My primary satisfaction is to be able to do this work. When I began this project, only a few dozen people saw each video. Now it's at least a few thousand for each video, and for some it is a few million. Of course more would be better, but my work is getting enough attention to satisfy me.
This is one of the most incredible things I’ve seen on youtube. The combination of this masterpiece of composition, along with the excellent organ performance and enthralling visual guide, is one of my favorite things to show fellow music geeks. I get emotional every time. (also let’s give credit to the organist Martin Baker.)
And its actually what I love the most about this version. Now, each time i listen to others versions (with organ and others instruments) at that moment of the fugue it really miss something as theses bass notes are always played in a really soft way compare to this version.
It's hard to give reasoning for something I gave no thought to. I could come up with a justification now, after the fact (e.g. the first subject hasn't been introduced yet, those notes are part of another subject, etc.), but that wouldn't explain my process.
@@smalin Fair enough, It caught my attention as it is one of the more profound false entries in my opinion, but it makes sense to leave as is due to being a part of another subject entirely.
I have recommended you, and your channel on my facebook page. I did that, because I have decided to stop making animations of classical music myself, because you are so good in doing this, that I decided to go into a totally different direction. Better be a first-rate Konrad Swart than a second-rate Stephen Malinowski. I hope that you will succeed in reaching the aim of 'being able to pay the bills' through your animations. Keep up the good work!
Just to be clear, I did NOT intend to say that you are second rate. I wanted to say that IF I myself make classical music animations, I myself would be a second rate Stephen Malinowski. You are first-rate!
Hey @smalin, I just wanted to note that this is missing from your Art of Fugue (all versions) playlist, along with a few others. This is my favorite of the versions of Contrapunctus 11 that you’ve made!
@@smalin oh I see it’s at the end, my apologies! I expected it to be beside the other two versions, but I imagine there’s a rationale behind your ordering
For me, the best version of the best contrapunctus. When I want to listen all AoF, I prefer quatuor string version. When I want to listen to contrapunctus 9 i prefer piano. Contrapunctus 14 string quatuor or organ. And between all this possibilities, this version of this contrapunctus is my favorite. Probably his most complexe fugue and his most "ahead of his time" piece. Very deep, dramatic, hope-less, brutal, and divine. Gentlemen, here is Bach.
It certainly is among the very most advanced pieces written by Bach and, by extension, among the most advanced pieces ever written. This and Contrapunctus 8 are probably my favorites (this one is the inverted version of 8).
@@TheLabecki Thanks for your reply. I totally agree. C11 is the most complex piece i've ever seen. This is also my favorite in AoF and probably being in my top 3 of all Bach pieces. And yes, i knew for the inversion of 8! good point =)
I'm going to sound silly... but I discovered The Art of the Fuge about at the same time I read The Silmarillion... And to me this Fugue WAS exactly what the Ainulindalë must have sounded like... Including the Melkor theme...
Bach's music does not always sound beautiful... but it is great... The opening chorus of Cantata 101 is another example. It all depends what is meant by beauty. A question of viewpoint.
Such Extreme mental fireworks.. These animations are a great service to the music.
You deserve many more viewers and subscribers for the amount of work you have put into your animations.

This piece disturbed me to my core. Amazing animation

One of my favourite fugues ever!
Ab-solutely brilliant performance. The constant crescendo is amazing. Thank you for making these!
I'm a huge fan of yours and this is my absolute favorite video you've made
:-)
Yay, another Bach finally!
5:55 it sounds like he changed the stop of the bass pedals to something ridiculous.
We can't all live up to your expectations, master.

what a fugue, what a fugue
What a fugue
WAF! WAF!
Everyone asks what a fugue, but no one asks how the fugue :(
What is your reasoning for not visualizing the soprano line at 4:12 as a false entrance of the first subject?
It's hard to give reasoning for something I gave no thought to. I could come up with a justification now, after the fact (e.g. the first subject hasn't been introduced yet, those notes are part of another subject, etc.), but that wouldn't explain my process.

Your comment was clear. And you are a first-rate Konrad Swart.
Thanks, Greg.
I added the comment because Smalin has a tendency to misunderstand.

I dont know if you'll ever do this but id like to see what you come up with for Tchaikovsky 1812 overture and include canons
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_(music)
Not that canon i ment to say cannon i misspelled
I always imagine the beautiful pipe organ he must have played on :)

Amazing work !!! I enjoy each of your videos. Will you do more Beethoven's music ?

Well, this piece is definitely not about pink butterflies 🦋
It's as brutal as Bach can get.
😂😂😂

Alain Bruguieres Yes indeed. I’m very fond of ”The Art of Fugue” it sound so genuine, like a remarkable good description about life.
Is my stigmatism acting up?
No, but you might want to get those stigmata looked at...
