It’s extremely easy to get free money for college if you know where to look but there are a lot of sources out there that want your money and they aren’t really helpful. Watch this video so you don’t have to waste your time and money trying these services out, this is a practical guide for paying for college and graduating debt free.
    ----------
So what I’m going to do here is I’m going to start with the lowest hanging fruit and by that I mean the easiest free money you can get. So the first thing you should do is get your rich parents to pay for everything. Just kidding, we’re going to assume that you’re poor like I was and your family isn’t going to help you out at all
The first thing you want to do is to go to your highschool guidance counselor and ask about high school scholarships and local scholarships. These are the low hanging fruit of the scholarship world and if you are even a halfway decent student you will end up getting a ton of these by just applying for them. A bunch of these only have a few applicants so you will be a slam dunk for these easy scholarships and the review committee will have to wipe their drool off of your application before presenting you with the check
Like I said before these are the biggest scholarships you will get and oftentimes these will pay for the majority of your tuition so put a priority on finding these, money talks and you have to be a savage here and even if you had your heart set on one school if they don’t offer you enough scholarships you gotta put put an ex through that
The next step is to look for essay contests and the big reason you should look into these is because a lot of the time they aren’t advertised as scholarships but money is money, gnomesaiyan? This one is probably the biggest secret on the list and the least utilized because most high school students are honestly too lazy to write essays. But the secret here is you are going to get basically the same 5-10 essay prompts over and over again and so all you really have to do is take a weekend off and write 5-10 essays then just copy and paste and make little changes here and there when you’re applying to these essay contests.
There is way less competition here than normal scholarships because not that many people know about them and one key takeaway here is to just apply to as many of these as you possibly can because a lot of the time they get 0 applicants and you can end up winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd place even if you don’t think you’re qualified.
I know a guy who entered a contest for minorities even though he was as white as paper and he won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and the only reason I’m saying this is to just illustrate that you should just apply to as many as possible
The next thing you should do is to look into your social and professional network. And by this I mean if you work somewhere check to see if your work offers scholarships, check to see if your parents employer offers scholarships, check your church or mosque or whatever you go to to see if they offer scholarships, check your extended families employers to see if they offer scholarships, you get the idea. This one is another one that’s a low hanging fruit and if you meet the requirements you have a really good chance of getting some great scholarships because noone applies for these

So true! I applied via FAFSA and received a B-On Time Loan (I didn’t have to pay it back as long as I maintained a b average GPA) and when I submitted my application to the school their financial aid office mailed me back for a federal grant that only require I take at least 1 class a semester (including summer) and not get less than a D. The B on time covered 7k a year and the other covered like 80% of the classes price. I also applied to several scholarships via the schools website, like STEM. Also as I was in FFA in high school I had that as well. Band has scholarship, there are a lot to choose from, just sometimes I think people don’t know where to look.

Hi Tonya, thank you and I appreciate the comment more than you know! That's a tough question to answer without more info but in general just make sure that whatever you choose to go into has some demand, or if it doesn't and you purely go for passion, make sure you're prepared to live frugally.
The biggest thing is to just accurately figure out three things: What are you good at, what do you enjoy and what can you actually make decent money from. Do research on the internet and then take the next step of talking to people that are actually doing those things right now to get an accurate idea of whether it's a good idea or not.
Hope this helps! Let me know if I can help any more :)

Also training in your military occupation which can sometimes directly transfer to a decent/higher pay civilian job for free plus 4 years of outside experience before moving straight to college. Shane, love the video. I do have a specific request for a video about the interplay between veteran scholarships (GI Bill, VR&E) and outside scholarships (like those from fastweb or larger scholarships like Tillman). Basically what I’m wondering is if you get a bunch of these small outside scholarships if you’ll be able to pocket them if your GI Bill or VRE covers it or if it simply cuts into what that program pays because it pays the school not the student. I’ve tried reaching out to student veterans but most are just on the GI Bill or VRE so they didn’t even attempt scholarships.

    1. Once you win the scholarship money, how do you get it? Do you make a college fund account somewhere and then the organization will deposit the money there? How do you get the money?

Should I try these options even though I'm already in college?

Thank you for this awesome video. a few questions
    1. Are most of the scholarship grants to be used over the 4 years like the one you mentioned in step 1 ($10k) applied through local school?
    2. If you received a scholarship, but decide to take a gap year, do you lose it and have to reapply for it the following year?
    3. I can’t find your side-hustle job video during college you mentioned you were gonna link.
    Again, thank you 😊

Is it too late to do all of this as a freshman in college?

Never too late! Just make sure you apply to the scholarships that fit you. If you need to be a hs student it won't work, but find some for college students and boom

Hi Shane, do you know if this process can be beneficial for graduate school as well? I want to attend Nursing Masters programs to become an NP, as they are around 60k in tuition.

Can you get any scholarships when you are in the middle of college or only before you start college?

I have a quick question. What happens to the additional scholarships you get if you already got a full ride to a college or received enough scholarships for you college to be paid off? Do you get to keep the additional money?
