The timeline of MWIII is convoluted to say the least, with Zombies taking place in 2019-2021 and MP taking place somewhere after MWII MP, and before MWIII Campaign.

I got that vibe, too. Although it's not all fully connected to the story of the MW series, I'd like to think that this is sort of how Ghost is coping with Soap's death and isn't actually happening in the world apart from the scenes with Price and Laswell and that the John Doe character is sort of a way to show Ghost battling with his demons internally while fighting the enemy externally.
Of course, the real reason is to show off the battle pass.
Update for the story:
Season One: Nolan escapes captivity and continues his role as Makarov's second‐in‐command. He rallies up Konni forces for operations in Urzikstan, then Shadow Company under Phillip Graves command take the fight to to Konni in Urzikstan.
Season Two: Konni ends up infiltrating the Mediterranean Island: Fortune's Keep. They conduct experiments that have left a catastrophic impact in the area. 141 along with Laswell are now tasked to stop the undead threat that resulted from it. Ghost now working alone attempts to cope with the death of his squadmate: Soap. As he tries to work he recounts the beasts Soap used to fight 3 years prior in Operation Deadbolt, this bleeds into the guilt he already has from not being able to save Soap as now he sees himself having to chose to fall to his demons or fight them.

Vanguard tried with its first 3 seasons. I was actually interested with the whole Nebula V story. Then godzilla came a knocking.
MW2 also did pretty well. Pretty much setting up the story for mw3 (even though the mw3 campaign had a worse story than Vanguard).

But really if you wanna consider it canon, just finish the story on your own with what you think mightve happened after season 4 and exclude kong, godzilla and season 5. Same with MW3 here, I think this cutscene is more "mental" as its ghost probably falling into some form of depression and going rogue or something.

for those who are not familiar with the plot: the horse PMCs made the island of fortune a place for testing their bioweapons and also staged an attack on the main building of Urzykstan to begin the spread of bioweapons (zombies)

Yeah looking at these comments I don’t think devs are the problem at all.
First you complain that story continues through multiplayer cutscenes.
Now you complain that story doesn’t continue through multiplayer cutscenes.
Make up your minds before accusing Infinity Ward of not listening.
If you are gonna continue the story through Warzone, at least make it actually interesting. MW2019's post-season story had nothing going on and Vanguard just gave up on having a coherent story halfway through. Cold War handled it perfectly, though to be honest the story was way too good to be relegated to cutscenes, it should have been a campaign expansion.
The cutscenes in MWII/III have been nothing but battle pass cutscenes that scream "please buy me", which demonstrates a clear lack of effort.
And for your "we complain that the story continues through cutscenes" complaint, it would be much more preferable if they continued the story through actual campaign expansions instead of cutscenes that not everyone will see, hence why so many people got confused when Alex and Graves are shown to be alive in MWIII.

Its from the new map, but 2009 (campain and mp), Terminal was set in Zakhaev International Airport, and its the same thing in MW III now, like, every time you start a match it appears where you are. Open your eyes.

I don't get it. I found several cutscenes ( like Valeria escaped from the prison), but these are not in the campaign. It would be a good thing to know what happened after the campaign story. I am interested in that, not these new, fancy multi-characters, sorry. (For me seeing Nicki Minaj as a playable operator and these, makes nonsense)
