I've studied Mandarin for 3.5 months now, about 3 hours per day. I'm surprised at how much I understood of this. I probably got lucky. Happened to know many words.
The ladies laughing nearby and your shrieking made me laugh soooo much. I loved China when I last visited for business, I can't wait to go back and try this!
Actually I had my ear canals cleaned in China about 9 years ago, and the gunk that the old guy who cleaned my ears out was unbelievable. I thought that my ears were always clean by me showering every day and using a swab to clean my ears after I showered, but apparently they weren't by what the old guy pulled out of my ears. Yes, it looks scary, but a well trained person will not harm you.
In fact, cleaning the ears is a very comfortable thing for the Chinese. All you have to do is close your eyes and relax your body. Thank you for uploading such a wonderful video and hope to see more about the lives of Chinese people.
Still your best video. The transformation of your facial expressions are so entertaining as well as the fact that you can communicate with these local ladies. Such fun!
@@koreantroll7463 That happened in an awkward situation once. I was at a banquet and a bug flew in my nose as I was talking to someone. It hurt even after I got the bug out embarrassingly.
man, your mandarin is superb. As an ethnic chinese myself who learnt mandarin as a second language, I didn't even know the meaning of 入乡随俗. Have to say, I am thoroughly impressed by your level of proficiency. Keep it up!
It looks relaxing and painful at the same time. I cannot speak Chinese but judging by how well you can communicate I’d wager you are quite fluent. Well done!
Wow. I don't speak Chinese and my first thought was "Even the accent is great!" and then she commented on it too. I'm trying to learn Spanish however it takes a bit as I get older to get things to stick. Nicely done video too. You are very brave to try the ear cleaning. .;-)
Cleaning ears is not the best thing because unless you have a medical condition with your ears, your earwax actually protects your ears from infections etc. I am ethnically Chinese, so I also don't recommend going for any ear-cleaning service in a place like China because you won't know how sterile their instruments are, not to mention the layer of skin in your ear isn't very thick so it could tear easily (even micro tears) upon abrasion and you don't want cross-infections (from one person to another) to happen.
This was fun and funny video. Full of joy and laughing. Hot Chinese boy, what an interesting offer. I came here, from Thai Talk with Paddy Channel that you had joined.
lol, that’s so fun. Ears cleaning is necessary. It’s popular in China. but make sure you find a professional one. Most of the massage store have it. I don’t suggest you find someone from outside, if they don’t have license, they might Hurt your ear or the tool might not very clean. But most of them are very good. And it’s very comfortable. Do it no more than once a month. Not too much.
What few people realize is that Chinese people have dry, flaky ear wax as compared to Caucasians who have wetter earwax. Thus, they create tools that are like little spoons to scrape out the wax and when used to it, can feel like a massage in your inner ear. I use a little bamboo scooper at least 4x a week just to massage my inner ear. Also, if you get the chance, try ear candling. That's when they use a cone shaped piece of wax paper, light the top end, put the narrow end in your ear and the suction brings forth a LOT of junk from your inner ear. Amazing amounts of crap. Another friend who lived on the Mainland said they also do a hydrogen peroxide flush (heated) to clean things out. I did it for him but he was not satisfied with just regular peroxide, but demanded that it be warmed up. He was a high maintenance friend.
Saw this title on my UA-cam homepage and I was like “what? I never knew this even I’m a native Chinese” 😂 Yeah there are huge difference in things among different provinces. Thanks for the interesting introduction. Worth the subscription recommended by my friend 😄
Hi Jonathan - my wife is Sichuan Chinese and I have seen it many, many times in tea houses etc. In fact I thought it was a Chinese thing in general. We have never had it done due to hygiene concerns (and my wife is a doctor). Cheers.
hi! the videos you make have made me super interested in china, so thank you! I was wondering if you studied Chinese at any universities in china, because I want to but I'm not sure how effective it would be considering I know absolutely nothing and I heard the classes are quite big so you don't get to practice talking much!!
Thanks Laura! Yes, I studied Chinese at 2 different universities in China. I did a 1 year exchange at Fudan university and a 1 year language course at Tsinghua university. It is SO effective doing a language course in China. I know people that have gone into the classes not knowing a word of Chinese and coming out a year later able to have decent conversations in Chinese. Trust me, doing a language course in China will be 1000000x more effective than anything you could do in your home country
In Zhongshan, Guandong, I went to a place that would give you an hour long shampoo (head massage) with someone giving you hand and arm massage. I fell asleep because of how relaxing it was and woke to someone cleaning my ear!
Great to see a foreigner like Blondie in China who respects China and doesn't talk trash on the internet about China while living there. I hope China jails serpentza but makes Blondie in China adored by all Chinese.
John Junior thanks John!!! I’ve been learning for quite some time now (7 years) so I actually think my Chinese is super awful considering how long I’ve been in China Hahahaha!
This local auntie not only sell massage and ear cleaning service but also give caring advices as if you are her own daughter. It is an interesting difference between oriental and western customer service manner...
I speak Chinese to since I was 5. Her vocabulary are way she is able to speak is very good! It’s just that the tones need to be worked on. Not saying mine are perfect either. But I am also blond haired and am foreign to the language and always learning!
Hello, I just started following your channel and enjoying your travels especially introducing your parents to breakfast in China! Wasn't the ear cleaning fabulous? My mom use to clean mine growing up in New York. I'd love to meet up and travel China with you!
AWESOME. she just dislocated your shoulder and relocated it ... no time to be sentimental :) i have experienced this type of mentality in eastern europe and southern europe as well. no prewarnings - just do your thing.

All the faces you made while getting your ears cleaned were priceless. A 10 on the cuteness scale.
The fact this girl speaks Chinese so fluently is seriously impressive!
