You absolute legend Hayden. Just successfully completed a water pump replacement on my RS3 following your video. Thank you for putting this content together, you have saved me a lot of money and time.
I’m so very glad I could help! I really wanted this video to be more than just content. I wanted it to be a step by step guide to help someone with the same problem! So I’m glad it helped!!!!!!
Just want to say "THANK YOU" for making this video. The video and information re spot on. Just finished my water pump swap on my 2018 TTRS and the process went just like your video! I even went and bought the $10 kit at Walmart. LOL Definitely straight forward and lots of steps, but not technically difficult. 10/10 and ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars! for your video of swapping water pump and nothing left out.
Dude this means a lot! I’m so glad I was able to help you! That $10 kit HELPS!!!! I wish I had a swivel or flex head 1/4 inch ratchet. Probably would have made the process a lot easier! Did the Walmart kit work for you? And I tried to be as HOW TO as possible! I was looking for a video like this when I wanted to do my water pump couldn’t find any so I decided to make one.

Thank you so much for posting this up! Much alike that torx from Wallmart was a life saver, your video is a gem for those of us that like to DIY the maintance on those cars. Also, that cardboard bolt planner thingy is quite nify; first time I'm seing this king of approach and I find it really smart and simple.
Yeah def avoid the dealer it’s about half the price at an Audi specialist. But if you’re willing to do the work, you’ll get all the tools you see in the video pretty much free. Thats the trade off
@@Haydenschreiermk2 Completely understand, my worst thought is if the engine drops to the floor then I'm in an even worse situation. Great job though. you must be well chuffed with yourself now its complete.
@@BENJAMIN_TTRS yes I’m ecstatic! Not only can you do this with jacks you can also use an engine hoist that mounts on top of the engine bay. $80 at harbor freight. You can also put wood or a jack stand as a safety. In case it drops!
Good job it seems you study everything before doing the job. That's smart. For your torx bit it exists every kind of length and size on 1/4 and 3/8 drive a good kit of those and a kit of triple square are needed on any job on VAG car !
I try to, don’t wanna go into a project blind. I think I need to add a swivel/flex head 1/4 inch ratchet to the collection. Some how didn’t have to use a triple square for this project, although funny enough I bought a shallow head set just in case.
Haha if I did the dogbone mount I’d have to loosen the subframe. From the videos I’ve seen upgraded mounts are a lot stiffer and you’ll feel the engine at idle and when driving. Lots of vibration
Engine and gearbox mounts are not necessary unless they are worn. Dogbone mount is highly recommended, but no need to change the whole mount. You can get inserts which fit from top and bottom to fill the open spots in the oem mount. Therefor you don't need to drop the subframe.
@@Haydenschreiermk2 I have the racingline doggone mount inserts installed on my MK3 TTRS. The increase in NVH is hardly noticeable. Only very slight increase in NVH and only noticeable if trying to look for it. I've also installed their propshaft bearing alignment kit as well.
@@BENJAMIN_TTRS did you just replace the insert or did you remove the circular bushing in the subframe? Is their much difference just replacing the dogbone mount shaft?
Unitronic or old ECE dog bone mounts are minimal NVH but definitely tighten things up when running a tuned car. Worth the cost, plus very minimal NVH. Also, 034 subframe sub frame collar mounts and rear sub frame mounts do stiffen car up some more without taking comfort from the car. They really help when cornering...just a bit tighter. A rear 034 sway bar helps with our cars understeer, but be careful to tight can make car oversteer a bit in some cases. I own a TTRS and those items definitely helped when running Stage 1+ e85 tune. Funny I watched video and below my water pump area it looks just like yours. Time to swap my water pump...nice video!! Keep going......
Great video! Just ordered the water pump form your link. Does it include gasket with pump in box? Also, If I order all the bolts you have listed does it include every bolt the oem dogbone mount bolts long and short?
The pump comes with the new gasket on it as well as the 3 screws that hold the water pump in. It’s brand new oem Audi. You can see in the video the new gasket/O-ring is on the pump. If you order the bolts off FCP euro, just click the link and order all the bolts separate. Yes they include the dog bone mount bolts, there are 3. Those will be new too. It comes with the extra bolt for the center bushing, you don’t need to order it as you don’t have to take the entire mount off. You only need to remove the two bolts that I had in my video not the third. Also make sure you have a 1/4 inch swivel/flex head ratchet. Probably easier than what I did in my video. Feel free to DM me on instagram and I’ll walk you through the process on what you need! My ig is in the description!
ty for this. i currently have the same problem but at 45k miles. If only pump had gone out when i upgraded to 034 mounts a while back.. it probably would have saved me having to take them off twice lmao. thanks for the pump link also because everywhere i had looked they were between 700-800$ for a rs3 pump.
You are very welcome! I couldn’t find a good video for the FL rs3 so I decided I’d make one. Yeah def would have saved a little time. Remember you need new hardware. The local Audi wanted $1200 for me, everywhere online is $700+ lol. This guy I met in a FB group has a link on eBay for the pump so it’s legit. He sells a ton on eBay and it’s a NEW superseded pump, like the “revised” pump. (New part number) which should mean Audi fixed the previous versions problem.
Awesome video! Thanks 👍🏻 Do you think I could do this in under 8 hours if I have a lift and all the right tools as you have shown? (I'm a moderately experienced DIY'er)
Yes you can! if i did it again i could probably do it in under 4 hours. i didnt have a flex head 1/4in. ratchet which delayed me. a engine support bar that goes on the top could work as well
I’m at 63k and I’ve been adding coolant more and more. I hope to save some money and do this job. I’ve been wanting the Insider before I dig into any crazy RS3 service.
@@obmcdo yes its an awesome tool, its more of a want than a need. the entire job i tried to use hand tools on the car especially with tightening things just so i had more control over torque and to not cross thread anything. But my reason for getting it was because i wanted an extended ratchet and this is both a 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. so i was sold on that. look on ebay. i got mine for like $295

But i agree its no easy task
i did that to get one off, the last bolt i struggled with a ratchet spanner wouldnt work. i needed inwards pressure so it wouldnt slip and i couldnt get my finger behind it. Next time i will use a swivel or flex head ratchet
what code is there??? the pump has no connectors going to it. just 3 bolts that hold it in. Seems like your problem isnt the water pump itself. Are there any other codes with it?
Yes just a O ring seal where the metal touches and seals. But the outside surface is aluminum to aluminum. I haven’t seen that part fail. It’s usually where the water pump was casted and plugged that leaks
I watched this & had the confidence to replace myself, turns out my leak seems to be coming from the plastic coolant flange on other side of the engine & there's NO info online about it 😢
