Communication via conversation on the phone, in the case of Complex PTSD, becomes virtually impossible. My job is to talk on the phone. But, I can’t do my job. How can I possibly be expected to essentially coordinate my own claim? I requested they allow my wife to speak for me or communicate via email because obviously I can write. It’s just as challenging as speaking at length about the trauma that put me here, but I’m under no time pressure. If I take 3 hours or 3 days to write an email, no big deal. But I have yet to speak with any insurance rep willing to spend 3 hours on the phone clarifying what I’m trying to say.
They sort of relented on speaking with my wife, but flatly refused to use email. The other mechanism I’ve implemented is visual voice mail. I let all calls go to voice mail and insist on detailed messages or I don’t return calls. I save the transcripts of the voicemails. So far, it is working.

I have had a Monarch disability policy for over 20 years. Costs about $3500 a year. Is it worth it to keep paying this? I understand the company is in receivership.

Richard2003 That is ultimately a decision only you can make. From experience I can tell you that the language in your policy is probably very favorable should you become disabled and you would be hard pressed to get coverage written with similar language at the rate you pay.

Yes you can, as long as you have support from your treating doctors that would be willing to fill out paperwork stating you can no longer work due to your condition.

How does one get medical records with detailed notes from assorted providers?
50yo. Actively had a work LTD policy for 10 years. Due to a hostile workplace I've developed Anxiety and avoidance disorder that resulted in sudden High blood pressure spikes at work that cause blurry vision, stiff neck and sweating. I had xanax prescribed a few years back for work anxiety and had to leave sick a number of times. My boss asked me to only work a few days a week from the office. While I have a medical history of me trying to address the symptoms, i am only starting to address the mental health aspect now. Not clear on how you file for an LTD claim so early without multiple attempts to return to work and what happens if the employer fires or lays you off while in the middle that process? How difficult and helpful are affidavits with opinions from bosses regarding observations on ability and my mental which I'm sure legally my employer would discourage and i think anyways awkward and hard to get.

The most important aspect of a disability insurance claim is the medical information in support of the disability. There is no replacement for well documented medical records. This also will include a doctor who is willing to support your claim, complete forms and potentially speak with the insurance company’s doctor. Please feel free to contact our office to discuss your situation in greater detail.
