During this video tutorial, I’ll be showing you How to setup a web server from scratch and install Magento 2.3. The video will be split into several chapters:
    ►Chapter 1: Build a basic server 02:08
    ►Chapter 2: Convert to a web server for Magento 2.3 17:35
    ►Chapter 3: Download Magento 2.3 with Composer 34:55
    ►Chapter 4: Create a database for installing Magento 2.3 46:50
►Chapter 5: Install Magento 2.3 via the Setup Wizard 49:04
    ►Chapter 6: Bonus - Install Sample Data 55:36
You will also find a link to an article in the Description below. The article is designed to help you follow along with the video at your own pace. It will also contain any commands that I use in the video, so that you can easily copy and paste them. This means that you won’t have to keep squinting at the screen to see what I’m typing. To make it even easier, each of these commands that you can copy & paste will also contain a timestamp next to it, so that you know exactly at what point in the video I’m using them.
But before I start, I just want to acknowledge that this tutorial is not for everyone. The topics are aimed at nerds like myself who want to install Magento 2.3 from scratch. However, the tutorial has actually been designed for any skill level to follow.
If you’re interested in using Magento but would rather skip all of the nerdy stuff, then I would highly recommend the SIP-100 Package from Nexcess.net. They will build you a web server and install Magento 2.3 so you can just get straight on with setting up your store and adding your products. And if you ever run into any technical issues, you can always get in touch with their 24/7 support. I’ve put a link to that in the description below just in case you’d like to check it out.

For those that are having trouble downloading Magento 2.3 with composer. Try downgrading your version to 1.8.0 by running: sudo composer self-update 1.8.0
Running the latest version of composer creates some problems regarding which package composer is using to install the magento/composer. Hope this helps!

I got to the very end and couldn't install the cron or change the htaccess to 2G. It said I didn't have permission. My power went off momentarily during the process so I think it was on my end maybe?? At any rate, it was an EXCELLENT tutorial. I deleted my setup and will try again tomorrow. It really rocked. Thank you very very much. After a couple days of google searches and tutorials you made setting up Magento without errors a piece of cake.
I use VirtualBox with Ubuntu Live Server LTS 18.04 on Windows 10.
One issue I encountered was during the configuration of phpmyadmin. I was not able to log in as root but I could log in with phpmyadmin account. (Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost')
In order to fix this, I logged in as root in mysql cli and created a new user with full privileges. I then logged in phpmyadmin with this new user and followed through the rest of your tutorial.

This tutorial is excellent. However, I did my M2 install an almost completely different way! I used a cPanel host and installed via Softaculous. Which enabled me to install without a CLI. However, this created an issue with the CRONtab which this video covered. Well done on creating a truly useful video in a comprehensive and clear manner. Probably the best video for M2 on UA-cam!

Hi Craig! First of all, I wanted to thank you very much for all the effort in producing such a great quality and helpful content. It really have lighten up my way. I was just wondering what would you suggest after setting up this server architecture to manage the emails. After setting up the development server with just the IP address, a second step would pointing the domain to this so then Apache2 is able to handle emails as well? I am not an expert on the matter so I am trying to figure out how Magento will work out the automated emails is there is no mail server service set on the same server, if any is necessary of course. Appreciate if you can give me some thoughts on that. Take care! :)

Interesting... but one thing I wanna know if possible. What is the difference between running an installation with composer and without? if there are. what are the advantages?

    • @DigitalstartupUk
      @DigitalstartupUk  5 років тому +1

I've found working with composer a smoother experience than using Git or FTP to deploy/update 3rd party files. Modules that support Composer will check any other dependencies that are required to install the module and install if necessary. You also don't run into issue with Permissions or Ownerships. Also, you don't have to backup modules installed with composer because all of the information is held in a couple of files which contain instructions on what is installed and active. I'm sure there are loads more things I like about it, but these are the 3 things that immediately come to mind.

Thank you for the positive comment. The "Cleanest" way would be to restore from the backup, which is probably what I might do. However, you can keep all of your changes and remove the Sample data with this command (bin/magento sampledata:reset).

    AllowOverride All
" . Your video shows/instructs to add it to the very, very end of the file, whereas Magento's official instructions states to add it directly before "‘’". Does it make a difference if we follow the video or Magento's official instructions?

I've never used DO Spaces. I believe the concept behind the service is to bolt on Static Storage to your existing Droplet. Unless you're planning to have a gigantic amount of media then I don't think it's something you'd need. As I've not used the service, I'm not sure if it bolts onto your existing Disc Space or is mounted as a separate drive so I'm afraid I can't answer your question, sorry :(

    Hello,
    Very nice tutorial.
But you have only 6K views 'cos you have put everything in a single video.
    Just an advise:-
Try to break every chapter and modules into a video series naming part 1, part 2 and respectively.
this will help the developer to choose what he/she needs and also helps youtube to give you more presence as right now youtube is confused to where to show your video. for me, your video was on the bottom of my search list.
    BTW Thanks:-
a lot apache re-write was the solution for my problem thanks.
And also I am now planning to move my server from AWS to Digital ocean now.

Hey. Thanks for the positive comment. I've also slowly moved all of my projects over to Digitalocean. Hello! Really appreciate the fact that you spent some time to make this video and help us newbies out there!
    I have a question though.
I have been trying to install Magento 2.3.3 to a remote Debian 9 server but I didn't choose the "Install using Composer" way. So I have unpacked the Magento .tar.gz file from the Magento official website into the /var/www/html directory. However when I access the /setup address, I don't see the setup page but instead I get a 500 internal server error code.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

    • @DigitalstartupUk
      @DigitalstartupUk  4 роки тому

Sounds like an Apache Config issue relating to rewrites. That being said, the GitHub method isn't recommended unless you are a Magento Developer Contributor. Commercial setups should use the Composer Method. If you're still having issues, drop a post on the forum and a community member or myself will get back to you. (digitalstartup.co.uk/)

Thanks a lot for your response! In order to set up Magento as soon as possible, I deleted the Debian 9 server and replaced it with an Ubuntu 16.04 one. I've never known changing the Ownership of a filesystem to cause something to slow down. Normally, it would result in something either working or not working. Of course, it's entirely possible that changing the Ownership causes something to "timeout" due to lack of access, which could cause delays whilst waiting for the action to time out. But I doubt it.

Sounds like you firewalled yourself out. When you try to connect via SSH (e.g. Putty) do you still get a blank screen followed by a connection error 1-2 minutes later? If this IS the case then you can use the SSH Console in the DigitalOcean Dashboard. That one will bypass the Firewall so that you can update your Firewall changes.
