Can't beat this set for the money. Replaced the stubby and added some longer flat head and I'm good to go. Mostly use m12 impact driver or cordless ratchet for screws anyway. These work well and earned their place in my cart. Snappy is too expensive. Money saved is more money to buy more tools that get the job done. I see a lot of people around me throwing money away every week. A lot of money can be saved by researching tools before you buy and becoming an informed buyer. Thanks for making videos, Chris!
Matt Wilson got an m12 fuel set for Father’s Day sale. Holy shit the m12 impact 3/8” takes off my lug nuts. Even takes them off my buddy’s pickup. They’re great..
Truer words have yet to be said about tools. And the design of these budget minded shop level drivers are a perfect place to save money. I might even pick up a set of these for my box, looks great 4 the price...
I think it’s hilarious that you stopped to show us how each screwdriver works! 😂😝. But seriously, good video. Love the reviews of icon stuff. After seeing the snap on stuff fit in the same tray, I was thinking that buying the complete icon set of screwdrivers just to get the blow molded tray to use as an organizer for your snap on screwdriver‘s is still probably cheaper than buying whatever organizer snap on sells for their screwdrivers!
I know a good tester on #2 phillips screwdrivers,a neighbor of mine.He does auto body work and my dad watched him do it to a few breaking the tips off. With the Snap On,the shank is replaced if the tip breaks instead of replacing the whole screwdriver. That 3/16 screwdriver, the tip is great on Ford oxygen sensor plug ins releasing the tab.Fits in there.
Snap-on screwdrivers feel the best in my hands but honestly I mostly use a screw gun to remove screws. Both are great screw drivers and Icon gives us a lower priced option.
Great review and thank you for the content. I can see a place for a set of ICON screwdrivers in a professionals "go bag" to use on the road because the price will not kill you, versus having an 8 piece screwdriver set from a tool truck brand. When I was in the trades in the 80's Craftsman was the starting set for all tools and if I was starting out I would invest in the ICON screwdrivers versus going with the HF's other lines. Don't get me wrong at some point I would step up my screwdriver line with a tool truck brand once I was making money and reinvest back into my tools. In my opinion ICON will not replace tool truck tools but offers another option for the professional on a budget.
genuine question, why would you need to step up to a tool truck brand? Do you feel that the ICON ones will eventually break their tip? From the video, it looks like it performed just as well.
Great comparison video! Please do me one favor and set your plate screws so they are all vertical and or horizontal in the same direction. My ocd is outta control 😂😂
I personally didn’t like the ICON screwdrivers. I bought a set a couple months back and returned them a couple days later. I did not like the way black rubber on the handles would roll the skin on my hand. I found them to be very uncomfortable. My favorite screwdrivers are my Gearwrench and Olsa Tools. Very comfortable in the hand and get the job done.
Great vid. I’d be happy to have those. I do however prefer the sunny to be as short as possible. If I need a stubby it’s cuz it’s tight. The shorter the better. Often a generic cheap stubby that’s shortest with cheap metal is preferred over name brand if they’re too long, obviously
You’re right. It’s a personal feel. But also, guys commit to a thought of what’s worth it. Snap-On has job site guys fixated on them. But I’ve found that while pretty good, they’re generally no better than other top line brands, at often, much higher cost. All truck sales cost much more because you’re paying for that guy with the truck, who also owes Snap-On a lot of money.
I have old classic black Snap On screwdrivers, a few Whia as well, but I mostly use my 30+ year old Stanley Workmaster screwdrivers. As you point out, for me at least, the handle is key. Those old Stanley units are still great today.
If the fastener is stuck enough to "need" the bolster, your likely to damage the tip, did that the other day to a new williams screwdriver. Use the impact more, at least the replacement tips are cheaper!
Nice vid the Tool Boss has done it once again found a pick, as well as the MSRP of the new Milwaukee 18 volt Hatchet Pruning, Saw $179.00 bare tool and the kit for $249.00 unknown battery size or which charger
Just wondering how they would perform on a fresh hole not 1 already pre-drilled just saying back (not too long ago) before everyone had a drill hanging off the belt or pant pocket starting screws & finishing em by hand was never that big a chore specially now everything is Philips & drywall screws when used to use #8 & #10 pan's for most jobs around the house larger curtain rods & the quick pad lock latch etc where a drywall would just snap?
