When I first started making jewelry, I bought all the little pliers at Michaels. They were so tiny and feminine. I invested in better quality ones a few years later, but until then, I didn't know what quality felt like. Of course, now I am totally attached to my Wubbers (mid price point, but so good) and Lindstroms.

Wubbers and Lindstroms, yay. 😀 Once you get the good stuff, you can never go back!

Enjoyed the review of the tools and beads! Definitely important to weigh both price and quality and make the best decision based on personal situation, need, and what you're able to afford. Thanks again for sharing!

Hi Sandy, thanks for the review. I used inexpensive tools like these before upgrading to BeadSmith ones. The pliers may eventually rust as inexpensive ones are usually made of carbon steel, not stainless steel. I didn't know that, I thought all pliers would be made of stainless steel, so I was shocked when I discovered the rust! I also had the issue of the hand grip / handle sleeve slipping off after awhile. It didn't slip off completely, but it would slide around on the handle like how a loose sock moves around your foot in your shoe, and I needed to keep jigging it back into place. As you said, it's good for a beginner who wants to try out the craft and isn't sure whether to invest a lot in it yet, but once I bought better tools I could never go back :)

I like my costume jewelry to be fun and I suppose that's why I like to make it myself. Opportunity to use unusual combination of things. I think the tool set you have is a good idea. We rent cabins now and then and I do like taking projects with me. I might look into that set. Thank you for posting!

I'm bringing the set with me on a trip to visit my mom. That way I can do any repairs to all the jewelry I've sent her over the years. :-D

The tools look nifty but those beads are a bit meh. I have a few Trollbeads (which I love) but when somebody gave me cheap ones to add, it dragged the whole bracelet down. So yeah... the tools are definitely the best thing in your haul. xx

I agree, Val. Those beads would make an ok bracelet on their own, but I wouldn't combine them in with my nice Pandora beads!

Hi Sandy, thank you for sharing these! I haven’t done a whole lot with jewelry making but I was curious to know if there was anything that you could use to coat the beads with (only the metal part, not the rhinestones) that would seal them to prevent tarnishing? Thank you in advance! 💜

Sharon, with beads this inexpensive I don't think I'd bother. They aren't real silver, but a silver colored coating over base metal, so they aren't really going to tarnish. What happens most often with beads like this is that the coating wears off, leaving the base metal (often copper) showing.

Personally I really do not like the way cheap plated materials get tarnished so quickly; the red copper shining through and the black oxidation that you can not remove without permanently damaging the silver plated layer which will make the red copper show also.

Jolande Nelissen-van der Spek Flash plating. 😝 Always a gamble. On the other hand, nice assortment, nice pouch, affordable...

Hi Patricia, valid arguments in favour of plated materials!
