Driving for pleasure doesn’t necessarily mean driving in a sporty way. I drive for pleasure in a relaxed and comfortable manner, and Lexus, judging from my experience with RX450h, is perfect for that. There is plenty of performance for any sensible overtake. F-sport in this and other SUV models is more of a styling preference rather anything else.
Lexus make the best Luxury cars. They are very reliable, give good customer service and are very well engineered. The so called "luxury" German brands may be better to drive (in some cases) but don't come close when it comes to overall luxury, reliability and customer service. Mercedes and BMW used to build the best luxury cars up until approx.1995. Audi have never built a good luxury car (just a posh VW ) and Jaguar used to build great British luxury cars apart from reliability issues. Lexus come top in reliability surveys and if I was spending my own hard earned cash, that's good enough for me.
@@NoDice-u3d i drove over 20 years our german brands....since i´m with Lexus i know what reliability is meant to be and the quietness and and dampening is the best i ever had !
Cars like this are not designed for the young sporty driver who's going to be throwing the car around. It's for the middle aged & older people or mums with kids who want a car for getting around in stylishly, luxuriously and efficiently.
Lexus are amazing, I’ve owned an RC 300h f sport Lexus cohoe for 3 years & the E-CVT does not cause any bother, in fact it’s more smooth, had a merc coupe before & you could feel gear changes, this is a smooth box
Its not a box its a planitary gear set and an electric motor. Its very clever. Other manufacturers have tried to make a hybrid but its not as good as this.
Why are all journalists mindsets so fixed on the CVT gearbox? I’ve driven an IS300h for nearly 3 years and it’s an excellent gearbox, the smoothest, most serene drivetrain you can get, drive it at 8/10 and the gearbox just does not bother you. It does need you to adapt your right foot ever-so-slightly so that you learnt he best way for it to deliver and when you do, it really is a five star box. The problem as I see is that Journalists don’t actually live with a car long enough to bother for its real strengths to come out
There are some serious hot hatches for this kind of money that would leave the UX in their dust. However, I believe this isn't what the Lexus is chasing - excuse the pun. This entry level series is aimed at being a prestige city car with great fuel economy, a quiet and comfortable ride that Lexus are most famous for and a car that would make any long journey an absolute breeze. Just my opinion.
A hybrid is the only way to get 181 BHP and 54 MPG. Its fast, smooth and quiet. Road tax is £170. 0-60 more like 7 seconds. The eCVT is great. Its not a push belt drive! It does not drone. The reviewer is not reporting on the car he is driving.
Rory I am considering a Lexus UX The real concern for me is the CVT gearbox moving from a BMW Have to say your presentation of the Lexus UX is beautiful.
I know its an older comment but as a UX owner I have to say you won't even feel the CVT. It's extremely smooth and feels almost like driving an electric car, no gear shifts nothing. Also, because it's not a standard belt and pulley design it has no rubber band effect like most CVT's do. The only slight downside is the noise when you floor the car, but the UX has very good sound insulation so even that isn't that big of a deal imo.
I agree on that part with you, they are more expensive and less eco friendly. But then think how car manufacturers make their money... People are loving the "SUV's", so manufacturers adapt to what the customer actually buys. I hate the bloody things btw.
@swansea007791 Absolutely cheaper yes, but I thought the whole issue with NM batteries was that they lose a lot of capacity with charging over time. Could be wrong though
Really good return to form after the unfortunate Evoque episode. Well done and thanks for responding to the feedback. The point, for me, that this film missed is that the UX doesn't move anything forwards. Should be a range-extender plug-in EV, not a mild hybrid.
People always going on about the f*ing sports. Why can’t a car be quiet and smooth and economical and that’s it? It’s not so sporty but reviewers still talk all about the sports instead of ride comfort, quiet, seats and other things.

Talking of CVTs boringness. I would like to ask why is not everyone talking about very short clutch life of DCTs and their replacement cost in all cases regardless of brand.
