    G-Day, I've just brewed one of these this morning, wish I would of watched this first😂, the trick with the lid through the carry handle would of saved me a big clean up. I usually brew 7 day kits, this is a step up, but already I've noticed the quality, the aroma when stiring in the oak was fantastic. Thanks for the video, I'll be tuning in more often, cheers from Èire 🇮🇪.

    hey great helpful videos, just wondering what water are you adding to get up to the 23l mark, boiled, distilled or just tap water , cheers

      Hey Paul, I used tap water in mine. In the future I will be using mineral water from the supermarket as I feel the chlorine affects the flavour a little bit.

      Its best to use distilled water. Even though if you look it up some websites say bottled water or purified water you never actually know what how it could effect your wine. When you get to the more established companies they will tell you distilled. Everyone knows dasani's water tastes alot different than deer parks water for example. Read this from label peelers (very reputable for winemaking equipment):
      If you are making wine from kits, picture yourself as an alchemist, transforming simple ingredients into a divine elixir that tantalizes the taste buds. Though you pay attention to even the smallest details, like carefully sanitizing your equipment and taking diligent OSG measurements, have you also considered the water? Let’s explore why distilled water is a secret ingredient to elevate your home wine-making experience and why using tap or regular bottled water comes with many potential problems.
      1. Purity: Imagine distilled water as a blank canvas, free from any impurities, minerals, or contaminants that could taint your masterpiece. This pristine base ensures that your wine remains untarnished by unwanted flavors or substances, allowing your chosen ingredients to shine.
      2. Consistency: Tap water is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get. Its mineral content and chemical composition can vary greatly, leading to unpredictable results in your wine's flavor profile. Distilled water, however, is the reliable friend that provides a consistent foundation for your wine, giving you greater control over your results.
      3. Banishing the Chlorine and Chloramine Goblins: These pesky chemicals, often found lurking in tap water, can wreak havoc on your wine's flavor and fermentation process. Distilled water, free from these mischief-makers, offers a safer haven for your wine kit.
      4. Mineral-Free Magic: Bottled and tap waters can sometimes be enchanted with high levels of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium. These sneaky elements can meddle with the fermentation process and cast a spell on your wine's taste. Distilled water, however, has been purified of these minerals, ensuring they won't interfere with your wine's enchanting flavor.
      5. pH Balance Harmony: The pH level is the maestro that orchestrates the fermentation process and the overall taste of your wine. Distilled water conducts a symphony of balance with its neutral pH level, making it the ideal choice for your wine-making endeavors. Using water with an unknown or inconsistent pH level can lead to a cacophony of unpredictable results.
      6. When the concentrates in your kit were made, only H20 was removed. All the other elements that were present in the ground and absorbed by the vines are still in the juice. That is why you want to use distilled water. You don’t need to include any unnecessary guests that come with tap or bottled water. You just need to reinvite the one who left in the first place: the water itself.
      In summary, using distilled water for your wine kit is like discovering a hidden treasure map that leads to a pure, consistent, and neutral base for your wine-making adventure. This secret ingredient allows you to navigate the high seas of kit winemaking with confidence, ensuring a more consistent and high-quality wine that will impress even the most discerning of palates. So, raise your glass and toast to the magic of distilled water. Not only is it pure, it’s also cheap. Cheers!

    Hey just wondering, doing wine kits is it a better tasting wine, then the ones u make from scratch. And with these wine kits, do u need any other additives or are they all included, I'm trying to compare the price, if its all included in the kits, might be worth
    The 100.00 bucks, but if I have to supply my own additives, bentinite, acid blend,
    Then it's proberbly not worth me changing, I find some of these wine kits bloody brilliant I really want to try some. Thanks mate awsome video.

      To be honest I really don't know as I haven't made a wine from scratch. The wine kits all come with everything you need except for the fermenter, secondary, syphon and bottles you know all the things for making a brew.

    Quick question, do you need to treat your water with a campden tablet before fermenting like you would with beer?

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  2 роки тому +3

      I really appreciate your question Jonathan. Yes I do treat my water and it make massive difference to the flavour of the wine.

      if it has chlorine or chloramines then yes, the reasoning is that wine will taste like burnt rubber if the yeast comes in contact with either substance.

    Sorry I do have another silly question,
    Do u use the same siphon hose for beer and wine,
    Or do u have a separate one.
    Is it safe just to sanintize the hose.
    Thanks again.

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  Рік тому +1

      Hi @beauty fox 66, Yes I use just the one syphon hose and clean it out with water only when finished. If it has noticeable bits in it I will disassemble it and clean it with brewers cleaner of any kind and rinse and then sanitize it before I use it on the next transfer.

    Hi mate, I've done a cpuple of 8 day kits now but I don't have a carboy. I normally pour the wine into a second fermenter when adding the finings. Would this still work? I can't see why not. Also cam you degass by stirring for 10m rather than using a drill?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Tommy, thanks for reaching out. It's a big yes on all your questions. I use a drill as it's much easier but I did do it by hand as well when I first stared! It just got annoying for me so I made a agitator for the drill and it worked a treat.

    Hi, does the use of sanitiser alter the end flavour?

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  4 місяці тому

      No not at all, the dilution is so great that the sanitizer doesn't even register in the final product.

    If you're going to review a product review it as it is. Once you start adding different things - in this case the yeast, it becomes meaningless. I've fermented a lot of Winexpert kits and if you follow the instructions to the letter surprise surprise you end up with some rather good wine.

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  7 місяців тому

      I feel you have not followed my video properly, It's so awesome that you are a Winexpert fan as I am as well. I would like to point out that the kit was out of date and I received it free because of that. This video is a how to video not a review! The wine itself turned out brilliant and I would make it again using Mangrove Jacks wine yeast it is exactly the same yeast as EC1118. Thanks for taking the time and Cheers.
