The saddest part of this is how the interview was impressed with Carlton’s academic performance and had high expectations for him. Will was immediately looked down upon but soon earned the respect of the interview by being himself. That’s all Carlton had to do. He had it in the bag but his jealousy of will got the best of him.
Agreed. If Carlton had just been his usual self, he could've walked out of there with a full scholarship with all the trimmings on it. But as you said, he let his jealousy of Will get the better of him and he tried to be someone he wasn't and look what he got instead: rejected from his dream college, suspended from school, forced to face the disappointment of his family (especially after he lied to them about getting in on a full scholarship) and the hard truth that he let both them and himself down in one of the worst ways possible.
What I find most sad and reflective of the world we live in is no matter how much you work hard, study or give up to attain your dreams, it will usually all be decided by someone with a cavalier attitude in a 5 minute meeting. Meanwhile, the guy who has mocked you, belittled you, doesn't care and only wants an easy life will have all those dreams handed to him on a plate - because he was born taller, wittier, more charming or just naturally more intelligent than you are. This happens day after day to millions of people. Life is deeply unfair.
anicetune usually that’s true but on that one your point is completely bullshit. Carlton did that to himself, lied about it, and couldn’t give credit. If he would’ve been himself that wouldn’t have happened. Don’t make excuses for some ones jealousy. The point of the whole episode was be yourself
No ones been themselves since like 2008.... Nowadays everyone's like a robot.... Same music .... Same hair cuts.... Same slangs..... Its pretty damn sad what the human race is becoming
I really disliked Carlton in this episode. Will never told him to act like that, he just went and did it, and then blamed Will for "ruining his life" and told him to "go back to Philly". What an asshole he was
He wasn't really an asshole in general nor through-out the show. When someone like Carlton busts their ass everyday to get even a chance to get into Princeton and then someone like Will, who didn't even try, gets an offer, it is enough to make anyone do something out of character.
Crucifier61: Right. It is true that Carlton really messed up in this episode (he should have acted like himself instead of like a bad imitation of what he thought that Will acted like, and the death threat was really stupid). But yes, he did what he did after he saw that Will got close to being accepted into Princeton without even trying. So he misjugded the situation and put on a fake "rap master" act. And when it became obvious that he had failed to impress the man from Princeton, he simply got really desperate, tried bribery and threats, which is when he blew his last chances. Also, Carlton was often portrayed as having less social skills than Will. So he was never able to charm his way through life like Will did. So... it is very understandable that Carlton got angry with Will in this episode. Sure, it is true that Will can't be blamed for Carlton's mistakes. But I can still understand why Carlton would hold a grudge against him after this, just because of envy.
Carlton acted like an ass from the get-go. He’s an A-student in academics, and when it comes to common sense, he’s a dumbass. Let Red Forman be his dad, see how he acts.
@@Furienna Well, the reason colleges have these interviews is to help both the schools and students see if they're the right fit for each other. The Princeton interviewer noted about Will's grades being lower than requirement, but Will impressed him by not only showing that he was a smart kid underneath all that swag and street, but that he also wasn't afraid to be himself no matter what, and the interviewer potentially saw him as a student that could bring some change to a seemingly stuffy Ivy League school like Princeton. I can also understand why Carlton felt like his hard-working efforts were for naught after Will got into his dream school by just being himself and not busting his ass almost at all. But Carlton shouldn't have let his jealousy and insecurities overshadow his courage to be himself. Had he just gone into that interview as his usual self, he could have blown the man away with his grades, great record, and love of academics, and walked out with a full scholarship with all the treats and trimmings on it. But instead, he (very poorly) tried to imitate his cousin to ride on his wave of easy. And then when he realized he'd blown his interview, he desperately tried everything else to change the man's mind (proving it part of his life's plan, begging and pleading, bribery, etc), only to dig himself a deeper and deeper hole with each one, until he finally buried himself with the death threat. And then to top it all off, after this, he tried to cover up the situation from his family by lying to them about getting a full scholarship, hoping he could intercept the phone call from school about his behavior. But his dad got the call before he could, the truth came out, and Carlton was forced to face his hurt and disappointed family. And then he understandably but still unfairly blamed Will for everything just because Will unintentionally upstaged him. All because he couldn't keep the courage to be himself.

I know it seems intelligent to say that "he was being himself because he was copying Will", but that is not the point. He was clearly imitating Will.. thus he wasn't being himself. The real Carlton was not like Will at all. What you're talking about is desperation, which isn't a personality, it's a character trait. Also, Carlton isn't really desperate, as that implies he has no options. He absolutely does, he just allowed himself to distort his reality by allowing Will's success to get the better of him. He knows deep inside he is more intelligent than Will; that is the objective reality without question. But any time Will might have the upper hand in anything related to academics, he gets bent out of shape and jealous, feeling the need to do anything to feel superior again. Those are two very different things. He has done this several times throughout the show, like cheating by copying off Will's test simply because Will outscored him in the PSAT. He did NOT need to cheat, we all know that. I don’t understand why Carlton lied to his family about getting a full scholarship. They definitely would have found out sooner or later. That’s not exactly something you can hide or fake
I once heard a story about a young man telling his parents he was teacher in oder to not disappoint them. He lied about this studies and made up stories about his 'job' as a teacher for years. In the end it came out that he made a living by robberies and never set foot into a college/university.