Looked for this at harbor freight, wasn't in stock. Torn between this, the tekton high torque, n just a used snap on set. So far like the icon look but still liking the high torque
The Craftsman professional red and black with the gold letters is the best and the they are selling on eBay for 800$ original price 80$ try to sell them icon online 😂 u might get half and snap on never resale for more than original price the Craftsman are so good snap on copyd Craftsman screwdriver
IMHO , the largest screw drivers should almost always be demo screw drivers. But maybe others have more reason for the large screw driver. Regardless, anyone else have too many screw drivers, rarely use any of em, and still watch tool reviews on em.
Preferring American made tools but not needing professional quality the classic WF made ( some made by Pratt Reed) Craftsman Acetate handle screwdrivers were my go to because I do like acetate handles, but I was never really satisfied with the handle sizes and earlier this year I made the switch to some NOS Stanley 100 plus ( made before that shitty weird Phillip's tip was introduced) and some Pratt Reed screwdrivers. I went with the classic Acetate essentials series which have a proper handle size and comfortable profile, but P-R does have their more professional series with a modern mechanics style handle that would be a good alternative to these imported Icons if COO matters to you.
I'll stick with snap on. Personally I would rather put that 50 towards snap on ones or matco, I bought a really new looking red 8 piece set on ebay for barely over 100, I mean what's 50 more. Definitely worth it. I do own quite a few hf tools and they are good, but there are just certain things I'd rather buy nice. Such as a good ratchet, screwdrivers, pry bars, picks, ball peen hammer. I would rather buy them from the truck. Have hf air impacts, Milwaukee electric impact and ratchet blahs blah, hf sockets, pliers. But at least one soild ratchet like matco locking flex head and the other stuff I mentioned is worth it. Buy it once and it's yours for life.
@@elcomandante9299 😂 $500 on screwdrivers. You are right many guys even pros go broke with snap on. Just don’t buy 20 snap on ratchets. Not every socket has to be snap on, that’s how you go broke. Owning a few snap on tools are 100% worth the money. If you think they are that expensive you may not be getting paid enough. I work trucker hours and if I want it I buy simple as that. If you like harbor freight than that’s cool, they have okay tools too that do the same job. But snap on is definitely more quality. Also, the hand tools are made in the USA baby! 🇺🇸
Do not buy the icon 1/4 inch sockets the chrome flakes on the tip I’ve replaced 2 sets within the first month and I do not use impacts just common hand ratcheting
I buy vintage tools, restore them to working condition. Some much better than most new sets. I know not much good for the suppliers who want more customers and want us to buy a new set every couple years, but hey, I like old tools.
@@ClientGraphics Maybe I should clarify. I prefer Old hand tools with real old metal, but I do look and try new tools and have a lot of modern tools as well (was why I was watching the video). All of my power tools are new (safety) and I look at new hand tools for comfort reasons. I have small hands so a lot of modern screwdrivers do not fit, get 75 year screw drivers and the handles fit much better. That and what better way is there to spend your time but by using tools to repair other tools, so much more satisfaction than cutting open boxes. Have fun in those sheds people. Stay Safe.
It’s a drawback that I can’t buy picks and additional screen drivers. Makes no sense. I can still buy this screw driver set and then buy picks and other screw drivers from other brands
Not if you get used to a handle and don't want to have a bunch of random different handle shapes, or of course just want a complete matching set. Now I know people who prefer different grips for different drivers and have sets made up of multiple brands.
Some people have OCD about brands and colors. Other people just want to buy a complete set from precision screwdrivers, torx and have longer p1 or p2 or 3/16 all in the same brand. While it will save some people money they still may need those longer sizes and have to consider buying them elsewhere. The Doyle has a nice longer 3/16 but not a longer p1 or p2.
