"I met Jeff Minter ... my wife had to take me to one side" haha! .... I chatted with him in about '84 in Basingstoke computer shop - playing his own games on C64
Well he's certainly not changed as he was still playing his own game when I met him too. :D
I had a ZX81 back in the early 1980s but missed out on this. I probably would've bought the game simply because of the title, even if the cover was pink. There's a ZX Spectrum game called "Space Intruders" by Quicksilva that looked like this game but, amazingly enough, has colour and sound :)
I've only yet played the Hewson ZX81 release of Space Intruders and that's certainly not got colours or sound 😁

Yes...... what Villor said..... I have played Space Intruders because I had it when I had a ZX81, it definitely has neither colour nor sound.
Same here, also missed this game, I moved over to the ZX Spectrum as soon as it came out in 82.
If this would have been better marketed back in the day, not only would it have put a huge smile on my face, but it would have shamed a lot of other programmers into producing better looking games.
Yep, trouble was getting the world out back then. I bought Sinclair Programs in my ZX81 days and I don't really remember seeing may screenshots so the reviews never grabbed me.
I'll have to look back through some issue though to make sure my memory isn't messing with me.
The standout titles that did grab me as a kid were the Software Farms games with the HiRes graphics screenshots. Never plucked up the courage to ask my mum & dad to buy me any though.
this is amazing. I am jealous that i can't make a game like this
I only knew of three ZX81 games by Jeff; 3D3D, Centipede and Deflex (copy not found yet). Will have to add this to the Archive. 😎👍🏼
I've never even heard of Deflex. I'll drop Jeff a line to see if he's got a digital copy backed up somewhere.
Steve - Forgot to add. You may or may not be interested, but using Paul Farrow's Chroma Generator I created this a while back - ua-cam.com/video/ArY_qhN3Z78/v-deo.html
@@Villordsutch I’m the custodian of the Llamasoft Archive. Jeff’s worked hard over the years to find old tapes of his early works for the Archive. Deflex on the Speccy is one we’ve not found yet.
Silly of me to ask Jeff then (though he did answer 😁 (as he's ace)) knowing now you're keeping track of his past releases.
A friend of mine (GigerPunk) showed me a brief clip of it running on the Vic after talking about it here.
I bet it would have looked ace on the Sinclair Machine.
Just to clarify though was it the ZX81 or Speccy? I'd love to know it was in the ZX81 😁
You nailed the first level. I think the next wave started off lower.
もっと再現性が高いと記憶していた。
スペースインベーダーはパックマンと同様に、多くのシステムでクローン化されたと思います。良いものもあれば、そうでないものもあります。
This looks like a great version of Space Invaders. I'm a complete novice so there's probably an easier way to do it: it needs the DK'Tronics 4K Graphics ROM, so to get it to run in EightyOne you need to get/do this first: www.zx81stuff.org.uk/zx81/hardware/4KRom. I'd love to see it on real ZX81 hardware, any ideas on how to get it to work with ZXpand?
I honestly wish I had a ZXpand. I really want one but when they become available my funds are running on fumes.
Have you contacted Paul Farrow over at ZX Resource Centre, he's the guy behind up-to-date versions of EightyOne, the Chroma Interface, Spectra etc... He may be able to help.

I might just do that! Thanks for the great videos!
good but tricky!
It's not really high res. These are user defined characters but the movement is still 24x32.
how is the movement done? Machine code? or is it in BASIC?
If you look at the sprite sheet for the add-on graphics ROM, you can see he actually simulated 48x32 by splitting the alternate animation frames across two character spaces. that's why it looks smoother than you'd expect for the machine
You met Jeff Minter? Hob nobbing with gaming royalty eh!
