He loves his area of pursuit and communicating it in an appropriate manner for more universal understanding. He’s just a great educator and keeps it enlightening and engaging and fun. Top-drawer and classic JRE. Thank you Brian, you’re a legend
The Sean Carroll episodes are fantastic too. Sean is on the same level as Brian Cox as a science communicator. Brian is a little more charming but Sean is equally as articulate and adept at explaining things in laymen's terms.
Joe Rogan is is such a curious and insightful interviewer. When people say the people that Joe brings onto his shows are so intelligent, they forget the fact that only two highly intellectual beings can have such interestingly mind-boggling conversations. I mean I am astonished and awestruck by how many things he knows and his ability to ask the questions that he does. Thank you Joe for having the ability to extract such interesting conversations from anyone you interview, you truly are a genius!
There are a lot of things I don't agree with Joe's views. But my interest isn't about him, my interest are about the conversations. In most of his videos he brings out some legit questions and I like how he actually listens and interact with the conversations. He doesn't cloud or blurs out the answers from his guests. So, I like listening to most of his podcasts. Others don't catch my fancy, but a lot of times he does bring in some interesting guest.
A very closed minded person I know called Rogan “a gateway to the alt right” in an attempt to write him off completely. Granted, this was 3 years ago and Joe has evolved since then, but any intelligent person could see his honestly and open-mindedness.
Great interviewer, the best color UFC guy in the business, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, Taekwondo black belt, semi-pro pool player, avid bow hunter, proponent of weed legalization, healthy eater, exercises frequently and ignores requests to do movies because he wants to be home more. He's obviously an extraterrestrial, sent back in time to makes all of us guys look inferior...lol.
Brian constantly mentioning that he does not know certain things and rather mentioning what could be the articulated possibility shows he's a true learner. What a brilliant conversation that was. I spent the whole 2 and a half hours completely immersed in it. He's a gem of human.
Brian will live to over 100 years old... easy. Sitting in front of Joe, he was about 52 at the time but looks like he's in his 20's. His mellow demeanor and overall air of happiness is something we should all strive for.
That's due to severe time dilation. Brian Cox is actually a black hole. From our perspective, he hardly ages. From his frame of reference, however, everything's normal.
That's where so many teachers fail. When they express no enthusiasm the students don't feel comfortable with excitement over anything, and learning is of course far more boring.
@@katinkaaa2951 yeah i find i learn a lot more from teachers when they express their love and passion for their subject. It makes it more enjoyable for both the learner and the teaher.
@@katinkaaa2951 I think that’s partly because they find it difficult to be enthusiastic about the simplest of scientific principles. Imagine being a kids football (soccer to the freak shows) coach and find the tactics and adaptation to different teams and game plans interesting, but you’re stuck trying to teach them how to kick the ball properly. Same for some teachers I imagine.
@Nerd in Disguise As true as that is, teachers have to be the ones to engage the students, students go from class to class, it is usually a few hours before they get to your one, and by then all they think about it to leave.. So the teacher has to be the one to engage, that's what they should be paid to do.. Teacher can't be the one to feed off of student responses, atleast for the first few weeks as the students get accomodated to the subject.
One of the best Joe Rogan shows so far. Touched on so many good topics. Brian Cox is really good at explaining. Joe is really good at asking the right question and letting the guest speak.
Alfonso Mcpatel Brian Cox has been a guest on the JRE show once before (that I remember) so if you enjoyed this episode (and who wouldn’t??!!) you may want to check out the other one, too. Sorry I don’t remember which episode it was exactly...and that I’m to lazy to look it up for you ;-)

@@Caleb-il7omcorrect. my wife is a teacher and what she is paid is not proportional to what she has to deal with. During 2020 I was working nights and she was teaching virtually and I got to see first hand what she deals with on a daily basis. A decent amount of our teachers, including my wife, moved to a district one county over because they pay *slightly* better.
A very good episode. And while Brian Cox is an enjoyable speaker, one should not forget Joe Rogan's excellent ability to maintain a conversation with such a wide variety of guests.
jtet rfs doesn’t get enough credit. He knows a general amount of information on sooooo many topics. You seriously can’t expect him to be an expert at everything.
Held his game here and asked some interesting questions but he’s had a lot of practice and this isn’t the first time with Brian on the show , but still you’ve gotta rate joe getting much better at this
Its fashionable to make fun of Joe, but theres a reason he has the most successful podcast of all time. He represents the average uninformed listener who may or may not know much about the topics his guests are specialists in.
Joe is at his best as an interviewer when he knows he doesn’t know anything about what the interviewee is talking about, and he just asks simple questions that regular people want to know and lets them talk.
