I follow Gabby and you popped up on my feed and you are just so much fun! I have been watching all your videos now 🤣 my girl said “ oh she is such a mood I love her” 🤣💖
Love this book tag. I am a major musical theatre geek. Love all the musicals you mentioned. The song Santa Fe from The Newsies is a song sung by Jack who sings about his dream of moving to Santa Fe New Mexico. Great musical! The movie musical is AMAZING! Batman Christian Bale plays Jack. He sings and dances in the movie. There is this OLD book. Well the book was published by in in 1988 but it is called When Dreams Shatter by Lurlene McDaniel this book is about a young girl who is a dancer and loves ballet, but then she is told she has diabetes. Very short book. Some of my all time favorite musicals are Wicked, Chicago, Six, RENT, Jersey Boys, Waitress, Anastasia, Kinky Boots, Lion King, Mary Poppins, Matilda, Mamma Mia, Hamilton, In The Heights, Annie, Sound of Music, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and many many many more!
Also Disappear is a really sad and beautiful song but it is not the saddest song on Broadway , the reward for that goes to both the Stay Alive Reprise and It’s Quiet Uptown or the I’ll cover you reprise from rent . Here’s my case , with the Stay alive Reprise , you can literally hear the heartbeat fade away . For It’s Quiet uptown, as someone who is an aspiring parent, I can’t imagine the idea of my hypothetical nonexistent child dying and you see Hamilton and Eliza go through the unimaginable , unimaginable, I think is only the best way to describe it . Thank for hearing my cases , your Honor , Katie . For I’ll cover you reprise , The first of this song is a duet , the reprise is a solo and it’s at the partner’s funeral. The fact that he’s saying I’ll cover you even though their not here . Gahh I can’t seem to shut up about musicals my apologies.
I live in NYC and have won THREE broadway lotteries in the last month. Six and Hadestown were amazing, and I am going to see The Book of Mormon tomorrow. This video came at the perfect time.
One of my favorite musicals is the 1986 screen adaptation of little shop of horrors which was based on an old movie from the 60s by Roger Corman of the same name It’s got some endlessly catchy tunes in it and you can find it on UA-cam right now for free with commercials but it’s well worth it
And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer, killed me. Both of my Grandparents have Dementia and I sobbed so much listening to the audiobook.
Would love to see more T1D characters in books. The only rep I've really seen is the same one you mentioned with the Babysitters club. When I watched the show I literally cried lol. I was diagnosed only a year ago and it would mean a lot to see more representation, even casual as you mentioned. BTW I have been enjoying seeing anytime you mention it or seeing your insulin pump, etc. in your videos!!
I saw Hadestown on Broadway on Halloween in 2019. I died, was brought back to life and died again. Please give this musical love. It’s so beautiful ❤️❤️
This is really random but abt the diabetes representation I just saw a movie that has it and I felt seen. Nothing to do with books, but in case anyone gets interested it was the new disney animation Red (the movie is just great and there's a minor character with an insuline pump on her arm). Also, gotta love musicals.
As someone who is dying to get my hands on Loveless and who thinks they might be asexual, I 110% agree that there needs to be more asexual representation in books!
LOL the way I screamed when you said Velaris is the fictional world you would want to go to and the question before that was what job you wanted and I IMMEDIATELY thought I would want to be Feyre😭🤣
Please do more content with musicals!!! I am obsessed with Broadway and have seen... a lot of shows (no idea what my total is). Everyone Is Talking About Jamie was made into an Amazon original movie. I have seen Wicked three times and the movie is in production this year. The last movie I saw in person was Matilda the Musical and it is being released as a movie this December! I need people to discuss these things about!!!
I love The Color Purple the recording has Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo and it is incredible. I also loooove In The Heights . Let me rephrase that, I basically love anything that has an association with Lin Manuel Miranda . Just keep in mind I absolutely love musicals . I get to see Chicago in April. I am excited. I also love Mean Girls and Heathers . Both the movies and the musicals .
OKAY WAIT WAIT WAIT HAILEY! I want to comment on the musical theatre school and the shared love of broadway for hooooours. But first….THE BALLAD OF SARA BERRY IS MY FAVORITE EFFING SONG! No one has ever heard of it!!
@@KatieColson IM CRYING MY HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMED THAT SONG AT THE THESPIANS FESTIVAL ON MAINSTAGE LMFAO the harmonies are truly burned into my memory for all eternity
Katie, about Diabetes- there is a new YA novel coming out late March called ‘Sugar’. By Carly Nugent. Diabetes is a main plot point and it is ownvoices.
Also it has a really pretty cover, the main characters name is Persephone (maybe there is a metaphor there?) and she finds a dead body! It is contemporary but maybe there is slight thriller elements?
My two favorite musicals are two you haven't seen! Newsies is all about the first formation of unions-in this case it's the news boys who sell papers on street corners. You get to see these young children stand up for themselves against the rich newspaper owners. The music is wonderful! Anastasia is all about the discovery of Russian princess Anastasia who was lost during the takedown of the last Royal family. Wonderful music as well.
