If they wanted to be "more modern", just have Gal Gadot be Snow White. If people argue "but she's too oldddddddd", then just have the moral of the movie be "you can still find your prince. Also by listening to Dinklage and removing the dwarfs, they're basically telling those with height impairment that they aren't even good enough for roles MADE SPECIFICALLY TO INCLUDE THEM. It's extremely sad that people don't see the point of the story of Snow White. It's not about a princess needing saving or physical beauty, but the beauty of someone's heart. Snow White is the fairest of them all because she has a pure and genuine kind heart, a inner beauty that surpassed even the physical attractiveness of the queen. The queen is jealous because she believes the mirror is talking about Snow White's physical appearance and tries to kill her, turning her soul from a petty rotten is into something disgusted and wicked. And at the end of the story the queen disguises herself as an old ugly lady, showing what she truly is on the inside. However Snow White is a gentle kind soul who gets rewarded for her genuine nature, with the huntsman not hunting her, the dwarves allowing her to live with them, and finding someone who would save her and her time of need. That's the whole point of the story, be a nice person and you get rewarded be a bad person and you're just a bitch.
I agree with you, you're 100% correct. But, honestly, I don't think that is Disney's vision for the movie. According to some of the plot revealed, it might end up being the very opposite. We will see. But here is the ironic thing. If it were all about having a pure heart, looks wouldn't matter, and yet. It mattered to them a lot, just as much as it matter to their other live action remakes.

i remember a german version of snow white a few years ago in which snow white is just a white girl but the main focus was on the dwarves and they casted exclusively german comedians for the roles which resulted in hilarious jokes and overall just a fun experience instead of some kind of "deeper" message

I grew up on thick fairy tale books and classical Disney animated movies (that includes Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) and I love them as they are. I'm not bothered by the lack of representation because such superficial and shallow concept is unknown to me. It breaks my heart to see my childhood fairy tales and movies get twisted into something UNRECOGNISABLE.

I find myself saying this a lot, but growing up as a gamer, some of my favorite characters included a two-tailed fox that can fly, a frog-tongued dinosaur that could be ridden like a horse, a female "cobrasaurus" with mind-screw powers, and a human/summon beast hybrid woman, among others. The idea that the medium suddenly "needed" representation this past decade is something I never understood. If people seriously can't enjoy something because the characters aren't the same skin color and (made up) gender as them (let alone the same species), then they're just horribly lacking in any sort of imagination and should probably just stay away from things that will just make them miserable, rather than forcibly making it miserable for everyone else as well.
I can't wait for the live-action Black Cauldron. The Cauldron of Color is gonna be lit. I heard they cast Dinklage as Hen Wen, Eliot Page as Taran, Laverne Cox as the princess, and Katt Williams as Gurgi.
If Snow White eats the apple and falls into a deep sleep, how does she wake up if the prince doesn't rescue her with true love's kiss? The poisoned apple is kind of central to the story. I guess it could end with Snow White beating the evil queen to death with a sack of apples instead. Maybe the prince holds the sack for her and that's why he's needed in the movie. My favorite dwarf is the tall one because he identifies as a dwarf and so all of us can.
The plot of Snow White and Seven Dwarfs is about Snow White trying to get away from a jealous Queen and met the Dwarfs she befriended and gain their trust. And in turn they became her trusted companions and chased after Queen's old hag butt to give her the pounding if the boulder didn't rock her over.
The Prince never "saved" Snow White. She survived by fate/happenstance. First the Queens poison failed to kill her properly, then the dwarves preserved her body instead or burying her, then the Prince just felt sorry for such a pretty young girl dying and kissed her out of sadness, he never thought she would wake up or am I remembering the story wrong?
The pair were already flirting at the beginning of the film, when she was in rags and treated like a maid. I would call it a good-bye kiss. To Disney's credit, even back then they knew the value in romantic set ups. We even see it in Sleeping Beauty, with the prince and Aurora meeting in the woods, and in Cinderella the pair don't simply dance, they have have an intimate stroll, getting to know each other.
In the original Sleeping Beauty story, the prince not only kisses her, he outright sexes her up. These do nothing to waken her. Yet he is still so entranced that he has her put in a glass coffin and taken to his castle. ON THE WAY, someone accidentally drops the coffin and the piece of apple falls out of her throat. Oops! You'd think the moderns would like this because the prince is only indirectly responsible... it's more of an accident.
"It´s no longer 1937" Usually when someone says that Disney is making a modern day fairytale, my mind goes to 2007´s Enchanted, which was exactly that and was a really charming movie, but sadly is way easier to pull on people nostalgia than actually trying good writting.