Incorrect to say "..he doesn't know anything..". Joe does have a better understanding of some of the concepts than an average guy coz of his genuine curiosity.
When they talked about light sabers and when Joe said it’s kinda dumb that we can see the lightsaber move. He obviously doesn’t know how it works. In that universe, people with the force move faster than the eye can see
Oh you have no idea. Easily THE best TV watching here in the UK. From particle physics made easy to the powers of nature that shape our lives, Brian delivers everything from a base of profound knowledge.
Agreed, although they have already gone over a lot in great detail about the things we want to know. I think he will have him back on at some point but maybe when they make a new scientific discovery.
PLEASE JOE, HAVE BRIAN COX AGAIN. I’ve listened to this podcast at least 7 times already and I feel like it’s my first time watching every single time. So fascinating the way he explains cosmology and astronomy
Not only is Brian’s voice angelic and calming , and his demeanor is incredible , but the joy u can sense and see when he talks about this , we don’t deserve him .. I’m glad Joey gave him almost 3 hours
Absolutely. thats his gift, explaining concepts that the layman can understand. i went to see Michio Kaku a few years ago having read a couple of his books and felt the talk was directed at schoolchildren, he explained everything like he was talking to a bunch of school kids when in fact it was a hall full of adults who had most likely read his books, the best part of the night was when the audience got to ask questions. thats when the real in depth stuff got talked about. there were heaps of super smart people in the audience that were well educated and could grasp the concepts and got to the really indepth stuff and thats when it got interesting, if there had been no q&a from the audience it would have been boring as shit. Brian Cox has the gift of explaining stuff that we normals can understand without being treated like dumbos. He's by far the best at conveying these concepts in a way most people can grasp. And best of all you can tell he's completely absorbed ih his field, he clearly loves sharing his knowledge in a way normal folk can understand. seems to be devoid of ego, just full of wonder, I think he is fantastic,
That's why the British accent automatically makes him sound a lot better than our American accent. It's just so more interesting and proppa and believable
@MUFC Soccer? I'm American and I'll admit that our football is a dumb name considering we copied the name and we use our hands. I personally call "Soccer" football and I call our football, "NFL"
@@mmaphilosophy Soccer got its name as a shortening of “association football”. It mostly caught on here in the US and I think in Australia, where other variants of “football” developed. I think American football evolved into the mostly-hands thing, I vaguely remember hearing a thing about it but of course the details are fuzzy…I just remember that it made our football name make more sense.
Watching Brian Cox on a show like this, and all the other documentaries he's doing, is like feeling a bit smarter in the end. And without feeling stupid in the beginning. His way of listening, intepreting and explaining is so nice. It makes you wanna learn more. And more.
The episodes with guys like Brian are the best because Joe knows to when to actually shut up and listen and he actually asks decent questions from a layman's perspective.
I can listen to Brian Cox all day. I love how in awe of this universe he is. And we all are. He is the best teacher I have ever listened to. His knowledge and passion for the discovery of things in the universe is just so inspiring to a humble man like me. Have the wonder of this life and where we are in this universe and enjoy the mysteries that are in front of us. I guarantee it would not be a second wasted
20 minutes into the podcast and this guy is amazing. He is so chill and smart but talks at a pace that you can follow and understand what he is talking about. I haven't felt overwhelmed by him yet. Keep it up Joe!
A great podcast. I am always impressed with how Joe holds his own in these conversations. Not so much due to his knowledge, which he openly admits is limited, but having just enough knowledge to engage Brian to allow him to expand on these amazing subjects. Brian is truly a gift to us. Really enjoy listening to him.
People who so easily dismiss actors as knowing little forget that they are TRAINED to MEMORIZE a massive amount of data in a short period of time. You can't be stupid to do that. And that means something. Imagine George Clooney given say 10 pages of medical jargon PER WEEK for YEARS, when even people training to be REAL doctors might have trouble remembering. The fact Joe was on a sitcom and had to memorize dialogue, or even his comedy routine, it isn't surprising to me he knows so much about so many things in general. And you could argue Joe isn't even a SERIOUS actor. Someone like Anthony Edwards, also on ER had mORE medical Jargon to remember for years longer than George. AND MAYBE we all hope we could get a doctor as seeemingly compassionate as Edwards appeared onscreen.
Man the difference between this guy and Neil “lemme interrupt you real quick” Degrasse Tyson is like day and night. This dude is so polite and genuinely excited about the stuff they’re talking about and he’s even explaining stuff in a way the average person would understand.
My thoughts exactly. Neil Degrasse Tyson is so full of himself. Even though I'm sure he is smart and good at what he does I can't stand to listen to him for more than a few minutes.