OMG I love the vibes of this video, I love musicals as well. Having seen an insane amount live. I’ve yet to listen to Hadestown but I will remedy this immediately. Thank you for all the chaotic energy it is amazing, as well as all the book recommendations/mentions. One of it not my favourite musical is called ‘Blood Brothers’ so beautiful and just perfect. Again thank you for the energy and time you share with us 🤠
I have asthma and I’ve had it since I was a child. I would also love to see it represented. The only book I’ve seen it represented in is Punk 57. And just like you, I freaked out in the best way possible.
Everybody’s talking about Jamie is fab-u-lous! It’s set in the city 10 minutes from me, and is based on an awesome documentary! Well worth watching! Love the video, I’m so here for the musical/reading blend it makes me so happy 🥰
I've been checking Libby for Verity on a monthly basis for about 4 years. They have never had it at my library. I was raised on musicals. Love them! That was what my dad and I did when I was a kid. We would go to plays and musicals on the weekends together. Btw, your top is workin' today!!!
Wow I am so embarrassed to say I’ve never realized that diabetes is rarely or never spoken about in books… I’m so glad you pointed this out. Also have you ever read Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann? That was the first book I ever read with an asexual MC and I learned so much from it. Not being asexual myself I can’t say whether the representation is realistic but I’d love to hear your thoughts on it if you ever have read it or plan to!
Thank you, Summer. It is frustrating not have it represented. But it’s better than it being represented poorly. I haven’t read that yet. Thanks for putting it on my radar
Sal and Gabi break the universe by Carlos Hernandez has a main character with diabetes I’m pretty sure. Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko has an ace side character.
As many times as I have heard you talk about the Mindfck series, I don't know why I haven't gotten them yet! I don't do much rereading but I have read Verity 3 times.
Just saw “Mean Girls” last night and it was amazing!!!! Also, the book “Getting Off” has ace/Demi sexual representation done well! So does the YA verse novel “Vanilla”.
Another fantastic video i wanted to recommend you a musical Its called blood brothers very beautiful songs and a very powerful story I hope you have been well
I think I need to read Loveless. I'm trying to determine if I'm asexual or just traumatized. It's been hard to distinguish and I feel like a fiction book may help me??
Unpopular opinion (maybe?) but I don’t get the Mindf*ck hype.. like at all. I read the first very short book and it took me forever to finish and I ended it feeling zero interest in continuing on.. am I reading a different boooook?
Don't read Chocolat by Joanne Harris, AWFUL diabetic rep. But Dutch House by Anne Patchett isn't too bad for t1d characters. The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell towards the end has a diabetic kid, it's very good. It's my favourite book of all time, but not for that reason, it's awesome by itself. Speaking as a diabetic myself. It is literally the worst. I hate it so much.
Hey Katie, big fan love your content. I was wondering if you ever read DOLORES Claiborne BY Stephen King. Best fucking book I’ve ever read. Please give it a chance
Oh my god, I am dying... You're doing my tag!? Holy shit this is surreal!!! Also, agree, musical music is just the best!
Omg YES! I adore this tag! Thank you so much for creating it! I love musical theatre so much! Almost more than I love books, hahah
katie😭😭the fact this is the best video ever just because it's you + musical theatre + books????? i'm already in love and i haven't even pressed play!!
I follow Gabby and you popped up on my feed and you are just so much fun! I have been watching all your videos now 🤣 my girl said “ oh she is such a mood I love her” 🤣💖
I love how we get to watch you film these during sprints and than to see it all come together on UA-cam! Perfection 👏🏽
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy that. I figured I would love to see it too

Omg what a fun book tag I love it!! 😍
Ok I died when you said Hadestown😭😭 I saw it in December with the all og cast and it is the best musical I’ve ever seen. Truly unparalleled!
OMG I SAW IT TOO! The original cast is elite!!! I’m obsessed with them. Thank you for agreeing with my fangirling

One of my favorite musicals is Rent. The movie version is decent also. I love your taste in musicals!
Aw thank you! Yes I adore Rent

They made Be More Chill into a musical??? AND a musical based on Henry the 8th?? Thank you for introducing some musicals along side some books!
Yes!! They’re so good too! Especially Six. It’s a bop
This video is awesome! Satisfied reminded me if when I was obsessed with Hamilton lol

The Girls are Never Gone is a YA sapphic horror that the main character has diabetes, and it’s spoken about throughout the book.

My favorite musical is Wicked because I’m basic, but if you’ve never listened to Man of La Mancha or the Secret Garden musical I’d recommend those
Katie smacked king of crows around 😭😭
I was laughing out loud at King of Crows but I agree soooo much! Exactly!
Yes totally agree about the king of crows 👀
I have asthma and I’ve had it since I was a child. I would also love to see it represented. The only book I’ve seen it represented in is Punk 57. And just like you, I freaked out in the best way possible.
