- Sam Hyde and Nick Rochefort are discussing first Dave Attell after Chris Lynch asks the boys about the comedian. This reminds Sam about Larry David and the show 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'. Sam saying the writing is too perfect. After this Sam and Nick talk about Mike Judge and his films. They touch on Justin Long's Performance. Finally Sam Hyde watches his favorite comedian.

Nobody thinks it's cool, but some episodes of Frasier are incredibly well written. It just is, no matter what you think of the show. Multiple levels of awareness between characters and audience, references, call-backs to previous lines, all the mechanisms of excellent writing are there.

A lot of curb isnt scripted - making it that much better
Sam really is talking out of his ass when he talks about movies and TV lol
Curb kinda does suck tho. It’s non scripted so it’s like watching bad improv the entire time where each person is pretending they’re not doing improv. This results in a lot of back and forth just recycling what the last guy said.

lol of course Nick nails the Attell voice.
I agree with Sam 95% of the time, but I feel he's wrong about Curb, although I feel that it may be because he's unaware of one of it's unique elements. He's saying that it's perfectly written, but the reality is that they aren't given lines, and I believe it's the only major show like that. They're given the subjects, and from those subjects, it's up to the actor to improv and make it funny. That's why it's so good, as the quality is almost solely based off of the actors themselves rather than the writing.
Curb is almost entirely improv JS
No it's not. There are scenes that leave room for improv. Usually the scenes where they are sitting at meals and stuff. But like 80% of the show is completely scripted.

I’m someone who will laugh at a news story about a man punching a real baby in the face because he thought it was a dolly - but I can still recognise how brilliant ‘Frasier’ is. And Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce are massively underrated as comic actors.

I think Portlandia made Portland much worse than it used to be. That show attracted the worst people in the country to Portland lol. We'll never know why Sam doesnt like Bill Hicks
I've seen a lot of comics say they don't like Hicks. Anyone who really follows him knows why. He became extremely full of himself towards the end. He didn't care to make people laugh. He wanted to be the smart profound guy. Not the funny guy. That rubs other comics the wrong way. They see his work as kinda pretentious and the people that worship him as not comedy fans but politically minded people. If you think about it, no one really quotes Hicks anymore. We had an epidemic of Hicks clones like Dennis Leary but then that all went away. For a while, comics got back in their lane as funny people.

@@911WASanINSIDEjob420 oh, it transcends comedy? It definitely transcends past the comedy to a lecture. I'm a fan of Bill Hicks but you couldn't make my point more valid by saying he "red pills" people. You instantly made it political instead of what you find funny or entertaining about anything he does. Which validates my point about his biggest fans being more politically minded and not comedy fans. Comics are definitely correct about that and you proved it. The reason you like him is because he avatars as your political mouthpiece. Which is the dirtiest way to misrepresent dead comics. We have no idea what side of politics Bill Hicks would fall on today. He was vehemently liberal in his politics. It's the same thing with Patrice O'Neal. Everyone thinks he would be a red pilled king of the manosphere. You don't know Patrice if you think you can anticipate that he would fall on anti woke politics if he was alive today. Anthony Cumia knew him best and he is the most anit woke person before anti woke was even a term. He quotes "the thing about Patrice is you wouldn't know what his take would be regarding wokeness today. He could've supported it in some way. That's the special thing about Patrice. You just can't anticipate what his take will be." To whittle it down to "comics be jealous" is the most uneducated take on a situation that permeates throughout American comedy. They don't like Hicks because they find him to be unprofessional. Have you even seen the comedy club walk-ins when Hicks is screaming word salads incoherently at an audience while they walk out perplexed at wtf they just saw? He spiralled in the end. Hicks has one of the most detailed downfalls in comedy history. The fact that he didn't want to make people laugh as a comedian is offensive to the way a comic thinks. They think he looked down on the audience. You have to understand what that means to a comic.
@@911WASanINSIDEjob420 you couldn't prove my point with more validity. He "red pills" people? You made it political instead of what you find funny or entertaining.
