I seen loads of "irish" people who were actually American, complaining about Native American people using this song on tiktok. Irish people and Native American people literally are meant to support each other, we have helped each other many times. I'm irish, and I love that Native American people are using this song to bring awareness to the oppression and abuse towards Native American people.

to all the people getting angry about Natives or anyone else using this song as a symbol of their resistance - even though it's originally Norse-inspired, Wyndreth herself has said
_"It is an anthem of empowerment--not a song meant to serve a specific blood or people or skin. If you find strength and power and your own voice in it, this is your song and i hope you sing it with the strength and rage and beauty and power that is within you--whoever you are. Women are not ever Less Than."_

Nice to see another taken with no credits given, or with the permission, knowledge or compensation to the original artist, originally done by wyndreth in the 90s.
Depending on who you talk about this song there's a few meanings behind it, the original song was named my mother's savage daughter and it was inspired by the original artist's norse heritage/heathenry but the celtic/norse pagans were also called savages.
This song however is about a witch, depending upon the person you talk to you'll get a couple different views but they're both the same in the agreement that it's about a witch.

@@tamietaylor8620 maybe Sarah had more vocal training and a voice that's sweeter and more in keeping with mainstream music, but I don't think that was the point of the original comment recommending Wyndreth's version. They clearly didn't put down Sarah's singing, just pointed out what she did. Sarah could have very easily said her version was a cover and given Wyndreth credit where credit is due. Instead she decided to steal someone else's song and make money off it. And then try to silence them when they called her out. Not very "empowering to women" of her, especially considering the topic of "Mother's Savage Daughter". The comment was trying to give recognition to the actual creator of the song. Sarah was a thief here, plain and simple. A pretty voice doesn't change that. Good vocal control, shitty person.

Hi, I'm answering your question even if I'm not the best one to do that since I'm not Wiccan nor entirely appreciate its basic philosophy (I mean, you should at least truly acknowledge that it's a mixed up religion created in the 1960's in America, a pot pourri of classical gods and goddeses and heathenized christian rituals), but if that is your choice, my suggestion is to buy yourself Scott Cunningham's books (they are the basic wiccan studios), and follow some quite great youtubers here, like the Witch of Wonderlust, and the Green Witch for a clean and day by day magical approach. Among their followers I'm pretty sure you can also find some kin spirit, and maybe a coven. Keep studying, so as to see which path is truly yours (after all, there are a myriad currents even in Wicca), try to acknowledge which you feel drawn to, study a divination method, try to see if there are metaphysical shops nearby, or a magazine giving you some tips...and feel lucky, things are so much easier now than during your mother's time, what with internet, supporting groups and no more the need to hide (witches and heathens were seen as weirdos up to 20 years ago...). Sorry if I seemed a bit grumpy at the beginning, and good luck with your path, whatever it may be

You should do some independent research, since with some branches of Wicca, you can only practice if you've been initiated into a coven. (Most notably Alexandrian Wicca, I think)
Look into it, but be careful, because for some reason Wicca has drawn a LOT of dumbasses posting misinformation, so whatever you read always make note "okay, this might not be true, I'll have to find another source to verify." It's really unfortunate that we have to do this, but you have to watch out.
Good luck on your journey, I hope whatever you end up believing in, it makes your soul feel at home.

I don't care if we are male ot female, light or dark, religious or spiritual... We should follow laws, but not societal norms!!!

My grandma is half Aleut and is an elder in the tribe. She has the beautiful dark skin and black hair. Somehow my dad came out whiter than a sacrificial lamb, and so did I. But this song speaks to my soul. I love it. I'm Irish and Aleut. I love both.

According to the songs writer, it belongs to ALL of us. It’s not an Irish song or an Indigenous song. It’s a female song. It connects us to the women who came before us and stand beside us and who will come after us. My ancestry is African, Irish, English and Native this song makes me think of all of their respective struggles.
Her words: “It is an anthem of empowerment--not a song meant to serve a specific blood or people or skin. If you find strength and power and your own voice in it, this is your song and i hope you sing it with the strength and rage and beauty and power that is within you--whoever you are. Women are not ever Less Than. We are the singers of storms, the fire made flesh, the inexorable power of the mountains, the kind warmth and the cutting lash of the wind. We are half of the world and we have been taught to speak softly and behave mildly because we are easier to control that way. ;) I am honored that daughters of The First Peoples find a voice here. And daughters of the Sea Wolves. And the daughters of great-grandmothers, grandmothers, and mothers, wherever they lived and and sang and died. All of you are their living legacies and they hear you singing; be assured they are proud of you. Whoever you are, you have a voice that cannot be silenced. Together, our voices cannot be unheard.”
