- World champion triathlete and Specialized Racing team member, Javier Gomez, shows us what it takes to train and compete against the world's best. The hours of swimming, riding and running are hard to comprehend.
Specialized does a great job with these videos, great athlete and thank you specialized
I often hear how triathlon is getting faster. New generations forgot how good Gomez was. His 400k PB is 3:54, 1500k 15:32. He and Alistair were always pushing pace on the bike, especially on hilly courses like Madrid. Frodo was often 2 minutes down after bike leg. They managed to run 29:07 and 29:15 at 2012 Olympics without shoes with carbon plate. I think Javi has over 40 WTS podiums and over 10 World Cup wins from 2006-2008 before WTS circuit even started. It is quite an achievement, for example Norwegians Blu&Idem together have less than 10 WTS podiums. Javier was unbelievable, 5x ITU world champion, 2x 70.3 WC, X-terra world champion, Hy-vee champion (200k winner prize money race that everyone raced) and many more
one of my all-time favorite videos!
Alister Brownlee says Javier Gomez is the athlete he most admires ,,, thats respect
Most times I read a post I really agree with on a triathlon vid its by you Barchetta!! Good to see ya again!!!
Espectacular , que bueno tenes diciplina y todo al alcance para disfrutas de lo que gusta, felicitaciones, aguante el deporte..............
Awesome video, thanks!!
This sport is relentless.
What a warrior.
GOAT
@Evanc1231 final purse is 40.000$ for the champion about 20.000 for 2nd and 15.000$ 3rd. Every race big purses are on it also
@Evanc1231 It varies on the success and marketability of each athlete. He is a two time ITU world champion, so that makes him one of the most succesful athletes. I am pretty sure he has made well over a million USD. However, triathletes don't make nowhere near the overinflated $20 million overated basketball, soccer players, etc make. Triathletes work for their money day and night, 7 days a week. Most of these other "athletes" simply sit at a bench and throw away their money in booze and drugs.
can you guys do more videos on this hero? he's ITU and 70.3 world champion!
Distances don't really reveal much. The majority of what Javier would be doing is solid quality work. High intensity.
Usually olympic distance - 1500m swim, 40km bike, 10k run. Sometimes they'll do a sprint which is half of each of those distances.
worlds best triathlete probably 500,000 a year if they win high paid races and have good sponsors. best soccer player 300,000 a week every week
Does anyone know what song this is, the Spanish guitar with the beat?
awesome
he'll make millions in endorsements!
@barchetta575m Well said as always barchetta! Hope you are well and training is going good!!
Gomez was there (Brownlee brothers) he doesn't party, not everyone as soon as they reach their target throw it away.
Except the Brownlee's aren't endorsed by Specialized. But I totally agree it would be nice to see how they train.
You should do one of these about the Brownlees
@barchetta575m cool thanks!
vaya Javier!
I know I only realised it these were all on athletes endorsed by specialized after I'd posted it. Ah well.
the difference between him and the other triathletes covered by specialized in these videos is that he trains specifically speed sessions on the tarmac many times a week...his training schedule is much harder than that of frodeno's
LOL...Frodeno trains a lot harder
PONTEVEDRA!!!!!!!!! GOOO!!!!!!
@kambingliar They Zoot. I cant see them well enough to tell you the model.
How name this song 1:02
Anyone knows what brand of shoes is Javier using in that vid for his track session and the race?
how many ITU races are there per year? every week or so i see some post on Facebook of Javi winning another ITU, and it always makes me think that they always have to be travelling
MÁQUINA
What distance of triathlon do these professionals compete in
congrats on the silver
Cual es el titulo de la cancion de guitarra que suena?
Ok yeah I was curious because I almost thought these guys did nothing but Iron Man's 24/7. That would be ridiculously impressive
3:30 how much do Itu athletes make? does anyone know?
What kind of Aero Bars is he using??
What shoes is he wearing?
He's wearing mizuno
What shoes are this? 4:02
Guys, How much Pro triathletes like Gómez or Brownlees brothers make? I saw Javier driving a very cool porsche... But I have never been able to find out anything about their salaries.
frannelk It depends of the races he wins but more than 300,000 dollars per year
just hebbie-jeebies :o
This is one of the most ignorant comments I have ever read. ALL professional athletes work very hard to get to the top.
Saying that most professional athletes aside from triathletes throw away their money on drugs and booze is extremely ignorant. Get off your high horse.
25 swim, 350- 400 bike and 100 run? thats not much tbh, except the swim, there are triathletes who do over 700 bike a week an run about 150km.
There aren't.
IDK how swimmers get called "the greatest athletes in the world". When these guys have to do three different events back to back.
soccer work for their money too
no, anyone in proffesional sports works 7 days a week to get there, if you had millions you'd party too
Lame how the broadcast guy makes a podium on a WCS race look. If these guys ever touched a bike, or ran a 5km they would know! Lame!!!!
trust me no triathlete will do 700k and 150k week in week out...
George elliott he said 350-400km per week on the bike.
yea Frodeno said up to 700k, so he is referring to that, but yes, that would be the top end of a block 2-4 weeks before a race and starting to cut back leading into taper
