What a beautifully balanced mix -- gorgeous tone, with more Bobby, chunky Phil, and clean Jerry in the mix. Even Bruce is properly leveled. Such a treat to hear! Thank god they recorded this with 48 tracks!
I was at this show. Dark Star was everywhere that night, even if they didn't actually play it. And any show with a Might As Well in it is always a party.
Some people say that 60s & 70s Dead is the best... but I think 1987-1991 was the best five years of their sound. Mature, seasoned, infused with the soulful wisdom that only decades on this Earth, performing together, can provide.
Such a treat to watch a show you had as a cassette tape spooling in your 1988 ford escort in the early 90s! Oh and the separation of sound is delicious.
I was at this show only 3or4 miles from my home I'm glad I became a dead head in the yearly 1970,s and lucky 2 see so many shows ,Jerry was so talented seeing him on stage and smoking weed was awesome I loved it.
Watched the whole show yesterday... i sort of went in trance when this song started. The music continues for 1 hour. And the jam right after this song will blow you away.
Foi através dessa canção que eu conheci o Grateful Dead e, infelizmente, devo ser um dos poucos Deadheads brasileiros. Thanks a lot for the videos and the memories.... Greetings from Brazil.
Me too it was awesome I saw it at the Century 16 just down the street from Shoreline Amphitheatre where I've seen every Grateful Dead appearance there since 1986
I was there. When they hit the first note of eyes.....an energy took over the stadium and something happened. I always felt that the time travelers were there that day. Like they knew and didn’t want to miss the show. The fact that it was also recorded in 48 track says something else....the dead were pranksters...they had this up their sleeve
Damn I swear everyday this Summer has been a Helluva treat for me via UA-cam & all of this Incredible footage & Great music shared by you folks... People I don't know but connected w/ thanks to a Band that doesn't pause & never stops... I appreciate all of these shares... Once again Grateful Dead Music & good memories of years on Tour has eased the pains of a very difficult Summer that's been filled w/ loss... Thank you for making our Mountains echo w/ music from hollow to hollow all day long & into the night... The Damn Coolest Buncha People I never got to meet... Enjoy the rest of your Summer 2019...👣👥♣✌🌞
Strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hands!; Lol! I've met and danced with so many ' kind' people at the shows. Some became friends; some remained strangers all were awesome! Hope the rest of your summer is kinder than it's been my friend!

I was at this show, and the one from either the night before or the night after? 2 Giants Stadium shows, and good LSD lol. The first night I got to walk all the way to the front (in between sets) for the 2nd set! That was incredible. Miss and Love Jerry. :)
230968 My favorite albums are Workinman's Dead and Anthem of the Sun. Totally different vibes, but i think they were definitely at their best in the late 60's, at least as far as studio recordings go. Technology for live recordings was much better in the 90's, which gives us gems like this. I wish i could have seen them back in the Anthem of the Sun days though, that album is such a wild ride, especially after eating a few tabs :P
@@BothHands1 I like Aoxamaxoa and Live/Dead in addition to the two albums you have mentioned. As you said late 60s was the best time for GD and I agree. I like a particular live version of Bertha, studio version of Weather Report Suite, many versions of Bird Song very much. In general I am a fan of West coast sound of 1960s (GD, Love, Doors, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Jeffersons Airplane, Quicksilver, Buffalo Springfield, etc.).
I miss the days, the people, the culture and of course Jerry. I don’t miss sitting in traffic for 3 hours just to get to the parking lot, but I’d go and sit in it all over again without a doubt to hear the boys all together again
I know what you mean about sitting in traffic to get to Grateful Dead shows especially at Shoreline Amphitheatre where I saw the Grateful Dead movie last night at the Century 16 just down the street from Shoreline it was beautiful it brought me back to many wonderful times Right now I am sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Highway 80 going east towards Sacramento having just left Concord Pavilion I don't care that I'm stuck in traffic cuz I get to listen to Grateful Dead songs
Great performance of Uncle John's Band.. nice to see some clips on the official channel featuring Vince Welnick.. Noone could replace Brent with the bond he had with Jerry, but Vince did a helluva job anyway
@6:55 That transition gets me EVERY time and the riff that starts @6:56 is one of my favorite guitar riffs of all time. I know the Dead aren't really mentioned in Riff Rock circles (most jam bands don't get the nod and are ignored there) but I'm telling you...that riff is powerful and that transition is powerful, emotive and mood altering. Doesn't matter if it's the studio version or ANY live version I have ever heard. It's amazing every time.
@@brettlazor8219 Yeah...see...that's awesome that you knew the riff I was talking about. I guess that Jerry probably wrote the riffs but maybe others had a hand in that as well. People always talk about Jerry's solos and rightfully so and the jamming of the band as a whole and rightfully so but for me there are riffs here and there in their catalog like this one that make the hair on my arms stand up. I feel like Jery and the band don't get enough chatter about their riffs and that includes the acoustic material as well. ;-)
@@mosesgarner2404 the riffs are absolutely timeless. I was sitting at my desk at work listening to this video and once I read your comment I knew exactly what you were talking about. It's like the riff in Estimated, Eyes, Scarlet, Jed etc... So many iconic riffs that need no introduction. You're absolutely correct
I knew this guy about 20 years ago in Nashville who came to open mike poetry things and read his poetry. The name he wrote under was something like Cromere. He would never give his real name. He asked me for a ride home one night. He was crashing at a house in a wooded area sort of, I guess, south of Joelton, but it was late at night and very dark out there and he couldn’t remember where the house was, so we had a long time to talk while we drove around in the hills. He told me some crazy things about being a hippie and a weed dealer in San Francisco in the Sixties. He said he was at the Monterey Pop Festival and saw Otis Redding sing Respect real fast and saw Jimi Hendrix burn his guitar. He told me he used to sell weed to Phil Lesh, and the rest of the Dead were always jealous because his weed was so much better than theirs. I found that story a little bit fishy because why wouldn’t he want Lesh to let him sell weed to the rest of them and make a ton of money? Anyhow, I didn’t really have any reason to doubt most of what he said, so I was properly, if provisionally, in awe. Cromere said he was from Alabama, and my favorite thing of the many things he told me was that he knew Steve Young when Young was still a kid, and he said he showed Young the Seven Bridges Road. For that, if it’s true, Cromere deserves a place in history.
Rythem guitar, Bob Weir, founding member of GD, Bass guitar, Phil Lesch, founding member GD, 2 Drummers, Bill Kruetzmam and Mickey Hart, both original members of GD, Keyboards, Vince Welnick, new after the untimely death of former keyboardist Brent Mydland. This song over the years has risen to the top as one of my favorites. Words and music. GD, Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia.