@@MrBell-iq3sm Yeah but in this episode, Carlton was still a minor. They would still have to help him move his life all the way across the country from California to New Jersey. They would definitely find out sooner rather than later that he never really got accepted.
That’s why they say ALWAYS be yourself. Never try to duplicate a personality you don’t have because you won’t keep it up forever and people will notice is right away.
Poor guy ! I always feel pity for him when I view this scene. It reminds me of Paris Geller in "Gilmore Girls", she had crashed herself as well. Both Terminator (T-1000) and Carlton have a thing in common: they both frightened this guy (remember the "come with me if you wanna live" scene in Terminator 2 - the actor who played the role of Princeton interviewer in this scene is the same one from that scene in Terminator 2)
Princeton's principal also played the boss of the girl who married Charlie Marno in Tales From the Crypt. Yes, I know I'm the only one who knows that..
This scene made me so angry. Carlton would have aced this interview without question, but he let his perception of what he thought would get him in distort his mind. Will's consideration was a rare exception, it only occurred because of one action which earned the respect of the recruiter, who learned more about him and came to like him as a person. Carlton's academic achievements would have been more than enough, but he felt that if Will got in, then there was no other way but to act like something he wasn't.
Carlton really missed the point of what Will said about being yourself. That’s literally all he had to do but his jealousy of Will always got the best of him in times like these
I havent seen this episode but dang, the comments revealed something bad about Carlton. Not to mention when he got desperate, he thought of every low thing like selling his sister, bribing and even death threat.

Its so weird that the assertive, strong Carlton from season 1 who stood up to Janet on the grounds of principle sunk to this...
Women are one thing, Princeton is another (especially in the Banks household)
moral of the story... BE YOURSELF!!!
It's been 9 years since the last! Well thank you for finishing it XD
He could have just left it there after being rejected, but he had to dig himself deeper. 🤦♀️
Carlton could've been accepted if he didn't let his jealousy get to him.
That’s right. Beware of envy!!
yeah dont be jealous of someone else
RIP EARL BOEN AND JAMES AVERY ❤❤❤❤
That’s why they say ALWAYS be yourself. Never try to duplicate a personality you don’t have because you won’t keep it up forever and people will notice is right away.
Poor guy ! I always feel pity for him when I view this scene. It reminds me of Paris Geller in "Gilmore Girls", she had crashed herself as well. This is what happens when you put too much pressure on someone. Working a whole lifetime to achieve something and to be crushed because you got judged on a 5 minute impression, and then facing the reality that your lifetime goal has now turned into a delusion... Man, what kind of world do we live in ! :-(
If he had have just been himself and mentioned that he wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps he would’ve been accepted right away seeing as his father is a legend at Princeton.
You know this is a sitcom right? Lol its not meant to be taken seriously its just a hilarious scene.
the part about the 5 minute impression so true...you barely can really a judge a person's entire worth from that.
@@kendallrivers1119 the show dealt with serious themes and was daring. One can many life lessons from it...even though it's a TV show its still rooted in reality for the most part.
Hmmm... i don't feel any pity for carlton, i just feel a lot of cringe for his foolishness and inmaturity
LOL at 1:55 I like how Carlton just knocks everything off the desk.
His Master Plan. Lol
He made that shit worst with all that🤣🤣
It worked in Tommy Boy…oh wait.
@@shadowknight1121I gotta go to the bathroom!

0:39 Rap master is my name ask me again and I'll tell you the same (beat box) 0:48 Didn't mean to Diss you can I get you a tissue (beat box). 😂😂😂😂
So funny but he good on the beat box LMAO
Life lesson guys… ALWAYS be yourself. You’re ENOUGH!
That look the interviewer gives to the camera after seeing Carlton is effing priceless.
"Carlton...please tell me you didn't threaten to kill the man from Princeton."
Carlton didn't have to Vogue that hard.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Both Terminator (T-1000) and Carlton have a thing in common: they both frightened this guy (remember the "come with me if you wanna live" scene in Terminator 2 - the actor who played the role of Princeton interviewer in this scene is the same one from that scene in Terminator 2)
His name is Earl Boen, he played Dr. Silberman in Terminator 1 and 2.
Glad to see some fans got that reference 😎
#ICouldBeBack?
He was in the first three Terminators.
the T-1000 was played by Robert Patrick
@@agentzurg3592 Indeed. I think the OP meant to refer to the OG Arnie Terminator, which is actually a T-800.
Hard to believe this episode aired 30 years ago!
RIP Earl Boen
THE RETURN OF C-NOTE
Princeton's principal also played the boss of the girl who married Charlie Marno in Tales From the Crypt. Yes, I know I'm the only one who knows that..
Poor Carlton! Very talented man😂😂😂😂😂
poor? hardly...he's a spoiled brat
Carlton: Look Ed! You seem like a calm and reasonable person!
