  • In 2001, a pilgrim named Barbara Massion from Munich had a pretty bad day on the Way of St. James. She skillfully converted her bad mood into creative energy and came up with the idea of a pilgrimage route from Munich to Lake Constance. (Back then you could only make a pilgrimage to Santiago from Lake Constance.)
After her return she sought and found support from Reinhold and Monika Hanna and many others such as the Franconian Jakobus Society in Würzburg.
2 years later, the Munich Way of St. James was officially inaugurated in May 2003 in Schondorf am Ammersee.
On July 29, 2023, over a hundred friends of the Munich Pilgrimage Route gathered in St. Jakob am Anger at St. Jakobsplatz in Munich.
Abbot Johannes Eckert celebrated a celebratory service with the support of the Poor School Sisters.
Afterwards, many of the worshipers made their way to the Marian Column on Marienplatz past the German Museum, following the path.
We rested at the Rosengarten and near the Thalkirchen Bridge on the Isar beach.
There, pilgrim guide Michael Kaminski from the Spiritual Center of St. Martin pointed out that at Cruz de Ferro, 2000 km away, you also find many pebbles from the Isar that people have taken with them from this place.
For centuries, pilgrims have been laying down their burden symbolically in the form of a stone at the cross of iron near Foncebadon before starting the final part of the Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela.
After the spiritual edification on the shore of the Isar, the group of pilgrims strengthened themselves listening to sounds of jazz in the Großhesselohe forestry.
Two authors also made the pilgrimage in the group:
Carmen Rohrbach, the well-traveled biologist and travel writer who has written two books in German about the Way of St. James alone ("Way of St. James - Hiking on the Path to Heaven" and
"Shells on the way - With the donkey on the Way of St. James through France").
Website with links to the books: carmenrohrbach.de/
and Gudrun Brandstetter who recorded her experiences on the Way of St. James after recovering from breast cancer in the book "My path continues - After a serious illness on the Way of St. James".

The day ended with a prayer in the Protestant Jakobus Church in Pullach led by Pastor Martin Zöbeley.
In this video I captured the events of this anniversary.
It was a very nice day!
    Your Jimmy
