As said it is the duty of each and everyone including NGOs and societies to initiate cleanliness drive. Gobas/Lambardars of every village in Ladakh can play a better role in mitigating the gargabe issue which is a growing concern for Ladakh and its environment. Hill councils (LAHDC, Leh and Kargil) should look into this serious matter and funds may be allocated. It will be my humble request to school Principals, students, labourers, youth, outsiders/visiting tourists, tsogspas/societies and layman to take responsibilities in order to free our beautiful land from garbages. Municipal Committee should impose fine on erring people and strict vigilance needed. Install CCTVs wherever needed/deem fit. Let's pledge to root out the garbage problem in entire Ladakh. People throwing garbage collected in cement bags is a common scene now . Nepalese workers do this all the time. Construction waste is brought in trucks at night and thrown on road sides. Every village should be aware of their surroundings and not let these things happen.
.Its a dark reality of ladakh nowadays , we the people of ladakh dont even care of our land and making our land and water resources contaminated . And by seeing our activities the rest of the people coming outside from the ladakh ( i.e the merchants , truck and taxi drivers , and even the tourist) follows the same . In the name of development we are assassinating our mother nature, and we can see the consequences from last past few years . Our manicipal corporation is trying their level best , but as a citizen we have to try at least not to throw garbages and other waste materials every where . And i have seen a lots of people feeding stray animals specially dogs , donkeys ,etc with their plastic and other waste products along with the leftover food. I request all my lovely younger and elder brothers and sisters ,its not a crime to feed a stray animals but please seperate the foodwaste and plastic waste seperately so that they can also enjoy the food properly without any piece of polybags and glass . At last i think its not too late to start . Dont wait for any others to come forward and start the cleaning initiative infront of your house and surrounding , just be yourself and start cleaning from the small portion of your surroundings everyday atleast for 10 min. And as a ladakhi we have cultures to use a dry toilet , what happens now do we really need wet toilets in ladakh . wet toilets gets absorbs in our soils and gets combines with water level which later on becomes contaminated. On other side if we use dry toilet (and can use wet or dry tissues to clean) , we get natural manure . which can be use in the fields and which are reach in Nitrogen , phosphorus and potassium . If we travel outside we dont have choices ,so we have to use wet toilets . #saveladakhforfuturegeneration