@@jackgavan9624 I have spent a lot of time in the UK and my observations are that Britons are full of themselves. In the United States people seem much happier and more friendly with strangers. I have traveled the world and have never seen another country that comes even close to the United States.
Brian possesses every positive attribute an educator can have. I can imagine students fighting over seats for his lectures. His demeanor while guiding listeners through the most challenging concepts of this era never waivers in enthusiasm. Also his wealth of knowledge is just plain scary. What an awesome podcast....
Aside from empathy. He doesn't seem to understand why people want more from life. "What more do you want?" Not everyone wants to be an explorer or cares about exploring the universe, they just want to find purpose. He seems not to understand that (or feigns not understanding.)
Mister Spock told US the world was heading into an ice age back in 1975. Mister Spock was better at lying to us than Brian. Brian isn't being believed. Students aren't even from this country. I've seen 30 foreign students walk right passed a woman getting 100 punchs to her head. They didn't call the police to save her. Students ARE totally selfish and no one should imagine such horrible creatures.
@@SirQuantization Why try to find a purpose? We are here because of the right chemicals/molecules interacting & creating life. There doesn't have to be a reason or purpose. Joe is curious, and is able to follow and ask good questions. He listens carefully to his guests and is fascinated by them. He is not a physicist, like many of us here. But thats why we like him. We relate to him.
Until he has a guest who's funnier than him. Then he seemingly gets intimidated and starts interrupting & derailing conversations for no apparent reason. (See Theo Von's recent podcast for a great example)
Joe is not always like that. Anyone he remotely disagreees with or is coming from a different point of view or is skeptical about he’ll talk down to and over them, cut them and not listen or get drunk and be a dick

@@katinkaaa2951 yeah i find i learn a lot more from teachers when they express their love and passion for their subject. It makes it more enjoyable for both the learner and the teaher.

I’ve never heard anyone explain something as complex as space so simply and so calmly with no hint of condescension.
Absolutely. thats his gift, explaining concepts that the layman can understand. i went to see Michio Kaku a few years ago having read a couple of his books and felt the talk was directed at schoolchildren, he explained everything like he was talking to a bunch of school kids when in fact it was a hall full of adults who had most likely read his books, the best part of the night was when the audience got to ask questions. thats when the real in depth stuff got talked about. there were heaps of super smart people in the audience that were well educated and could grasp the concepts and got to the really indepth stuff and thats when it got interesting, if there had been no q&a from the audience it would have been boring as shit.

Brian is such an underrated educator, and explains these complex topics so eloquently. Definitely one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to in recent times.
Brian Cox has the best voice for teaching. He explains the universe better than anyone I've ever heard.
I love this man! You can see how excited he gets about the things he’s saying! He’s so passionate and so into what he studies. Love seeing joy in the face of those who have found their love.
"You can't have an opinion about gravity. When you jump off a building, you can hit the ground. That's it. Doesn't matter what your opinion is." 1:44:56
Gravity is just a theory. What about the electric universe!?
Centre Forehead ugh...
But feminists are gonna be mad!
Perhaps. But you CAN have a discussion/opion on what the phenomena that we call "gravity" actually is. It really bothers me when these people who appoint themselves as the public face of "Science" say things like that.
@@DrStephenStrange perhaps, unless the context of his statement is construed.
Things I took away from this:
-Everything can literally be gone tomorrow.
-It really sucks we won’t be around to see what our civilization will become.
-A headache.
Will Paris We may not see what happens, but we are also the reason to why our civilization will evolve.

You forgot the notion of the beautiful accident of creation - and that life in earth are very rare configurations of atoms... possibly 😄
I believe in reincarnation and I think the soul is infinite like life and the universe and we will see everything in every life and we got infinite time to colonize other places in our galaxy then in the universe and so on and on
Han Goku. And you’re right - at least if it’s true that the amount of energy in the universe is a constant. Then we truely do live forever (just as different atomic configurations)
I love seeing this guy talking and smiling. He makes me love space and science in general.
Brian Cox looks like he is every age all at once.
That's actually very insightful and thought provoking not gonna lie.
Haha ! Genuinely made me laugh out loud that 😅
Hi
can't tell whether he is 30 or 60. I guess ill split the difference and say he is 45-50
Brian Cox is 53 years old
Your welcome
why is the audio so quiet?
Jamie is salty because Joe has someone that actually understands physics on so Jamie sabotaged it.
@@thermal1580 you right
*in-ear headphones & adjust volume Cheers
@@Jack-2day shouldn't have to. Cheers.
The audio is wayyy low. Yes I use headphones. Never had this problem with any other podcast
I love how Brian Cox has this permanent look of childish wonder on his face. So refreshing.
