Wow the best interviewer in video games, Ben Hanson, is back at it again! Sparking great conversation with a guest who has a lot to share. Great work Ben!
Really cool interview! I am wondering if you will see the human inhabitants of the 3D world. I think that would be kind of immersion breaking for me. Does anyone else think like that, too?
It's still a crime that Ben/Kyle/Kelsey were close to talking about Pokemon like three times during GOTY, even just to 'give it its props' and somehow managed to skip over having the conversation entirely. What does the franchise have to do if in a single year they have two of their best games ever, have a village exile a kid explicitly "leave this village, go out there and die, we hate you" while your friends on the inside are sending their Pokemon to help you survive OR the complete shakeup of SV, legendary pokemon brutalizes your friends parents, mauls them to death, raised alone with a legendary Pokemon and his dog, his dog starts dying and the entire journey is to save dudes dog only to find out his parent has been dead the entire time and replaced with this horrific AI trying to replicate them It feels like at this point Pokemon can never be mentioned outside of the most surface level conversations but if Link picks up the sword again or cloud says something edgy it warrants 40 hours of discussion :(
Do people know Pokemon Co. forces Game Freak to rush and release unfinished games, while Nintendo let's their devs. go wild without time limits? The end results just prove the Zelda devs. have way more opportunity to be creative and make a good product. Game Freak is just part of Pokemon's marketing machine. I have hope that Pokemon will chill out and let Game Freak have a 5 year development cycle one day.
@@Chicken008 Sure? and under those circumstances they still pumped out two of their best games ever in the same year Obviously I wish BOTW for the WiiU was the baseline for what an open world Pokemon game was, from the visuals to the scope and traversal
@@Chicken008 Do people know Game Freak is one of the three owners of The Pokémon Company and Nintendo is another one (Creatures is the last one)? The problem is Pokémon is a running machine with many moving parts and they didn't bother with increasing the dev cycle (yet) despite the mainline games getting much more complex. Hopefully after Gen 10 (I doubt they'd want to miss the anniversary) they change their plans, get more external help for remakes (including Let's Go) and improve their know-how in hd/open-world development..
Really interesting discussion about team sizes. Especially with regards to Game Freak. Reading in between the lines I think when you have a smaller team that has matured together over several successful years and people suddenly suggest you enlarge that team by a factor of x10 or more that's a scary prospect and maybe just not how some ppl like working.
Ben is an amazing interviewer, but James is clearly not a great interviewee, to be honest. He often answered questions super briefly without any elaboration, killing the flow of the conversation. He was also super tight-lipped about all the Game Freak stuff, probably because they drill into all their employees to never say anything.
The best interviewer in games media back at it again! Very excited to listen to this one! (Also want to say really looking forward to Plucky Squire, looks absolutely awesome!)

I've been saying it for years. Ben is the best in the biz.
Something about this interview felt off. It didn't seem like they had good chemistry.
Not everybody is PR or media trained. James still tell some interesting insights and stories in spite of that.
The guest had a really hard time forming sentences. Not even the best interviewer in the games industry can do anything about that.

Hi, it's Espeon. Thank you for your time.
Wow if they had stuck with the sci-fi brawler game, they probably would've got no attention. Smart move, leadership