I'm an animator, I grew up watching Disney with my dream to be a Disney animator after seeing things like Beauty and the Beast, lion king and Notre Dame. Inspired by the beautiful moving art people could make, by human hands, with pen, paper, ink, paint and make a world come to life. I don't like Snow White, it's a pretty simple and boring movie, but it's huge historically in the realm of animation and it's a gorgeous movie to look at. Everything I said is just the opposite of what Disney is these days, it's always been evil corporate bullshit but they atleast have artists the room to create beautiful high production art. I can't say anything similar or positive about today's animation scene, animations been in the shitter,not able to progress or contribute for a decade an d a half now. Not until spider verse has 3D CG animation even touched on the expressive work of 2D, and it only happened when, guess what.... They started using 2D animation techniques developed for over a century... CG animation CAN be beautiful, it was just stick under expectations of what people thought they wanted and wouldn't evolve. We don't even get that anymore... Now we get these live action or... pseudo live avtion movies that are the opposite of what put Disney on the map in the first place, that are leeching off the success of 30-40 yea told animations because Disney has no fucking back bone anymore and all there talent, the ones who grew up studying animation, who knew how to weave their life experience into their work, who studied and worked diligently to get where they were... Gone chasing the ghost of woke activism in the most slimy corporate way possible, giving jobs to privileged art college students who could afford their way through school that taught them bullshit. Disney and all the whiney spineless TikTok babys are to blame for my dreams dying. Now I'm looking into making a comic, because that's all i can do with my talent. I remember in 2012 where they had those 2 different snow white films premiering at the same time. One of them had an interpretation of the dwarves as outcasts ousted from their homes by the evil queen for looking different. They were literally refered to as "undesirables." That's an interesting commentary on not just modern day social issues, but also an allegory for the film industry and how actors that don't meet beauty standards are treated as gimmicks, forever type casted to bit parts and abandoned when no longer deemed useful. This snow white threw that opportunity away, ironically proving the previous film's message correct.

It's extremely sad that people don't see the point of the story of Snow White. It's not about a princess needing saving or physical beauty, but the beauty of someone's heart. Snow White is the fairest of them all because she has a pure and genuine kind heart, a inner beauty that surpassed even the physical attractiveness of the queen. The queen is jealous because she believes the mirror is talking about Snow White's physical appearance and tries to kill her, turning her soul from a petty rotten is into something disgusted and wicked. And at the end of the story the queen disguises herself as an old ugly lady, showing what she truly is on the inside. However Snow White is a gentle kind soul who gets rewarded for her genuine nature, with the huntsman not hunting her, the dwarves allowing her to live with them, and finding someone who would save her and her time of need. That's the whole point of the story, be a nice person and you get rewarded be a bad person and you're just a bitch.
I agree with you, you're 100% correct. But, honestly, I don't think that is Disney's vision for the movie. According to some of the plot revealed, it might end up being the very opposite. We will see. But here is the ironic thing. If it were all about having a pure heart, looks wouldn't matter, and yet. It mattered to them a lot, just as much as it matter to their other live action remakes.

I grew up on thick fairy tale books and classical Disney animated movies (that includes Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) and I love them as they are. I'm not bothered by the lack of representation because such superficial and shallow concept is unknown to me. It breaks my heart to see my childhood fairy tales and movies get twisted into something UNRECOGNISABLE.
The good news is that these fairy tales are public domain. Anyone can just come over, make a movie based on one and eat Disney's lunch.

For years they've been race swapping characters because they said it was impossible for little kids to relate to the character unless the characters are the same color as them.
They made the little mermaid black, so that black little girls could relate to her. The problem is the actress said she's always loved The Little Mermaid and would pretend to be her all the time. In other words, she related to the character. According to Disney's excuse for race swapping, that's supposed to be impossible.
The Snow White actress is Hispanic and pretty much did the same thing. She posed pictures of herself dressed as Disney Princesses as a child. In other words she related to the character even though Disney says that's impossible because they aren't the same skin color.
That's not even mentioning the fact that these stories are of Danish and German origin. The actors cast should all be of Danish and German heritage because the left complains whenever an actor is cast in a role and they are not exactly the ethnicity and nationality as the character. Unless of course it's a white character that was changed to anything else. Then it doesn't matter.
I find myself saying this a lot, but growing up as a gamer, some of my favorite characters included a two-tailed fox that can fly, a frog-tongued dinosaur that could be ridden like a horse, a female "cobrasaurus" with mind-screw powers, and a human/summon beast hybrid woman, among others. The idea that the medium suddenly "needed" representation this past decade is something I never understood. If people seriously can't enjoy something because the characters aren't the same skin color and (made up) gender as them (let alone the same species), then they're just horribly lacking in any sort of imagination and should probably just stay away from things that will just make them miserable, rather than forcibly making it miserable for everyone else as well.

