Mañenguito en especial! Gracias Maestros ..Los Super 4!
At the time I viewed this video there were 37 thumbs down. How and Why is that possible? Can any of you 37 play like any of these TRUE MASTERS? Keep your NEGATIVE vibes, and opinions to yourselves and show these GREAT MUSICIANS the RESPECT they deserve. They've EARNED it! Ameruba😎
I don't know why, every time knowing there is El Negro Horacio Hernandes in a group makes me always curious to watch and as always: interesting. Horacio visited Indonesia several times. I hope this band perform at Java Jazz one day. Such a great band, indeed. Thank you for sharing this great video taken by quite a musical camera persons and great latin communicative jazz music.
I would imagine the sheet music was more of a piano lead, a few steps above a lead sheet just marking the different feels/parts of a tune. Everything else seems to be pure improve and interplay. I could be wrong though.
Cuban bad ass quartet for you lovely people!!! Brings back memory hanging with Horacio in London at Charlie wrights. Extraordinary human being and amazing drummer!!!
Noté que el publico alli presente no tiene la capacidad para valorar la magnitud del talento de estos Maestros Cubanos y Boricua! Lastima pero los que si lo hacemos dichosos somos!
Gios timbale solo at around 18mins is a good example of how Gonzalo has taken Cuban Clave into interstellar space (as he's been always doing!) - masters of time and space still grounded in clave concepts but doing so much with it - it's a study to keep aware. I asked some of his sidemen how they did it (and without charts onstage!) and they said basically 1 word : Concentration! Something not super popular in western listeners but hopefully Jazz fans are a different mindset.
Well this many years later I came around to this again and I really like how the second tune is dealing with a 7/4 phrase length for the solos especially. And they’re playing something like 3+3/4 Claves over that 7 1/4 notes.
!! Pa su Mecha !! Si existen lox extraterrestres musicales de galaxias benditas..que bueno que nos visitan y nos den conciertos de ALTURA... gracias ...yo seguire practicando y estudiando ...je ...
Yeah right on! I caught onto the 7/4 phrasing of the solo section of the second tune, have you figured out how they’re working out the melody in that one? Seems to go over a number of 7/4 phrases or??? The solo section seems to fit about 3+3/4 Claves into each phrase.
Jejeje...no tenía que solear ahí..y se metió...en muchas ocasiones pretende ser muy sobrador en sus conciertos..con Rubalcaba le toca quedarse tranquilito.. desde joven gola ha sido así.. sobrador... inmaduro.. total
It takes a small fraction of the concentration needed to play it but it’s certainly worth concentrating, good for the soul and good for the brain. Once you latch onto the rhythm hold on for dear life because they will push that edge! For instance the second tune is in a 7/4 phrase (especially the solos section)and there are about 3+3/4 Clave patterns in that phrase so go figure!
But when Gio is playing simple cha-cha marcha you've got to hear they're playing underlying heavy duty double and quadruple time in frameworks that are quite complex, Gonzalo and his cuban counterparts take clave and superimposition to the fullest possibilities you're going to hear outside of Africa.
@@CapitaineBeaudet The second tune, “Pone La Clave” is in 7/4 but there are like 3+3/4 claves over those 7/4 notes, he never forgets the clave, come on bro, he's cubano!

I wonder how difficult it was to write the charts for this performance. Amazing.

Isso não é música da América Central, caro amigo. Isso que você ouve é música de Cuba, ilha caribenha, jazz afro-cubano
Masters of their craft !!

insane
That's right Tal Ariel; my favourite pianist right there in action !
Simply amazing.
What is the name of the 1st piece?
I hear ALOT of herbie in how gonzalo sets things up as he is improvising. he's managed to successfully fuse this with the afro Cuban clave.
Not much clave there as most of the songs are more of a chacha groove
But when Gio is playing simple cha-cha marcha you've got to hear they're playing underlying heavy duty double and quadruple time in frameworks that are quite complex, Gonzalo and his cuban counterparts take clave and superimposition to the fullest possibilities you're going to hear outside of Africa.

Do you have the names of these tunes?
Hi David.
1) Volcán
2) Pon la clave
3) Cadete constitucional
And the rest appear at the beginning of each song x
