the rebirth of the sun, or Christmas, Chanukah is the true celebration from the deliverance of sungod worship called the Festival of Lights a Jewish festival that even Jesus went up to and during the time of the feast proclaimed that he was the light of this world, so I think we should re-examine the Christmas celebration called Chanukah in rememberance of the Yeshuah as the light of this world when the Magi descend and ends of Daniel came to honor the King of Israel