If Snow White eats the apple and falls into a deep sleep, how does she wake up if the prince doesn't rescue her with true love's kiss? The poisoned apple is kind of central to the story. I guess it could end with Snow White beating the evil queen to death with a sack of apples instead. Maybe the prince holds the sack for her and that's why he's needed in the movie. My favorite dwarf is the tall one because he identifies as a dwarf and so all of us can.
If the prince holds the apples, he's obligated to drop them and go, "Durr hurr, oops!"

The plot of Snow White and Seven Dwarfs is about Snow White trying to get away from a jealous Queen and met the Dwarfs she befriended and gain their trust.
And in turn they became her trusted companions and chased after Queen's old hag butt to give her the pounding if the boulder didn't rock her over.
The Prince never "saved" Snow White. She survived by fate/happenstance. First the Queens poison failed to kill her properly, then the dwarves preserved her body instead or burying her, then the Prince just felt sorry for such a pretty young girl dying and kissed her out of sadness, he never thought she would wake up or am I remembering the story wrong?
The pair were already flirting at the beginning of the film, when she was in rags and treated like a maid. I would call it a good-bye kiss. To Disney's credit, even back then they knew the value in romantic set ups. We even see it in Sleeping Beauty, with the prince and Aurora meeting in the woods, and in Cinderella the pair don't simply dance, they have have an intimate stroll, getting to know each other.
In the original Sleeping Beauty story, the prince not only kisses her, he outright sexes her up. These do nothing to waken her. Yet he is still so entranced that he has her put in a glass coffin and taken to his castle. ON THE WAY, someone accidentally drops the coffin and the piece of apple falls out of her throat. Oops! You'd think the moderns would like this because the prince is only indirectly responsible... it's more of an accident.

The original Snow White is perfect as is. Heck I recently rewatched it, the last time I watched it was as a kid, and I never noticed her writing Grumpy's name on the pie she was making before the disguised Evil Queen visits. I actually liked that small detail so much ;-;

Hilarious mocumentary with many actors playing themselves (and mocking themselves!), but Warwick runs a Actor's Agency specifically for Dwarfs but tries to take all the good roles for himself! Great HBO series that deserved another season or two!

I'm an animator, I grew up watching Disney with my dream to be a Disney animator after seeing things like Beauty and the Beast, lion king and Notre Dame. Inspired by the beautiful moving art people could make, by human hands, with pen, paper, ink, paint and make a world come to life.
I don't like Snow White, it's a pretty simple and boring movie, but it's huge historically in the realm of animation and it's a gorgeous movie to look at.
Everything I said is just the opposite of what Disney is these days, it's always been evil corporate bullshit but they atleast have artists the room to create beautiful high production art.
I can't say anything similar or positive about today's animation scene, animations been in the shitter,not able to progress or contribute for a decade an d a half now. Not until spider verse has 3D CG animation even touched on the expressive work of 2D, and it only happened when, guess what.... They started using 2D animation techniques developed for over a century...
CG animation CAN be beautiful, it was just stick under expectations of what people thought they wanted and wouldn't evolve.
We don't even get that anymore... Now we get these live action or... pseudo live avtion movies that are the opposite of what put Disney on the map in the first place, that are leeching off the success of 30-40 yea told animations because Disney has no fucking back bone anymore and all there talent, the ones who grew up studying animation, who knew how to weave their life experience into their work, who studied and worked diligently to get where they were... Gone chasing the ghost of woke activism in the most slimy corporate way possible, giving jobs to privileged art college students who could afford their way through school that taught them bullshit.

I remember in 2012 where they had those 2 different snow white films premiering at the same time. One of them had an interpretation of the dwarves as outcasts ousted from their homes by the evil queen for looking different. They were literally refered to as "undesirables." That's an interesting commentary on not just modern day social issues, but also an allegory for the film industry and how actors that don't meet beauty standards are treated as gimmicks, forever type casted to bit parts and abandoned when no longer deemed useful. This snow white threw that opportunity away, ironically proving the previous film's message correct.
Yeah i remember one of them being snow white and the huntsman and i thought that was pretty good recreation of the original story focusing on the relationship with the huntsman instead. Don't know what the other one was