M Lab cant get enough of him
Could you imagine his face when he sees poon for the first time
Yes, Yes, Yes,
Justin Gilbert 🙂
People use the word "amazing" so casually these days but it is truly amazing when you learn about the universe. Most of what we know is probably 0.0001% of what's out there and much beyond our comprehension.
Love this conversation. Joe has insight and asks really good questions but is happy to listen to the answers from an expert. Looks like joe and brian loved the interaction. Return visit for brian please
Just a reminder that Brian Cox is worth $8million, and yet he dresses like a common man and wins his audiences with his intelligence and knowledge. What a great guy!
Most of the millionaires dress normally it’s just the pop culture that makes it seem like everyone’s rocking designer. Yea sometimes those cocky young millionaires might wear designer but they soon realise that it’s all materialist and doesn’t matter as they grow
Only utter toolbags dress for attention or to be a walking billboard for someone else.
And he played keyboards for D-Ream. 🤘
@alex mendivil research, tv appearances, education programs, books, audio books, seminars, interviews and so on
@alex mendivil He's done TV presenting for years, was the keyboard player in a dance band years ago and does Arena tours which sell out. 8-10 thousand people a night in an auditorium increase your wealth very quickly..
It must take so much energy for Brian Cox to explain things in a simple way. He does it well, just as Carl Sagan did it so well.
Carl Sagan would have loved the chance to be on Joe's show and reach so many people who might not get to hear about physics and cosmology. And they'd both geek out about theoretical aliens xD
at the start its hard but after its no big effort really, if u been doing it for years it becomes second nature.
Richard Feynman too.
NDT
That's how it's taught, and how they learn it.
I’m convinced that if Einstein were alive, Joe Rogan would be able to get him on the podcast
Joe would listen to him
Einstein didnt kill himself
Oh fuck yea. I'm surprised Trump hasn't been on
...Jamie pull up video of orangutan fishing for Albert
Joe "Pass Albert the blunt" Rogan
Brian’s mind is phenomenal! The way he can explain these things in simple terms is such a unique quality! Could listen to him for hours. Thank you Joe for this interview! 👌🏻
Best way i think about "million" "billion" and "trillion" is as follows: a Million takes 12 days to count to. A billion takes 32 years to count to and a trillion takes 32,000 years to count to. (The exact values have all been rounded up or down). This just shows the extreme differences between the numbers.
I seen something similar, a billion seconds is 1976 or some shit
Conosis Unless we jump through a wormhole.
I actually have that on my desktop to blow my mind whenever I look at it.
Out of pure interest mate and not being pedantic where dya get these figures from? I ain't arguing with em but who spent 32,000 years counting?
Kenneth Wilkinson do the math, 86,400 seconds in a day, 1,000,000,000,000 divided by 86,400 is 11,574,074... divide that by how many days in a year, so 365.. and you get 31,709 years
Scientists like Brian who, with real pleasure say, "I don't know the answer" are the people I learn the most from. The universe doesn't care about your opinion. In order to understand the natural world, humans need to accept the truth about what we do know and embrace the search for answers to the things we do not. Scientists on UA-cam make the world better for all of us and I'm thankful for that. Also, I can stay in bed and learn stuff.
As Neil de gras tyson said "the universe is under no obligation to make sense to you" wise words to live by... And that quote doesn't even have to apply to space
Yet he called ufos a load of old bollox! So what did I see take off from a field in 1976middle of the day, with other witnesses!??Two red cigar shaped(Side on discs?)&fly up the side of a hill! Two of them!!!🤔🥴😱
@@markjones336 have you heard Neil de gras Tyson thoughts on UFO? Good watch haha
Iestyn Evans yeah, another fuggin know it all knows fuck all.
Keean Robertson I agree. He bring the full picture up at once. Neil needs to sit at cern for 20 years to get this knowledge!
Brian cox has a way of making complicated things understandable for the average joe (no pun intended)
It's a good pun. Own it. :)
David Cox cowarded away from flat earth questions during his recent Reddit Ask Me Anything. I remember reading questions that were getting upvoted to the top then I would refresh and they would disappear.
@@BillHicks420 Cowarded is more likely. They were tough questions. And it was an "AMA"... except flat earth. They only take dumb questions, like NaSA..." How's it like living in space? "
@@BillHicks420 They were tough questions. I could ask them to you and I bet you wont answer them but would run away from them. Would you like to try?
@@marshfriend Mr Rogers had that same skill of acting like he was so enamored about imaginary worlds. So I'd have to agree with you
Of all the scientists I've ever watched speak Brian Cox is the most enthusiastic of them all. He so very much loves to learn about the cosmos and share information about it. God bless.
One of the most intelligent people in the world , he’s so fascinating to listen to. We need him on again.
