  • This piece is V.S. Narasimhan's quartet arrangement in his ongoing efforts to combine the beauty of Indian melodies with the glory of harmony present in the Western Music system.
The music used is the piano reduction of the quartet score.
    Original composition: Lalgudi G. Jayaraman
Performers: violin: V.S. Narasimhan - piano: Adelaide Edelson.
Ms Edelson is a well known pianist and performer in the Washington area.
It was amazing for Narasimhan to experience how quickly she got the feel for this music which is really foreign to her. In addition to her focus and dedication to music, it was clear that she possesses a unique perception in order to be able to play this without having ever delved into Indian music.
This was performed as an informal concert at the residence of Mr. Fred Shoup whose gracious hosting is gratefully acknowledged.

I must have listened to the legend LJ’s Desh Thillana hundreds of times and yet I can’t get enough. This rendition with the violin and piano is magnificent. Thank you VSN sir for giving that western touch to these beautiful compositions. I don’t know what I was doing 15 years ago but I definitely missed out listening to these when they came out.

Beautiful rendition. I'm glad to see that the westerners are learning about the beautiful art form that is Indian Carnatic Sangeetham!
