They are hard, yes! Sadly I haven't covered all of the rules, but I think I've covered the main ones. Thanks for commenting 😁

... Yuletide greetings from the CzechRep ... that was nourishing ... your rule on (potentially) standing passengers who "get ON/OFF" a vehicle does not seem to fully hold water for planes where standing is (physically) possible but not allowed ... (perhaps sufficient headroom is enough to support this usage) ... but it was a revelation to me ... I´ve always been foggy about embarking / disembarking; boarding; alighting... ... thank you ...

Greetings! The "on/off" rule, it seems, applies when you step onto or off the transport form, even if you eventually have to sit. The motorbike is perhaps an exception - even though it involves sitting, we still say "get on / get off" 🙂👍

@@EnglishwithRupert ... rules and exceptions ... your lectures always inspire me to peruse sources I wouldn´t have perused without (them) ... thank you ...

    1)a)Where are you traveling to?
Can I say b)'To where are you traveling?' I think it is not common, but It looks correct grammatically. What do you think?😊
    In part 16:09
2)a)I am at the hospital visiting my aunt.
Can I say b)I am at the hospital and visiting my aunt.
    C) I am at the hospital, visiting my aunt.
    in part 22:21
3)What will you be doing at Christmas/Diwali?
Is 'On' correct in American English?

    • @EnglishwithRupert

      1) Yes - that's fine (it ties in with my point on relative pronouns)
      2) These examples all work
      3) I'm always a little nervous to say how American English works, seeing as I am British, but my understanding is that prepositions work in the same way for this particular issue 🙂👍

I understand after to we use infinitive. Why Do we use to after hope? What does to mean here

    • @EnglishwithRupert
      @EnglishwithRupert  День тому +1

Hi! This happens in response to a question where the verb is clear from context and so is omitted e.g. "Are you stopping for Christmas?" "I hope to" (i.e. I hope to stop)

This is a person. because is is non action verb or a linking verb that doesn't need an object but subject complement instead,so a person doesn't act as an object.