Are you a calm and reasonable person
this is why I stay true to myself people can recognize fakes
Looks like Carlton is taking it to far
This is how I mess up interviews
0:39 🎶Rap master is my name! Ask me again and I’ll tell you the same!🎶
*”PFFT A PFFT PFFFT!”* 💦💦🤣🤣
Rap Master C- Carlton Banks
Grand Master B - Bud Bundy
90s were awesome
This scene made me so angry. Carlton would have aced this interview without question, but he let his perception of what he thought would get him in distort his mind. Will's consideration was a rare exception, it only occurred because of one action which earned the respect of the recruiter, who learned more about him and came to like him as a person. Carlton's academic achievements would have been more than enough, but he felt that if Will got in, then there was no other way but to act like something he wasn't.
Carlton really missed the point of what Will said about being yourself. That’s literally all he had to do but his jealousy of Will always got the best of him in times like these
2:49 ever since I saw this episode as a kid I've asked questions like this lol
Carlton and Will in this ep were like Cain and Abel. If this wasn't a comedy show, C would've hammered Will on spot xD
Ha ha carlton went ham on them
Unfortunately at this Time. Princeton doesn't accept the clinically insane, Next 1:26
Unfortunately at this Time. Princeton doesn't accept ham 😂
Carlton???? Rap Master C !!!!!
And to think Will didn't care about Princeton but he was just being himself.
RapMasterC sounds like an xbox gamer tag.
0:11 I lost it already 🤣
I havent seen this episode but dang, the comments revealed something bad about Carlton.
Not to mention when he got desperate, he thought of every low thing like selling his sister, bribing and even death threat.
This the perfect example of being true to your self
-T-1000: "Look, Silverman! You seem like an intelligent human. A human who knows what is good for himself. Allowing me to locate John Connor would be very good to spare your irrelevant life. Because Skynet has more T-1000 models like me. T-1000's, Terminators made of liquid metal and no human emotions. 10-4?!
Dr. Silberman: "correct me if I'm wrong but.. was that a death threat? Mmm?"
@@californiaman4000 T-800: "Not anymore."
**Shoots shotgun**
Thanks for posting this lol.
You're very welcome!
This is really dark. If Carlton had a weapon, he would've used it.
Why did the man from Princeton seem more happy about the death threat than anything else in the interview.
Man must really hate his life
He's most likely being sarcastic
I got this episode where Carlton Banks finally flipped his lid completely losing it
Mr banks are you in some sort of medication 💊😳
this scene made me lmao lol
Let's get one thing straight, your sister Hillary is drop dead beautiful
True, but she's like totally air headed. like ok?. lol
That's why Carlton offered her because she most likely would've done anything if told to do it.
Sorry C-Note
U just got rejected
what a strange case of reversing roles
Your even stranger than I thought 🤣
well that prove the cube was a set up, will solved it and next with carlton is mix up again.
HILARIOUS
2:31
When you are not original
2:32 A clear lesson of despite passion you should think before you speak. Don't make threats unless you are in control of the conversation and can back it up and get away with it unscathed.
To quote, "he's Carlton Banks the son of the Honorable Judge Banks. You have to go a thousand miles to meet someone who don't know you're name. So, don't come down here with your anger, trying to prove something to yourself."
Batman Begins
All Carlton had to do was be himself and he would've been on his way.
All Carlton Banks had to do was be himself during the interview for the Princeton University scholarship.
Carlton has the book and academic smarts but lack the charisma and street smarts that Will have.
Both Will and Carlton were Princeton material but for totally different reasons, that's okay. Carlton just had to be himself in the interview, he surely fucked it up.
"Didn't mean to diss you, can I get you a tissue "
You can't be... Who you're not...
No more than David could wear Saul's armor.
Carlton really messed this up...all he had to do was be HIMSELF. He had the grades and the potential. But he was too jealous of WILL, and that distracted him. That's what I didn't like about Carlton. He was smart, but had a jealous streak sometimes.
Wow just...how do you fuck that up so badly?
People can tell when youre being yourself and/or putting on airs.
Your name is not “Rap Master C.” It’s C Note, damn it!
More hair on their back abd mozarella on their breath.

Capesh.
This was really hard to watch.
Carloton Princeton is the center piece of my life master plan and gives him literally his master plan paper, his master plan right after losing my virginity” lol when the guy read that omg Carloton can be funny when he’s serious
Mr Carlton Banks yo wus up lol😂😂😂😂
Rap Master C, ask me again and i'll tell you the same 😂😂😂😂
And boys and girls and thats why being a followers leads to nowhere be yourself.
Carlton from the struggle in this one my figureation podometor
These type of ppl sir are iq test equivalent to John doe the woman I am
Damn Carlton's smart I got a high IQ too just didn't know his strength and broke my toy
My GOSH CARLTON! Hahahahahaha! 2019 anyone ? Hahaha
Yeah
All Carlton had to do was just speak & converse normally - there was no doubt his credibility & creditentials were set in place. Moral of this do what you have to hit success for you yourself. Dont get influence from others actions that's not yours
Yo whats up. LOL 😂😂😂
Carlton realized he made a massive mistake
