    Just think...Geddy is SINGING and playing this bass line simultaneously. Wow! Talk about multi-tasking.

      I think I have OCD because since June I have been going into my garage and playing this song along with track one on ASOH again and again - I can see how many takes each night bc they record as MKV and show time (60-80 times a night maybe) - Not bass and singing but alex's guitar/vocals (mixed voice) note for note - Geddy not only plays this effortlessly, but he wrote the music (with alex whoever did what on this I have no idea). I am trying to paint by numbers just one track and in that time they probably recorded Hold Your Fire. Singing and playing this is easily possible, singing good and playing is hardly possible, and singing/playing/knowing you wrote the song out of thin air makes Rush Rush and me some D-Bag on UA-cam pouring my heart out over a year old comment.

Thanks for sharing your skill with the bass players of the world, I can only hope that the young cats of today won't solely rely on watching to learn a complex line, but will develop the ability to hear the line to interpret it as well. Thanks again for sharing your talent and for the wonderful tone! Best Wishes, DQ.............

I love so much of what you do and what you've done that I went and got all the Crisis music I could find, and really draw from it as a musician but primarily as a bass player. I am so happy for you that you have come to own a Wal, especially one as stunning as in this video (its almost like Geddy's red one!) Moreover, to read and in a way live your journey to acquiring one, as a young Canadian growing up in the 90's and early 2000's listening to Sean Sammon on the radio with Puddle of Mudd (primarily the song "Blurry" which was in heavy rotation at the time,) but primarily soaking in all things Yes, Rush and Kiss (thanks to my incredible father) I look eagerly forward to the day when I come to own one too as it is my dream instrument! Although I myself do not own one I am a part of the Wal bass owner and appreciator community on Facebook and encourage you to join their page if you are on Facebook.

    I've wanted a Wal for around the same length of time as you did.
    They really do have a sound all of their own: it's just so....woody.
    On the one hand I'm deeply envious, but on the other, if anyone ought to have a Wal as nice as that one then it's you.
    As soon as I saw the thumbnail I yelled "he's got a feckin' Wal...woohoo!"
    Perhaps the nicest part is that your long wait was finally brought to an end in such a nice way, with good memories associated with the instrument right from day one, which will be with you every time you play it.
    Sincere congratulations mate.

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113 8 років тому +1

      Thank you. Everything you said was nice of you to say. If someone went through a bunch of back comments they'd be able to come up with many quotes of me saying, "Yes, I'd love a Wal, but I'll never have one because I think the cost is just too much to be spent on one instrument." My mind is a funny place and a switch got flipped or something and here I am. But, as you alluded to, for me, the story is bigger than the bass and that's something that money can't buy. I stuck upon a sentiment in an earlier response and I like it so much that I'll repeat it here - I think the story revealed as much about just how distrustful and cynical I am, as it did about how open and generous Sean was and I hope to use it as a catalyst to change my way of thinking a bit.
      Thanks again for your comment and congratulations.

      Actually, Sean Sammon sold it to me for far less than he could have gotten and I sold it back to him for around the same, as was our agreement from the start. I recouped a portion of my travel expenses when I sold it back to him. They are cool basses, but I don't think they've ever been worth what the price they were being sold for, even back in '91 when they went for $3,000 new.

    So, I know yet again I'm commenting on an old video, but that shows just how much I watch your stuff, but what is your favorite bass? I notice you use Guild alot, and I can't tell what this one is, but from what I've seen, you rarely use Fender Jazz for Rush songs. I was just wondering what, in your opinion, is out there that's better than the Jazz. I've never played any Guilds. You've kind of become my authority on bass. Also, what's your amp setup like, and do you use any pedals or off-amp EQ processors? I'm on the search for that perfect tone, man.

      No problem. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The Guilds are among some of my favorite basses. The bass I used in the video was a Wal, which I no longer have. Actually, I think I used the Jazz bass on more Rush covers than any other bass, though I could be wrong. The Jazz was my main bass for a time. I don't think you can go wrong with a Jazz bass. They are extremely versatile and have withstood the test of time. All of my EQ comes from one SansAmp pedal or another. I believe I was using a Para-Driver on this video.

    The other day The Body Electric came up on my iphone while on shuffle and I thought about you. I was going to request that you play it (I didn't realize you had covered it years ago) and then I saw this and it did so much more than satisfy that itch. This is the most amazing cover I've ever seen or heard and it's very personal to me. I can't get enough of it. I remember the first time i heard this song was on MTV and I was captivated by Geddy's bass playing. Thanks Troy! You're amazing!
